  • Hey, that guy playing Peter Parker now plays Flash! And understudies Peter!

  • 2:07 !!!

  • Watching this old vid, it's fascinating to see how far this show has come and how much has changed since its inception.

I hope someone makes a documentary about Turn off the Dark someday. It would probably make a better one of those than a live musical...

  • That woman is crazy

  • the biggest problem is that the music sucks

  • I wanna see this soo much

  • "I love it when people say 'That's a bad idea.' I think that's great!"

Tell that to the actors in body casts.

  • The truth is about all of these negative reviews is divided into two groups 1) people who havent seen the musical or 2) people who saw it enjoyed it and were too afraid to stick out from the crowd so they agreed that it wasnt a good show

Well unlike most people i LOVED the show i think it could've been the best broadway show i have ever seen. if none of you believe me then why dont you go purchase a ticket and see so for yourself and when you go to see it com e in with a positive attitude

  • @pokpie555 You forgot number 3, people who have seen great productions such as How to Succeed in Business..., Hairspray, The Lion King, Jersey Boys, Wicked, etc. And then saw this play and actually thought it was an overpriced piece of shit.

  • @pokpie555 btw i do respect your view on it being a good show, but i just have to point out that there actually are people who actually thought this play was shit, and i am one of them.

  • I've been extremely skeptical, if not, I was making fun of the whole idea when I first heard about this musical. But I have to be honest, it sounds and also looks very promising and I'm really excited and curious about it now.

  • what's the name of the song in 05:27 - 06:16?

  • @itzikPinhassi87

"No More" , it's on the concept album.

  • what's the name of the song in 05:27 - 06:16?

  • Since the first film Spidey's gone downhill

fIRst SP2 then SP3 and now THIS

    I'm dreading the reboot

  • Wow Chinese Mary Jane.

  • @MrReuben13 She's not Mary Jane she was helping out with the songs when they where getting composed. She plays Arachne.

  • Um Spiderwoman already exists Irish rockers

  • HOLY SHIT GREEN GOBLIN LOOKS LIKE A FUCKING DOUCHE

  • Bono looks great for 51

  • Hmmm. I'm a bit skeptical about this.

    The music's good though.

  • I bet someone said MacBoo in that theater.

  • So sad , so gay

  • bono and edge are an inspiration to the homosexual community...its a shame that the media is slandering them just because they're gay

  • he died at the signing!!!! Talk about an OMEN!

  • this is sacrilige. i know bono doesnt know any better but he should have been stopped! what lenghts will these people go to ruin my childhood?

  • yes, not memorable! does anyone leave the theatre humming a song from spiderman? no, they do not! nor will they! it is what it is, and though amazing effects, the rest of the show is weak! people will only go to see the show because it a beloved comic strip character, part of our childhood and history. unfortunately, they will not go because of the score, sorry to say, but true!

  • I heard this musical is crap, but the songs are pretty cool :D

  • saw this for the 2nd time last night, and must say i prefer the previous production without the changes. overall this is a really bad show, so expensive! most enjoyable aspect is the visual effects, and just not enough of the them. songs are mediocre and not memorable, sets at best amateurish. reeve carney(spiderman) is weak in every way, should fire him and recast the part! no sex appeal, nor great voice, he's not tobey for sure. was hoping for better this time around, didn't happen. bummer!

  • @raypaul973 Not memorable? That's just ridiculous

  • Hi, I'm Discount Barbara Walters...

  • 5:33-6:14 I want to know if that song actually made it into the musical and what it is called- the only three lines are stuck in my head and I want to hear the whole thing! :D

  • @snowstarwarrior135 yes it made it in (as of 5/29/11)... It's called 'no more' you can pre-order the CD on amazon if (being released june 14 2011) I went to see it last night; it was the most amazing thing I've EVER seen I could hardly breath for 1/2 of the show... and EVERY seat in the house is a good seat (even the very back) because spidey runs through the audience. I'm planning on going for a second time!

  • @lucymcfaith omg!!! really? i want to see it so badly! that's so cool that you got to see it! You should take me... :D

  • I hope Bullying By Numbers is on the EP!!!!

  • Love Julie Taymor. Its a shame she was never able to see her vision fully realized.

  • I actually own the shirt the guys wearing at 13:02.

  • @captaintaco2345 where did u get it??

  • @1musicalmad There was a store outside the theater. You could buy the shirt, a mouse pad and other things.

  • @captaintaco2345 ah cool, the jacket too?

  • @1musicalmad Unfortunately, no. :(

  • Theyve recked spiderman

  • @TheCyberplAN Screw you.

  • @captaintaco2345 They have

  • @TheCyberplAN Again, screw you. I saw it, and it was amazing.

