It's just that Ya Kid K was prominently acknowledged as being the featured vocalist on this song as opposed to on "Pump Up the Jam" where they sort of kept her out of the spotlight. Also, this song didn't really become a hit until 2-3 years after the initial success of Technotronic, by which point Ya Kid K had indeed embarked on a solo career. But this particular song dates to before that.

To all of the nasty comments about her tomboy appearance, you have to remember the baggy clothes were in fashion even for females in the early 90s. If you are skeptical, then look up any video from TLC's first album and you will see they dressed in a similar fashion and did not adopt the sexy look until album #2. Other groups like Xscape also dressed that way as well.
