  • it comes with built-in webcam

how many gbs hd that has the netbook?

  • As this OS is ran via internet, they could change this OS at any time. Bad?

  • Google has the potential to make a really good laptop but instead they make this shit.

  • They completely ripped off macbook in design. Looks like n overpriced netbook.

  • @djlancematthew I doubt that was intentional and seriously? a ripped of design? What kind of logic is that? Just because something looks similar doesn't mean it is lol. Besides, it was produced for testing which explains its dullness. Oh fanboys.

  • I was promised one in a email from google and I waited months day after day exited and hoping it would be home when I got out of work but it never came and no one answered my email from the chromebook team so I gave up. I would has tested the hell out of it and given good feedback.

I wouldn't buy one now it was 99% off and from what I hear they will be soon.

  • His password is freebird21

  • I wish google had made the CR-48 available to buy...

  • nice laptop, bad OS. Get puppy Linux or Ubuntu and it would be great(and yes i know chrome rips off Ubuntu but chrome OS is still different)

  • i put windows 8 on mine

  • 1:32 ball squeak

  • use gaikai for games, it can play any games !!!

  • i LOVE how they ran out of legitimate things to say about it once it booted up.

  • you cnt download anything

  • no homepage/desktop???wtf

  • @UDEVINU250 Kinda the whole point of Chrome OS... It's based on the web browser Chrome. :P

  • Very lacking in ports. My netbook is an Acer Aspire One, and it has VGA, HDMI, power in, SD reader, 3 USB ports, and kensington lock.

  • @talldude123 When you work in the cloud, you don't need that many ports. However, not to brag, but my uMBP has Thunderbolt, USB, Firewire 400/800, SDCard, kensington lock, Ethernet, and a slot loading optical drive.

  • How much space do they give you in the hard drive? 40 GB? not much more compared to an ipad I suppose

I don't care if it's brand new, or the complete revolution for computers, I don't like it

come on Ubuntu, Windows and Mac, you have to kill the new neighbor

  • @tchmotors nothing is saved in your hard-drive .. everything is saved in the internet..

  • @MrDanteStylez another factor that plays against this crap...

  • cudnt find anythng near

  • It doesn't look like a black macbook. The black macbook look like it.

  • Greatest invention of all time. Everytime you turn it on its the exact product you paid for. No memory box crap to be stuffed by outsiders.

  • Dumbest invention of all time. I have this whole computer on my home page of internet explorer. its called "google".

  • SWEEET BOX!!! but i think ill miss the idea of no wallpaper :|

  • and it opens like a book, like a mac book, wtf, and it has a screen like a mac, and it connects to the internet, just like a mac does. wow

  • .....i wouldn'y buy a laptop JUST for a browser.. which is free

  • @ScreamingForBlood mee

    too

  • @ScreamingForBlood and it's based on the Ubuntu kernel with just a Chrome browser on top of it :D

  • Please guys, i want to know how much powerful this laptop is, can i run modern video games like gears of war on it? this is important to me... Thanks!

  • @exelentdude saying as it has no physicle storage a 400mhz cpu and a intel 800 graphics card you should be able to run any game on the market for the next 2 to 3 years

  • @AwwC00L Thank you, merci, harigatu, shokran, gracias,...

  • Have these guys never even touched a laptop before?

Seriously this was painful to watch.

  • I wish someone would make these laptops availible to ALL the public, just a nice, simple, easy to use, no branded, laptop with windows. Nothing more, Nothing less. That would be perfect

  • NO CAPSLOCK? WTF?! No CD/DVD BURNER? NO FIREWIRE? THIS SH!+ IS WHACK AS H3LL!!!

  • @MrGorillarock i agree

  • Can you just go to internet with this?? xD

  • Comment removed

  • You talk as if half those features haven't existed before. Interesting, but by no means unique.

ie.. "Sleep Mode" is as easy as closing the laptop.. really?

  • lol fuckin noobs.

  • What if i want to install any software like Adobe?? or any other stuff on this... do in need to depend on cloud.. cant i install any software locally and work offline??

  • google laptop not for sale?

    more info on yuppygadget

  • i dont like how theres no desktop cloud services need to be inconspicuous

  • i dont like how theres no desktop

  • Wow, this is the most idiotic invention ever.

Just imagine how easy it can create problems.

If someone get to know your gmail password they will have access to so much information, they don't even need your physical chromebook.

  • it kinda is a MB rip off... only a blind person wont see it... or a dumb person

  • @tabletka666 Wow, not at all.

This concept is has so many flaws

  • how much would this cost you ???

  • @135A5D8 300

  • I'd probably stick to my normal laptop

I like the idea of being able to quit chrome

and also, Who the hell has a gmail account?

  • battery too big, not enough ports, looks dull, nothing like a mac, also want a desktop screen like word processing, setting etc. So all in all quite shit.

  • fuck apple

  • CR-48 doesn't get viruses. Pron galore.

  • Everyone's totally gonna see your password...from this far away...cause we totally know your log in....and totally give a damn...

  • @Xdual1ty43vrX It's the password to his Google account.