  • @captaintaco2345 Then thats your taste jesus

  • MADHURI?!

  • And one more comment. The producers says, "no one wants to see the 25 million dollar Spiderman."

Well I saw the 60 million dollar one and it's very troubled, even boring and confusing in parts.

When I first moved to New York I saw a production of Twelfth Night in a parking lot--a parking lot! And it was better than this production of Spiderman. It is a capitalist notion that money makes everything better. This production proves that is simply not true.

  • @davidezell Amen, David! Amen!

  • Spiderman is a flawed masterpiece, at least as of Taymor's dismissal. It is visually the most provocative show I have ever seen. But the music is flat and frequently uninspired and the second act makes little, to no, sense.

That said I am happy I saw it and continue to look forward to Julie Taymor's next move. What will the show be like without her at the helm? Who knows...

  • bono and the edge killed this musical

julie taymor is awesome, but i think she lost it when she did this

  • how bout "the musical testicle of spider-man."

  • Comment removed

  • Hey everyone! see Spider-man for yourself and write the review they really deserve! TheaterAdvisor is offering tickets right now at 45% off- don't pass up the opportunity to see the show that everyone is talking about. Tickets are only $75- you won't be able to find these tickets anywhere else on the web.

go to theateradvisor . com backslash deals backslash 1 to check it out!

  • did bono and the edge kill the producer? went out to get a pen.... likely story.

  • I saw this on broadway and it was amazing, there were no mechanical or vocal issues, nor any injuries. the spider girl they refer to in this video is Arachne. @antman1001000 the Green Goblin in this is like the Joker in The Dark Knight, you just love them for their evil personality.

  • FORGET THIS 'TURD SANDWICH"...BRING ON "HULKLAHOMA"...

  • is there a interview with stan lee about this ?

  • Julie Taymor is still an amazing director and a huge source of creative inspiration, hands down. If Spider-man on Broadway ever does finally work out all their problems, I'm sure it'll be a pretty cool theater experience, but if not, Julie Taymor is still awesome and one of the best and most innovative damn directors of stage or screen.

  • i wonder why the green goblin would save the show

  • i hope this show closes before the curtain even opens!!!

  • What a waist of money

  • "I don't think anything really creative can't be done without danger or risk".

Reading all of the neg reviews for this video, it's astonishing to realize how many people can't fathom that phrase.

Instead, those neg people all take the easy road of easy criticism without being compassionate about all the hard work, massive effort, huge money, and a shit load of doubt that has been put into it...

  • @bananaman17 Still, well meant is not well done.

  • @bananaman17 Easy for her to say when her ass isn't dangling from a wire. I don't think "omg I'm so edgy" is an excuse for ego and incompetence, especially when people are getting hurt. And I'm not pooh-poohing the hard work and effort, but rather that so much effort was put into something that really isn't good and wasn't worth such huge sacrifices.

  • hahahahah fail

  • @ethan12355 seriously I wonder if batman would kill himself on a zip line..... or maybe he might Acidently try 2 stealth knock out somone and crack there neck instead by accident

  • lets hope to god they dont make a batman broad way musical or wolverine or... hulk

  • One of the things they never thought of is that this could NEVER go on tour, but it looks cool all the same!

  • @junior113872005 LMFAO !!! Are you dumb, in denial, or both ?? Try reading ANY newspaper in North America to find out exactly what happened to her.

  • Seriously, who the fuck thinks this will be a good idea? Who wants to hear spider-man singing?

  • @videogamenostalgia Me! U GOT A PROBLEM WITH THAT???

  • despite what critics say, and despite the delays and push backs, you can't deny that there are still tons of people who like it and want to see it and that it's making bank.

  • Poor Julie. Bitch got canned from this train wreck.

  • @mistypeppersny she didn't get canned. She has other things to work on so they are bringing in a second director who is able to be there 24/7

  • @Junior113872005 you said "She didn't get canned. She has other things to work on..."

You silly chick, that is what happens when people in elevated social positions get fired. A senile general will be allowed to retire early, an bad CEO gets moved aside to a high-paid "advisory" position, and an overconfident director whose ship is sinking can slink away under the cover of "other projects". When little people get fired the reasons are stated clearly. You're too smart to believe that, i hope

  • 5.000 extras (Across the Universe), 65million, 97 previews, 50 feet in the air -sounds like the creativity of an accountant (no offense to accts).

  • 5:25 what song is this?

  • Bono makes me want to yell "POTATO!"

  • They actually have Carnage in this

  • lol utter crap..obviously bono and chumbs are bored and have far to much money..

