I really love watching the GOP continue to decay to its lowest common denominator!! Thanks go out to the religious right, Fox channel, Karl Rove, George Bush, Dick Cheney, Ronald Raygun and all the other traitors that have tried to hand America to the greedy. May they die slow and painful deaths!
@cmfluteguy +63 seats in House, +680 seats in state legislatures (better than Democrats in 1974) and did not capture the Senate because of the Tea Party.
Arlen did what was best for Arlen. He did it when he joined the republican party, he's doing it now since he can't get elected as an R. To read any more into this is mistake.
What I read into it is that he has the balls to put the question to his constituents. What would DC look like if ALL congressmen and senators did that?
The Republican party will continue to purify themselves out of exsistence. They are finished, their is no hope for them as they will persist to vere to the right. Palinesque optics are turning the electorate against them.
I find this amusing, because the constituents picked who they wanted in those districts he was naming. And there is no hard proof that if the other cantitade had won the primary, that they would have won the general election. As a constituent of Arlen Spector, it's clear what he's doing. He was behind in the polls 20%, and knew he would lose. This move was purely political, as Arlen always is.
What is he is saying that the RNC does not back the moderates in the primary campaign. They support the far right conservative that has no chance of winning.
If the RNC send funding and agressively campaign for the moderates, the outcome would have been different.
If the Republican Party continues to embrace the far-right, they will continue to lose general elections in key states.
For example, Sarah Palin was too far right for many Republicans, that is why McCain lost.
No McCain lost because he was too wishy washy. I personally worked as an intern at a McCain office, and had plenty of people come in and tell me that they weren't voting for him because of items like the T.A.R.P package, and then would complain about out of countrol spending.
However, right now, Republicans, as do I, feel that we aren't getting anywhere with the current strategy. Why do you think we lost the '06 campaign? Because Republicans lost their way, and were high spending politicians.
Oh I completely agree. That's what happened in the '06 campaign, that's what happend in the '08 campaign, although I think Palin is the only reason it was as close as it was. Hopefully they can find their way by '10, because they won't have a prayer of getting in there again if they don't.
Arlen Specter while I appreciate your comments as well as Lincoln Chafee's service please remember you are now a Democrat. So don't openly lament the lack of conservative federal judges.
Fat chance, You can either have Specter or you can have a liberal in Penn. Seems like Specter did you cons a favor by increasing his electoral chances. Though he will almost certainly fine tune himself more liberal than if you and your whacky fringe wingnut loon friends had maintained and not abused your leverage you had over him.
so if your republican and voted for this turd your vote has been turned against you!!!! why whould anybody ever vote for a guy that does whatever he has to just to do to get re elected.... how can the dems trust him not to flip again when the poles show he should???? THIS MAN IS A RODENT !!!!
Specter didn't turn on the republican party before Specter's voters did. Seems like a typical con you don't know what you're talking about. You do make a valid point however, us liberals don't owe Specter a thing. I would give him a chance and certainly have always respected him but there's no reason to vote for him over a real progressive. Unless he outs himself as one.
GOP doesn't smell and it tastes like cinnamon. Silly Kargen, next thing you'll be saying is Bush was a bad president and GOP is causing the de-evolution of America. That is strictly not true.. and Fox News = Fair and Balanced.
Obama doesn't talk about the "Federal Reserve" does he.
If you think a budget deficit in the trillions of dollars is not going to have an affect on THE US FED NOTE, then I guess you'll have to see the devastation for yourself.
Obama, Bush they're all following the same agenda.
An observation of my friend as in lived through WW2.
Food prices should be coming down, gold prices should be $35 dollars an oz. if the government isn't creating "paper wealth". Don't let reality hijack you living in la la land.
"Food prices should be coming down, gold prices should be $35 dollars an oz"
Says who? Food prices have been coming down for a year now.
Look the fact is we've had deflation for the first time in half a century, no matter what bullshit you spew nothing changes that fact. Incomes are inflation adjusted so your bullshit about $35 gold is irrelevant. You're also forgetting the growth in population and demand.
Not on some of the items I'm buying, don't buy them anymore.
Gold stayed at $20 an oz for frickin a hundred years.
Remember the gold confiscation of 1933, well the fckers defaulted on the gold certificates they gave the peasants and forbid the peasants from owning gold. How come, can't they run this debacle on fiat money. You idiots will never wake the fck up.
Wake the fuck up? YOU need to wake the fuck up, your stupid ideology never produced an average of 9% annual INFLATION ADJUSTED (stick those gold bars up your ass) growth for 12 years followed by decades more of economic boom.
Its meaningless when the Fed note goes to zero, its all frickin spin.
Look at the fckin government, they're more like a mafia than a government for the people. Like I said you hamsters will never wake up, and you'll take out the whole fiat system with ya.
Upon receiving his Oscar for Best Picture (Platoon) Oliver stone said ", If the American people ever allowed another Vietnam then all those Patriots died for nothing because the American people would have learned nothing.
Afghanistan, Iraq (Endless War) fighting invisible enemies, while the Aholes that caused all this bullcrap walk around free like a Teflon Don.
Those Vietnam vets died for nothing, because the majority of American people don't see a set up when its starring them in the face.
Yeah I understand that. It's healthy however to have some skepticism over people who still have the audacity to call themselves republicans given the context of the current party. Chafee should have turned a Specter and switched because he certainly was less of a republican than Specter was. Chafee's comments a while ago that he blamed Obama for the current partisanship also completely flabbergasted me and luckily is completely out of touch with both the electorate and reality.
I hope that Spector is able to re-evaluate his positions and show comittment to his new affiliation. I'm not saying he should change completely, he just needs to tweak a number of his positions in order to win support for the Democratic primary.
Nice revisionism there, Arlen. The way I remember it, one of Senator Whitehouse's best lines was "Lincoln Chafee is a good guy, but do you want Mitch McConnell to be majority leader?" Money wasn't going to bail out Chafee.
While the optics of this ar good, I don't see why Democrats should back an anti - EFCA "Democrat" desperate to hold on to power when a sold Democrat can beat Toomey easily. This helps us in the short - term, but it' was also Specter's last hope.
I can't believe they threw Specter away. A liberal R is worth a hell of a lot more to them than a moderate D.
I'm ambivalent on him becoming a democrat; much as I'm worried that he'll be more conservative than I'd like, the guy did a hell of a job in sticking his neck out like that. Thankfully it's not my job to build the American government, as I suspect "he gets points for having balls" is a less than great way to pick senators.
He did not stick out his neck. Look, I am a constituent of his, and have heard him interviewed by local and national media.