  • @AaronArtille I know. My comment still stands.

  • can't blame google for their forward thinking. we'll see if it catches.

  • Wow, a computer that is entirely a browser. I see no reason to scrap my mac for this...

  • These guys are idiots.

  • a Chrome OS laptop shpuld be thinner than a macbook air.

  • @thexerxes25 why?

  • @Ltb0b for one, it does not need a hard drive, it does not need a cd rom drive, most people just download their music and movies anyway. As for software (its just a browser, so over the air updates are possible.

the only hardware that I can see on this thing is a broadcom chip, a camera and maybe flash memory for storing stuff you dont want in the cloud.

  • @thexerxes25 no the answer I was looking for... but meh they could just use thinner parts... To be honest I am very looking forward to the cr-48 s and well technically I would like them to up the processor for awesome super duper flash games \o/ but ye.. depends on the person and well I wouldn't know how much the cr 48s will cost but for me What I am trying to say is you don't need it to be thiner yes.. even though its "made for cloud" it doesn't have to be thin but it was it would be cool :D

  • I was lucky enough to get one, and I love it.

  • Darth-Netbook

  • But will it blend?

  • These better be dirt cheap, because I don't know why anyone would pay a lot of money for a computer that has a browser for a OS.

  • How many assholes does it take to unbox a netbook.... apparently two

  • the inside looks from the 1990's laptops

  • the keyboard does look like a macbook but i want this for fast interwebs access.

  • When not connected to the internet this laptop is just a dead brick :D UNlike the macbook.. nice laptop though..

  • @yamahaespen it's also most likely going to be at leaast $600 less

  • @nepalm2 yup, that's what makes someone like me consider it :) but i have a good question for you: what if i would connect my external USB harddisk and watch movies or listening to music from the disk? would that work? many of the movies requires a media player like for example VLC player.. :)

  • looks like a black macbook...

  • Look like a macbook, why there is same shape from macbook but you have a different kind of the create laptop ....

  • NOT EVEN NEAR A MACBOOK. WANNABE MACBOOK. FUCK OFF WANNABES, this is the copy of the macbook.

  • @howtodothingsonamac MAC IF FOR NIGGERS WANNABES GO USE SOME REAL SHIT LIKE LINUX OR BSD

  • @howtodothingsonamac Macs are cool, but this is nowhere near a macbook wannabe, apple is just barely taking advantage of cloudcomputing with mobileme and this is a full 100% cloud os based netbook, there is a very big difference between a mac which is mostly desktop based for the moment and a cr-48 which still isn't completed and is even rumored to be 3g (less likely 4g) compatible when it is in stores. Don't call Google a mac wannabe.

  • NOT EVEN NEAR A MACBOOK. WANNABE MACBOOK. FUCK OFF WANNABES

  • @howtodothingsonamac

hah. Thanks kid. Why don't you make another tutorial explaining simple image editing, as if it wasn't simple enough. It would be even cooler if you put some lame techno crap playing in the background.

Macs were made for idiots like you. You're paying a premium for simplicity, moron.

  • These guys are boring!

  • These guys are boring!

  • Wow this just became 100% suckish. It only has a browser when you turn it on....what's the point in that???

  • it wil cost 200-205$ according to cnet. i dont think its worth it.... its like, buying google chrome. Im better with my HP... i love windows and i guess a cloud based notebook, which has JUST A SOFTWARE and dont let you do everything.. of course that most of the time we use the intrnet, but, buying a tablet or an iPad will be better for us.

  • the box is smiling at me... 0:42

  • How do you access the webcam? Can you only use it for blogtv and stuff? It doesn't seem like you can even use skype o.O

  • 0:36 smile

  • the computer is like shit !!!

it would be better to buy an ipad which can stay in stan by for one month

then buy o huge laptop which only has a browser !!!

  • 'Like the macbook, like the macbook'

Really, only the buttons are similar, so settle down.

  • So, basically.. people are going to pay $200-$500 for Google Chrome?

  • @FreezieFrostMan Less expensive than the Macbook though.

  • @BootyShortaay8392 LOL, no it's cause we don't like whores, you stupid cunt.

  • Man i missed this =.(

  • Once I got mine, I was able to root it and really customize it using instructions from cr48spot.info

  • Wish they'd stop saying 'Like the macbook'

  • @BensoftMedia lol, because they tried to make a MacBook.

  • @BensoftMedia Yeah. It may be LIKE A MACBOOK, AND VERY MAC-LIKE, but they don't need to constantly say that.

  • @BensoftMedia You have to agree, It looks like a MBP plastic replica.

  • @93JayKay In a vague "squint your eyes way" But then any laptop with that style laptop seems to get accused of copying the Macbook Pro. My Sony Vaio, has the chiclet style keyboard (Sony actually invented it) and my Mac friend says "It is copying the Macbook Pro quite badly though isnt it" I explain Sony came up with that style of keyboard, and he says "Yea....but....it does copy the Macbook Pro though doesnt it?"

  • @BensoftMedia I guess in the end good artists copy, great artists steal, and unfortunately usually the thieves get all the recognition. I didn't know Sony invented it, just as many people don't know Xerox PARC invented the GUI.

