This is the only way to go now days. You have to really keep up with your receipts or you will have huge headaches trying to remember how much the transactions was for. If that does happen and you bank online, then you can find out what the debit was. Just keep track of the reciepts and it will be so easy!
I remember this is how it was for us Canadians years ago this of course was before we had to worry about debit card theft but to avoid this don't share your pin number with anyone and that's sometimes is hard to do. Keep a close check on your account and debit cards will be your friend.
