The truth is about all of these negative reviews is divided into two groups 1) people who havent seen the musical or 2) people who saw it enjoyed it and were too afraid to stick out from the crowd so they agreed that it wasnt a good show
Well unlike most people i LOVED the show i think it could've been the best broadway show i have ever seen. if none of you believe me then why dont you go purchase a ticket and see so for yourself and when you go to see it com e in with a positive attitude
@pokpie555 You forgot number 3, people who have seen great productions such as How to Succeed in Business..., Hairspray, The Lion King, Jersey Boys, Wicked, etc. And then saw this play and actually thought it was an overpriced piece of shit.
@pokpie555 btw i do respect your view on it being a good show, but i just have to point out that there actually are people who actually thought this play was shit, and i am one of them.
I've been extremely skeptical, if not, I was making fun of the whole idea when I first heard about this musical. But I have to be honest, it sounds and also looks very promising and I'm really excited and curious about it now.
yes, not memorable! does anyone leave the theatre humming a song from spiderman? no, they do not! nor will they! it is what it is, and though amazing effects, the rest of the show is weak! people will only go to see the show because it a beloved comic strip character, part of our childhood and history. unfortunately, they will not go because of the score, sorry to say, but true!
saw this for the 2nd time last night, and must say i prefer the previous production without the changes. overall this is a really bad show, so expensive! most enjoyable aspect is the visual effects, and just not enough of the them. songs are mediocre and not memorable, sets at best amateurish. reeve carney(spiderman) is weak in every way, should fire him and recast the part! no sex appeal, nor great voice, he's not tobey for sure. was hoping for better this time around, didn't happen. bummer!
5:33-6:14 I want to know if that song actually made it into the musical and what it is called- the only three lines are stuck in my head and I want to hear the whole thing! :D
@snowstarwarrior135 yes it made it in (as of 5/29/11)... It's called 'no more' you can pre-order the CD on amazon if (being released june 14 2011) I went to see it last night; it was the most amazing thing I've EVER seen I could hardly breath for 1/2 of the show... and EVERY seat in the house is a good seat (even the very back) because spidey runs through the audience. I'm planning on going for a second time!
And one more comment. The producers says, "no one wants to see the 25 million dollar Spiderman."
Well I saw the 60 million dollar one and it's very troubled, even boring and confusing in parts.
When I first moved to New York I saw a production of Twelfth Night in a parking lot--a parking lot! And it was better than this production of Spiderman. It is a capitalist notion that money makes everything better. This production proves that is simply not true.
Spiderman is a flawed masterpiece, at least as of Taymor's dismissal. It is visually the most provocative show I have ever seen. But the music is flat and frequently uninspired and the second act makes little, to no, sense.
That said I am happy I saw it and continue to look forward to Julie Taymor's next move. What will the show be like without her at the helm? Who knows...
Hey everyone! see Spider-man for yourself and write the review they really deserve! I saw this on broadway and it was amazing, there were no mechanical or vocal issues, nor any injuries. the spider girl they refer to in this video is Arachne. @antman1001000 the Green Goblin in this is like the Joker in The Dark Knight, you just love them for their evil personality.
Julie Taymor is still an amazing director and a huge source of creative inspiration, hands down. If Spider-man on Broadway ever does finally work out all their problems, I'm sure it'll be a pretty cool theater experience, but if not, Julie Taymor is still awesome and one of the best and most innovative damn directors of stage or screen.
"I don't think anything really creative can't be done without danger or risk".

I saw it, and it was spectacular. Just because the music doesn't match typical musical theatre standards, doesn't mean it wasn't great. Yeah, the story was a bit corny, but I honestly think they did a really nice job with the story.

As much as everyone is slating this I think it looks kinda fun! Yes theres the whole thing about "Braodway audiences aren't idiots...blah, blah, blah!" seriously, its entertaining and why does it have to be judged so harshly. I think its because Bono and The Edge are involved. Who cares! It looks fun and entertaining :D
Saw this show in December with high expectations, and it ended up being complete shit.
Bono, The Edge, and Julie Taymor are insulting the intelligence of Broadway audiences. The immense ego and lack of soul that has gone into this show is embarassing.
@JesusofSuburbia203 And made her a villian? Too often these people who take the comic book ideas don't care to do enough research to stay true to comics.
@JesusofSuburbia203 No, they aren't taking credit for Spider-Women. Acachne is what she is called throughout the entire show... Buy tickets. It's worth it.

