this is the first time i've seen this camera angle. it gives a great sense of the pace of these cars. 190mph into a wall and lives to tell about it. I wish kubica a speedy recovery (from his recent rally crash)
@DuRiTo09 When coming into the turn with huge speed - close to 290 km/h- he was on the outside (outside line into the corner not track) and didn't had enough space between another car and grass. He didn't managed to slow down and get behind it in time and his front wing was damaged in contact. Then this very wing got under his front wheel(s) - like if loss of the FW in high speed corner wasn't enough to be thrown outside of the track - and when he got on the grass a little bump send him flying
One thing I notice from this video is how lucky Kubica was not to fly over the barrier he hit, into the incoming traffic on the other side of the hairpin. Now that surely would have ended worse!
@jimmyass its just the way he made contact with the wall. from where i was sitting it the way he hit the wall reminded me of senna's crash. when it first happend i though kubica was dead, the force of the impact and the way he lay lifeless. but after a few seconds he started to move.
Wow, that's a great camera angle. You can clearly see how lucky it was that he didn't somehow shoot over the barrier and hit the cars coming out of the hairpin.
Kubica is so very lucky, but, and i know people on here will slaughter me for saying this, but max mosley is one of the most unappreciated people within the F1 world, without the efforts of max and that tragic, dark weekend in imola, formula one would of lost one of the most talented drivers of this generation in montreal, max was pushing for huge changes regarding the safety, or lack of, in F1 even before the death of ayrton and roland, whose deaths were, sadly, the justifaction of his views
hitting the first wall actually made it worst cos it pitched the car into a sharper angle for the second wall if u watch from the other views, the crash wouldnt hav been as bad if it never hit the first part
We ALL know just how fortunate Robert was being able to walk away from that horrendous crash, it so easily could've been much, much worse. Sorry for putting a downer on things but it would be appropiate to remember the drivers that lost their lives, but not in vain, so that advances could be made in safety in F1so that todays drivers have a strong chance of surviving big accidents, but by no means is it totally safe, after all it is still an open cockpit and the driver's head is very exposed.
I watched the whole race again this morning. The marshalls were sitting in camping chairs right by where Kubica had his accident. The chairs were in front of the wall, and they only moved them away when Scott Speed broke down and needed his car moving.
this is one of the best videos to show how fast the impact really was, that marshall was so lucky as well not to get hit by debris. In 08 they put up fences.
@jimmyass They also closed off that wall completely, as you can see there, he hit the part where it opens first and then caught some air, hitting the next part.
@petrolhead Indeed thank goodness for Hans but I think Roland's crash was much more of an acute angle as he'd lost part of his front wing. Check my videos to see. This is still horrific and I'm so glad he survived. Thank you uploading this plokijy09 what an amazing angle!! Those Marshall's had a big time wake up call with leaning over the wall like that. Thank goodness all was ok and F1 is safer than it's ever been, let's envisage another great year of fast but safe racing :-)
saw this live, at the first moment i didnt knew what to think, i wasnt sure he had survived.
this angle rly shows how fucking fast he was when he hitted that wall. im pretty sure when would had hit that first little concrete wall on the right side, where he destroyed his right front tyre, he wouldnt have survided. omg he was flying at that moment. maybe he would have fly over that other wall where he finally crashed. lucky kubica
Camera angles like this show the true speed of f1.
But when you watch it on tv It doesn't look as fast :( They make the cars look as slow as possible so they people can see the damn adverts on the cars :S
hopefully next years Renault will be much better than this years, and since Renault probably gave up early on this years car they surely focused on building a good car for 2010
that's what Honda did for 2009, but instead sold the team to Brawn, and look what happened...
This could so easily have been fatal, especially when you look at what happened to Massa in Hungary. Kubica was lucky on so many counts... the fact he didn't cross the wall, the speed of the impact and the rolls, and from another angle he nearly gets hit in the head by his own wheel a few seconds after it had come off. The man owes his life to the FIA's safety changes, and the drivers who died in much lighter incidents decades before.
I know this is kind of shitty to say but I mean it. I think Senna would be proud to know that because of his death F1 made a serious commitment to safety... It's because of him that Kubica lived and helmets are strong enough to save Massa's eye from that spring.
Not shitty at all mate, it's a massive tragedy that Senna and Ratzenberger died that weekend, but they did not die in vain. Their deaths were a fillip for the safety improvements we have nowadays.
I think his car hitting the small white wall at the bottom is what saved his life.
That impact shifts his momentum from straight forward into a fast moving spin so he "bounces" off the bigger white wall. If he was to hit the big wall dead on he might not have spun off and taking all impact force on his body.
Never saw this angle... Montreal circuit is unforgiving, the railings are SO close, kinda like Monaco... Hey, we got our F1 grand prix back !! And Nascar this weekend !!
imagine if a regular car hit that wall at that speed? the body inside would be unrecognisable. its unbelievable the forces f1 cars can take, and they only weigh about 650kg with the driver inside!
i remember seeing tht live on tv i ws sure he was dead until he was sliding on his side and i saw him doing something like flexing his forearm before it slid into the armco and stopped.