  • great report.... but can somebody please tell bono to take off his sunglasses indoors

  • its really good. i loved it very edgy a little corny but it was awesome

  • Was that the actress who plays Madhuri on "Outsourced" at 4:25???

  • I saw it, and it was spectacular. Just because the music doesn't match typical musical theatre standards, doesn't mean it wasn't great. Yeah, the story was a bit corny, but I honestly think they did a really nice job with the story.

  • what a horrible lowsy idea

  • @shrew246

A "horrible lousy" idea without a comma between the two adjectives is a double-negative and thus you are actually saying it's a great idea. You have terrible grammar AND spelling ("Lowsy" isn't a word; you mean "Lousy") while they are on Broadway with a multi-million production. Things that make you go hmmmm...

  • @gatsby8870 oh great, a grammar Nazi, everyone's least favourite internet user.

  • @gatsby8870

..or worse yet, a "you". A critic who doesn't hold themself to any standards. Yikes!

  • really...really....love how NOT musicaly trained they are..lol

  • My impression is that the human beings are just pawns to them amongst the million dollar set pieces.

  • Not even Julie Taymor can keep a musical about Spider Man from being shit.

  • the show was spectacular!

  • omg i cant wait... wait to forget i saw this shit

  • saw it last week : first act is pretty spectacular, lots of spectacular flying but really more a theme park ride rather than a musical...although if you'r sitting first row center like myself you may get spiderman's crotch just missing your face by an inch !

anyway : as theatre music it is worthless (except for the bit of Rodgers and Hart that the green goblin performs :-) and the second act is such a mess that anyone who can make sense of it deserves a free ticket!

  • Going to be great! Too much talent not too...

    Hang in there, all!

  • @thecholzz or almost sell out for 4? it's not really that big a task.

  • was it actually anygood?

  • Song at 5:30?

  • As much as everyone is slating this I think it looks kinda fun! Yes theres the whole thing about "Braodway audiences aren't idiots...blah, blah, blah!" seriously, its entertaining and why does it have to be judged so harshly. I think its because Bono and The Edge are involved. Who cares! It looks fun and entertaining :D

  • Saw this show in December with high expectations, and it ended up being complete shit.

Bono, The Edge, and Julie Taymor are insulting the intelligence of Broadway audiences. The immense ego and lack of soul that has gone into this show is embarassing.

  • What is up with 02:07

  • they're takin credit for spiderwoman? SHE HAD HER OWN CARTOON!!!!!

  • @JesusofSuburbia203 And made her a villian? Too often these people who take the comic book ideas don't care to do enough research to stay true to comics.

  • @JesusofSuburbia203 "A spider woman." Not spiderwoman. The character's name is Arachne.

  • @JesusofSuburbia203 No, they aren't taking credit for Spider-Women. Acachne is what she is called throughout the entire show... Buy tickets. It's worth it.

  • @JesusofSuburbia203 Arachne*

  • @JesusofSuburbia203 they said "A spider-woman"

not one of the many spider-women already featured in the comics.....

and they may not mean a spider-woman as in what we have seen in the comics

  • @JesusofSuburbia203 It's not literally spiderwoman. Do your research before you judge.

  • @JesusofSuburbia203

    Not Spiderwoman Arachne

  • @JesusofSuburbia203 no,no,no. You misunderstand. This is a new Spider Woman named Arachne, based off of the Greek myth about spiders. Look it up. She weaves spider-mans costume when Uncle Ben dies, but when he decides he doesn't want to be spider-man anymore, she goes crazy and tries to kill Mary Jane.

  • @captaintaco2345 wow that sounds cool- in the version I saw arachne has a really minor role

  • @JesusofSuburbia203 actually arachne is no longer a villainess, she now plays a minor role as... I guess you could call her 'spider-god'

  • Why are all of you guys negative about this musical?? Give it a chance

  • I SAW THIS THIS A WEEK AGO AND IT WAS A TOTAL MESS FROM START TO BORING FINISH. FLASH, TRASH AND NOTHING INBETWEEN. THE ENTIRE PRODUCTION IS RIDICULOUS!

  • My spidey sense tells me that this musical will be shit

  • @thecholzz actually at this point it would have to be 6 years

  • lol this is pretty embarassing, bono and the edge, comedy gold!

  • So, what is the point of making a $60M musical? There's no way they would have gained a profit, as is the ultimate goal of any business venture...

  • @blackberryjuice1

Lol how can you not know the point? Its explained at least 3 times in the video...to bring Spiderman to Broadway, its more of an artistic venture than a business venture.

  • Julie likes it when people say "That is a horrible lousy idea?" Well guess what? It is and almost all of your projects are horrible...good job!

