  • classic lp , i miss the vinyl i used to own

  • @NINJATRONdnb Yeah, awesome cover, when you open it up & see what's Beyond The Gates! They made the cover because of the title. Cause you can unfold it & actually make different covers,if you bend it different. I don't know if it was only the 1st & 2nd editions.Cause I've also seen the cover, just as you see it here.I have the 1st edition were you open in the middle (The Gate) and all the other sides can be opened too. I HOPE you have the original cover.Never made before or after by anyone \m/

  • @NorthernPanzer666 I had the vary first one that unfolds .

  • @NorthernPanzer666 The Original . ( fold out )

  • jeff is a total bad ass!. handicapped dont mean shit .. he is a killer singer!!!

  • I saw Jeff Becerra with Sadistic Intent backing him up as Possessed about 2 years ago, Jeff was half drunk and everybody was moshing around him and he was enjoying it. Although he's paralyzed he's still a hell of a singer.

  • JeffersonDinedAlone there is still time, cryptic warning. I suppose still time to go to hell. Already been, revisit now and again.

  • is that chuck shuldiner or however you spell his name? sounds like him

  • @TheAcbdef123 no, that's jeff becerra

  • call me crazy but the vocals kinda sound like a more heavy version of motorhead, im crazy right?

  • @kelter1234 no, i agree with you, in an interview jeff said he was a big fan of motorhead so he may have been attempting to sound like lemmy, who knows?

  • Wow, my first listen and i can really hear the venom influence. Nice

  • @MrPlasterchrist i know hell sounds like venom

  • I hear here just more heavier thrash metal... not death...

  • @TheCore1994 You need to put it perspective, that's how death metal started, then most bands took the template for the future from Death themselves.

  • i got this picture in the background of my ps3

  • holy shit, KIds this is real fucking death METAL!!

  • what a bad ass break lucifer i pray to the alter

  • both releases were great, but i dig the distinct guitar sound in gates. i had never heard that tuning before and still have not in 2011.

  • This Is A Good Album. The Only Bad Thing About This, Is That They Lack Speed.

  • @Suicidalfamily It still has its fast parts. I play in a band thats sort of a cross between thrash and nwobhm and most of our stuff is pretty fast but to be honest after doing two or three real fast songs in a row I like to throw some slower songs in the mix. Every song doesn't need to be blndingly fast to be good although I understand your preference of seven churches

  • Beyond The Gates > Seven Churches

  • @TheFuneralMist And You Can Suck My Dick, Buddy.

  • @Suicidalfamily Let me guess, your one of those fanboys who thinks Seven Churches is the best album ever? Well I got news for you, this album is superior in every aspect

  • @TheFuneralMist Beyond The Gates Is Cool, But Seven Churches Is Faster, Heavier, And Has Real Classics, Even The Eyes of Horror EP Is Better Than Beyond The Gates.

  • @TheFuneralMist Subjective opinions are subjective. Just because you like this album over the "most listened commercial classic that's seven churches" doesn't make you truer nor more underground, much less a "connoisseur" of Possessed and of Death Metal.

  • By the beard and blood of the goat-Satan is pleased!

  • cool

  • Larry LaLonde from PRIMUS on guitar

  • Really digging the music, not so much the content

  • Hail Possessed and Satan

  • @NecroSoldier18 satan worships possessed bet hes got all their albums

  • @algosiniestro12345 all two of them?

  • beyond the gates is straight up thrash metal not death bro.

  • Just Bought A Possessed Beyond The Gates T Shirt On Ebay For $24 So Fuckin Excited!!!!

  • possessed is more death metal then thrash which is why they are the creators of the genre

  • Possessed like Venom help create Death Metal but their really Thrash not Death

  • This is closer to death metal, than the actual song "Death Metal" :D

  • Heaviest Death Metal Album!!!!

  • cool number - to me the vocal sound really much like a mix between Lemmy (motorhead) and the singer from Accept almost a clone :)

  • @cyberspace123 In wich part of this song his vocal sounds like Udo(Accept) in your oppinion?

  • all i have to say is possessed was before slayer

  • @mmichaelm012 ? slayer was there before possessed

  • @mmichaelm012 No, Slayer was formed first in 1981; Possessed formed in 1983.

  • all i have to say is possessed was before slayer

  • who woulda thought primus would come of this?

  • This was a very good album (I still have the casette!) - really atmospheric - but the guitar sound was a bit tinny and annoying. Can you imagine these riffs with really good guitar sound?! It would be even more betterer

  • I bow to the Alter!

  • WOW!!! It's better than 7 Churches!!

  • Sounds like Motorhead playing death metal

  • @Ajt8000 yeah, vocals sounds like lemmy singing death metal

  • I still don't remember those years, 86-88, too many drugs!

But I do remember first hearing Death in 1985 on a city bus,

I asked the guy playing the TAPE, "who is that"

    to which he replied,"It's Death",

    and I said"oh cool, I like death-metal",

and he said "no, the name of the band is death".

    I felt pretty stupid.

At that time I had already heard of Possessed and we were calling it death-metal.

Come to think of it, maybe it was 86,

oh well, those were the days!

