A quick google search will show you that there is an estimated population in north america only (not including canada) of just under a million, hardly killed off. And reading through my books of the old west, some of the best buffallo harvesters were black.

Buffalo hunters are harvester now a nicer spin than hunter or killer I guess. And as far as Black hunters go what was the ratio 10000 europeans to one black. My favorite Bison was BLUE BABE.He's a long horned Ice Age bison now extinct His entire body was found frozen in Alaska with a lion's tooth embedded in his back.His body froze soild before the lions could finish eating him.The minerals soil interacted with his skin causing it to turn blue.therfore his name is Blue Babe.

They do have game farms where you pay to hunt the bison. You have to put in a reservation because only so many can be harvested. The entire animal is used, nothing goes to waste.