I SAW THIS THIS A WEEK AGO AND IT WAS A TOTAL MESS FROM START TO BORING FINISH. FLASH, TRASH AND NOTHING INBETWEEN. THE ENTIRE PRODUCTION IS RIDICULOUS!
Lol how can you not know the point? Its explained at least 3 times in the video...to bring Spiderman to Broadway, its more of an artistic venture than a business venture.
just saw it today.. the music SUCKED ASS!!!!! wow it was the worst music i've ever heard. bono and The Edge can't write music if their lives depended on it
@Silverado2010s well, the plot is all mixed up and the show doesn't really end. the first act kind of makes sense but then the second act is just stuck in there and they put in this spider woman which makes things worse. the set is fantastic though and the performers are very talented but they're working with crappy material.
Wow interesting. I would like to see this. It's cool to see a woman behind the scenes creating awesome costumes, thus far. Heck the production team seems to being a good job.
wow... i didn't know Bono and The Edge created Spiderwoman... i always thought that some comic book writers strained from the Comic Book Code's authority created her back in the late 1970s
Really admire Bono and The Edge as they take their music into new areas for new sounds and to create new experiences. Takes a lot of courage to open yourself up like that and many would play it safe tucked away in the past.
Lion King is showing in 7 theatres around the world and is poised to break $4 Billion. What is to prevent that with Spiderman? Nothing, I would conjecture; nothing at all.
It looks like an amazing musical. Broadway never ceases to amazing. I think it will do good look at the cirque series. At least they are trying to make it safe though
@diamondrokksdahows Hopefully the money people earned from the musical will allow them to hire more people (jobs), or buy more from other companies who then can hire more people (more jobs).
@4HMxDante Why do you hate Bono? Have you ever tried to make an impact? Is that what you hate? I admire Bono for the energy he has to create great music, and try to make the world a better place. You do not have the right to shit on someone who tries to do good in the world. Go shit on Wall Street or George Bush and his cronies if you want to hate someone.
@Cocopot63 Sorry but I don't think making music for a 'spiderman' broadway musical is making an IMPACT. They said they were making the music dark, but i have heard darker music from an ice cream truck!!! I know Bono has done stuff for charity in the past, but boy don't we know about it! There are millions of 'little' people making an 'impact' every day and they get no credit. We don't hate Bono, we just hate the fact that he loves himself.
Hey, that guy playing Peter Parker now plays Flash! And understudies Peter!

So, what is the point of making a $60M musical? There's no way they would have gained a profit, as is the ultimate goal of any business venture...
blackberryjuice1 1 year ago
@blackberryjuice1
Lol how can you not know the point? Its explained at least 3 times in the video...to bring Spiderman to Broadway, its more of an artistic venture than a business venture.

Julie likes it when people say "That is a horrible lousy idea?" Well guess what? It is and almost all of your projects are horrible...good job!

If you look at this more like a Cirque Du Soleil show based on Spider-Man, and not a page-by-page adaptation of the comics, you'll be happier.
They're after the SPIRIT of the character, not fanservice.

The plot synopsis I read looks outlandishly stupid and very unfaithful to the mythos.
Uncle Ben gets hit by a stolen car?
*Emily* Osborn?
Spider-Man kills the Green Goblin by tying him to a falling piano?

just saw it today.. the music SUCKED ASS!!!!! wow it was the worst music i've ever heard. bono and The Edge can't write music if their lives depended on it
xanafanadu 1 year ago
@xanafanadu did you really see the show?... how was the show...without the music
Silverado2010s 1 year ago
@Silverado2010s well, the plot is all mixed up and the show doesn't really end. the first act kind of makes sense but then the second act is just stuck in there and they put in this spider woman which makes things worse. the set is fantastic though and the performers are very talented but they're working with crappy material.
xanafanadu 1 year ago
Wow interesting. I would like to see this. It's cool to see a woman behind the scenes creating awesome costumes, thus far. Heck the production team seems to being a good job.

show is great! music was waaay better than I expected!
MrBud85 1 year ago
wow... i didn't know Bono and The Edge created Spiderwoman... i always thought that some comic book writers strained from the Comic Book Code's authority created her back in the late 1970s
dethisbtfl 1 year ago
Really admire Bono and The Edge as they take their music into new areas for new sounds and to create new experiences. Takes a lot of courage to open yourself up like that and many would play it safe tucked away in the past.
Good for them and can't wait to see it!
gatsby8870 1 year ago
Bono seems like a smug douche this whole documentary. Either way, the music he wrote for this is better than anything U2 has ever done.

Lion King is showing in 7 theatres around the world and is poised to break $4 Billion. What is to prevent that with Spiderman? Nothing, I would conjecture; nothing at all.

it looks really cool but seriously $60mil? *whistles* and how many homeless people are in New York???
diamondrokksdahows 1 year ago
@diamondrokksdahows Hopefully the money people earned from the musical will allow them to hire more people (jobs), or buy more from other companies who then can hire more people (more jobs).
Thank God the money doesn't just disappear

I hate Bono with every fiber of my being...Seriously I cant fucking stand him
4HMxDante 1 year ago
@4HMxDante Why do you hate Bono? Have you ever tried to make an impact? Is that what you hate? I admire Bono for the energy he has to create great music, and try to make the world a better place. You do not have the right to shit on someone who tries to do good in the world. Go shit on Wall Street or George Bush and his cronies if you want to hate someone.
Cocopot63 1 year ago
@Cocopot63 Sorry but I don't think making music for a 'spiderman' broadway musical is making an IMPACT. They said they were making the music dark, but i have heard darker music from an ice cream truck!!! I know Bono has done stuff for charity in the past, but boy don't we know about it! There are millions of 'little' people making an 'impact' every day and they get no credit. We don't hate Bono, we just hate the fact that he loves himself.