  • seven churches is awesome but in all honesty beyond the gates is pretty shit

  • @BADSKP you are

  • Having bought Seven Churches and loving it, I asked a friend to describe this album. He said "It's Possessed's 'Ride The Lightning.'" Which I didn't get then....but after I bought it, I understood his point completely.

  • I dont think there was any definative 1st Death Metal band. I dont think Death Metal seperated from thrash until like 88 or 89. I see Possessed and Death as the bridge from thrash to death metal. Death was more death metal than Possessed tho, IMO

  • @autopsy87 dude, I agree totally with the years 1988/89 as the actual arrival of death metal to the scene, cos I had lived that myself in the '80s....

and we did call Possessed as "thrash", as well, correct. but that was already years after Seven Churches. the band themselves actually labelled themselves as "thrash metal" already at the time of Beyond the Gates (watch that UK interview here on YouTube)! but Possessed were probably called "death metal" when Seven Churches came out in 1985!!!!

  • @edwads74 Agreed. I am also one that loves this album as much as Seven Churches, the production in this album is lacking though. Anyhow, Hail Possessed!

  • riffs riffs riffs!

  • Death was the first DM band for sure

  • Yer they made the 83 demo called death by metal under the name *mantas* possessed played a role in evolving it I guess, as well as morbid angel in 86, Incorporated blast beasts instead of groove/thrash then you get cannibal corpse pretty much and obituary etc

  • @AREYOUHOUSE Wasnt Death just considered Thrash Metal in 83 xD i thought the album Seven churchs was when Death metal began.

  • @Petasucksballs91367 maybe right dude, why not give us some facts if you were around into metal in 1983, will be helpful for all of us. now, it's just Death fans say Death were the 1st, Possessed fans say Possessed were the first. I myself think that it can't be said 100%, but are mere speculations for now. sure Possessed had album out in 1985 already, but both bands had demos at approx. same time. so, give some helpful infos from your time if you were around already then, would you? thanx bro!

  • es que donde este beyond de gates que se quite el resto

    seamos honestos.

  • People totally worship Seven Churches and dismiss Beyond the Gates. Beyond the Gates is alot more sinister sounding and is on a totally different(good) level than Seven Churches. This song totally pwns.

  • i prefer Seven Churches though

anyway both album are fucking heavy

  • Agree 100%. I love Seven Churches but this almost surpasses it. I remember when it was released I was so disappointed (like the stupid 16-year old I was back then) expecting it to be SC part 2. Now I realise what they were trying to do and I love every second of it. Classic early death metal. Hail Possessed forever!

  • @edwads74

Agreed, and did you know that apparently BTG is Jeff's favorite of the three? Least that's what he told me a while back. Great guy.

  • @edwads74 Yes siree. This was their best effort. I miss the days of standard tuning....

  • @edwads74

This album is a lot more commercial than seven churches was, which might be why you like it more.

  • @megalooneyone1

Sorry, you are wrong about your assumption of why I like beyond the gates. As I stated before, It's alot more sinister sounding and different, and that's why I like it better. I don't think it's more commercial than 7 churches. In fact it sold less than seven churches. Now, 'more commercial' would be a better description for 'the eyes of horror' ep, where Satriani's influence is quite obvious. but we're not talking about that one.

  • @edwads74

Go to the wikipedia page on beyond the gates and scroll to the bottom. He admits it was an attempt to be more commercial. I didn't mean that as an insult, though. Just figured that might be why you liked it more

  • @megalooneyone1

Wikipedia referenced as a source, at best, should be approached with a fair amount of doubt and cynicism as a reliable source of information. If it is true what Jeff said(what did the mikes say? or larry?), then it was a very naive attempt at a more commercial release, as it totally convinced me, in a good way, that it was technically, lyrically, stylistically, superior to 7 churches. I love 7 churches btw. Not dissing it at all, just think BTG is the superior album.

  • Comment removed

  • @edwads74 I agree, I prefer this album over Seven Churches too, mainly because "Beyond the Gates" has better production and its very thrashy

  • Lucifer, hear me

    I pray to the altar

I hear the sounds of insanity

Master, I drink the unholy water

Save me the torment that beckons for me

That shit scared the hell out of me when it came

out, I was sure I was going to HELL!!!!!

  • @scheissdrek There is still time.

  • best song made by them imo

  • Fuckin' Cool Stuff, Eternal Hailz!

  • Awesome. One of the many underated songs on the album. Death metal awaits...beyond the gates. Hail Possessed.

  • @Chuloloc You know what, I always preferred this album over Seven Churches, I dont know why, I just really enjoy the songs on Beyond the Gates more. I think the the bad production value of Seven Churches takes away from how much that album kicks ass.

  • @arise212 Yeah, I know what you're saying. Seven Churches is a classic album no doubt but Beyond The Gate is greater production and also music maturity. Both albums equally rule.

  • @Chuloloc Yeah, it's the eyes of horror that was a bust. 1st two were cool and swing of the axe on metal massacre version.

  • @junechris Yeah, that's a classic tune.

  • @Chuloloc i agree. this is better than 7 churches. there were like only 4 really memorable songs on that lp

  • @HerveGamerDude Nah, both albums are classics but Beyond The Gates is bassically a step foward from from the early and mid-80's thrash for thrash matured in 1986.