  • A swarm of angry green hornets! HILARIOUS (facepalm)

  • fucking americans

  • @uprooting don't mind if i do ;)

  • @uprooting i like pie

  • If you look at this more like a Cirque Du Soleil show based on Spider-Man, and not a page-by-page adaptation of the comics, you'll be happier.

They're after the SPIRIT of the character, not fanservice.

  • The plot synopsis I read looks outlandishly stupid and very unfaithful to the mythos.

Uncle Ben gets hit by a stolen car?

    *Emily* Osborn?

Spider-Man kills the Green Goblin by tying him to a falling piano?

  • just saw it today.. the music SUCKED ASS!!!!! wow it was the worst music i've ever heard. bono and The Edge can't write music if their lives depended on it

  • @xanafanadu did you really see the show?... how was the show...without the music

  • @Silverado2010s well, the plot is all mixed up and the show doesn't really end. the first act kind of makes sense but then the second act is just stuck in there and they put in this spider woman which makes things worse. the set is fantastic though and the performers are very talented but they're working with crappy material.

  • Wow interesting. I would like to see this. It's cool to see a woman behind the scenes creating awesome costumes, thus far. Heck the production team seems to being a good job.

  • show is great! music was waaay better than I expected!

  • wow... i didn't know Bono and The Edge created Spiderwoman... i always thought that some comic book writers strained from the Comic Book Code's authority created her back in the late 1970s

  • Really admire Bono and The Edge as they take their music into new areas for new sounds and to create new experiences. Takes a lot of courage to open yourself up like that and many would play it safe tucked away in the past.

Good for them and can't wait to see it!

  • Bono seems like a smug douche this whole documentary. Either way, the music he wrote for this is better than anything U2 has ever done.

  • THEY FU*KED UP THE GREEN GOBLIN!!!

  • yeh they could of kept it atleast a tad like the comics it seems like they fucked it up on purpose

  • i really really want to see this. this looks amazing.

  • become a fan of Broadway star to be Jeannine Elizabeth Yoder

  • Fuck all the haters, watch something you fucktards!!

  • Lion King is showing in 7 theatres around the world and is poised to break $4 Billion. What is to prevent that with Spiderman? Nothing, I would conjecture; nothing at all.

  • id give it a try

  • lol, spiderwoman?? WTF

  • 5:29 - 6:13 wow!!!!!

just U2 know how to do it!

  • I hope this show finally has some good luck. It's almost as if it's haunted.

  • This is garbage.

  • @thedavidiscoolbeans you're righr & totally unsafe. with 30 million you can feed a lot of hungry kids around the world.

  • @thedavidiscoolbeans So don't watch you fucking troll. It's not that hard.

  • It looks like an amazing musical. Broadway never ceases to amazing. I think it will do good look at the cirque series. At least they are trying to make it safe though

  • It looks like an amazing musical. Broadway never ceases to amazing. I think it will do good look at the cirque series.

  • this actually looks kinda cool...

  • ʎɐqǝ ɟɟo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ɹǝʌǝu 'uɯɐp

  • Why does this feel so much like an Onion news clip :)

  • @gabrius99 The bit where they leave the room and come back to sign the contract only to find the guy is dead is like something out of Spinal Tap.

  • 13:06

I want that blazer. I want it sooo bad.

  • it looks really cool but seriously $60mil? *whistles* and how many homeless people are in New York???

  • @diamondrokksdahows Hopefully the money people earned from the musical will allow them to hire more people (jobs), or buy more from other companies who then can hire more people (more jobs).

Thank God the money doesn't just disappear

  • @diamondrokksdahows Maybe the homeless should get some jobs.

  • haha this sucks so bad

  • from what i heard, its 5 years...just to break even

  • Julie Taymor is a creative genius. I'm anxious to see how this turns out no matter if it's good or bad. I so want it to be amazing, though

  • While this does look cool, I just can't stop thinking that a Spider-Man musical is a stupid idea. No offense meant.

  • I hate Bono with every fiber of my being...Seriously I cant fucking stand him

  • @4HMxDante Why do you hate Bono? Have you ever tried to make an impact? Is that what you hate? I admire Bono for the energy he has to create great music, and try to make the world a better place. You do not have the right to shit on someone who tries to do good in the world. Go shit on Wall Street or George Bush and his cronies if you want to hate someone.

  • @Cocopot63 Sorry but I don't think making music for a 'spiderman' broadway musical is making an IMPACT. They said they were making the music dark, but i have heard darker music from an ice cream truck!!! I know Bono has done stuff for charity in the past, but boy don't we know about it! There are millions of 'little' people making an 'impact' every day and they get no credit. We don't hate Bono, we just hate the fact that he loves himself.