  • @BensoftMedia but it looks just like a black macbook, even down to the little notch at the front to open it.

  • @BensoftMedia Because this machine is better than the Macbook!

  • @talldude123 actually is not

  • @carlosmashiado2 For value this machine is so much better.

  • @talldude123 For value? the chromebooks are like 500 dollars that is a 500 $ browser you can get a nice laptop like i don't know a hp one with that where you can run this OS and any other like linux or windows or put 500 more and buy you a mac and run OS X chrome windows linux etc this a low cost pc with a high ass retail price sorry but that's the true (sorry for any bad grammar i'm learning :) peace

  • @carlosmashiado2 Compared to the MacBook, this laptop is a great value. I didn't say this laptop would be a better value than an HP or Acer

  • @talldude123 yeah...there's one major flaw to Chrome OS....no internet = you having a $500 peace of shit box that can do nothing.

  • @lilblake90 You can get apps, or you could install Windows 7 on it.

  • @talldude123 and it would still have 8 hours on it?

  • @lilblake90 Yes, it would be possible...my netbook has the same specs, and it gets an easy 12 hour battery life on power save mode.

  • @talldude123 oh well then that's not so bad.

  • Google gave me this laptop for free for testing it out, the laptop isn't that bad considering it beta and kinda slow with no java , but it's pretty good

  • @BootyShortaay8392 wow that was genious. You were actually able to make me go all the way to that stupid scam site JUST with this comment. You sir deserve a medal

  • Game BOY ?

    q[-_-'']p

  • Did he say "Fan ports"? WTF aren't those the fan vents?

  • @malkito2891 Nope, you provide your own fan... that's the port for it :P

  • Love my CR 48. It really is awsome. I love it.

  • Love my CR 48. It really is awsome. I love it.

  • does it have java? I WANT MINECRAFT

  • @MinpAndCorey4Eva No minecraft. i tried

  • @moverton FAKE AND GAY.

  • i like this, very sleek... no brandwhoring

  • God I'm tired of them saying it's mac like...

It has a keyboard, thats very mac like... You know not like any other laptop on the market.

  • @dvdcchrn Your an idiot hahahaha its not the fact it has a keyboard its the type of keyboard

  • I thought those were my gerbils when i got the box. was dissapointed to find a computer istead : (

  • Only one USB??!!?!?!

  • Hey if you get accepted do you get an email?

  • Im still shocked no one made fun of al's last name (:

  • I'm just shocked that no one made fun of "al" s last name

  • I came watching this. I'm sending in many applications in order to get it. Probably going to once a day. I would love to be apart of this project.

  • Half of the bottom of the notebook is a battery. O_O

  • it only gives you the internet and nothing else?

    that sounds really crappy

  • @xxxBradTxxx It is a NETBOOK, not a laptop or cpu. It is for the net. There is a storage card. I think you can upgrade it. I do hope they send me one, lol.

  • They look fragile. I'm sure they'll be more sturdy once they get into the market.

  • I love this. Easy to access the web, apps, etc making it simple to quickly learn them.

  • don't forget to be "camera ready" for your mug :)

  • my school is piloting these we get them Wednesday pretty stoked

  • just got mine

    it's awesome

    thanks, google

i even loved reading the warnings (do not bake, blend :) etc.) it was so funny :D

  • @Rightleftdud When did you apply for it? When did you get it?

  • @roblou62 I applied on Tuesday got it on Wednesday lol

I applied several times before, but got nothing.

  • is there a desktop like vista or windows 7

  • If everything is online then that means the only free software will be crap open source stuff, some of it is ok but a lot of it is a load of sh... rubbish and it takes a ducking age to find good software that does exactly what you want it to do, that doesn't have the graphical appeal of Gordan Brown's big ass.

  • This would be perfect for my writing as I use Google Docs. I wish I would have been accepted :-/. If the price is right when they're officially release I may buy one - but I'm not going to choose between a $250 Windows 7 laptop or netbook that can run programs.

  • @Johnb88x how long ago did u submit your application? there could still be hope. i submitted mine 2 months ago and i JUST got it today. god luck.

  • @dcanaday426 About a month ago. Congrats on getting yours, perhaps there is still hope for me!

  • The to front ports on the side of the cr48 are speakers not fan ports! I posted this from my cr 48!

  • oh my god wipe off the thing on the top...must wipe....

  • I'm watching this on my cr-48 too bad my sound is crackling =P I'm not sure if this is hardware or software problem, will they replace a free netbook? lol

  • @Fennecfox10

That is a known issue by google that will and or has been fixed recently. My CR-48 used to do that but it stopped after a update. Its not a hardware issue its a sound issue with the the software volume control.

  • @JrockerForLife Thanks a lot, clears it up a bit for me =)

  • lame, lol

  • USELESS!!!!!

  • very sonyesque keyboard you dumbells

  • SSsssooo...

Wait, if you don't spend a bunch of money on a data plan and you're not in wifi, this does....nothing? Zero?

  • @ArKaiN123 You get free Verizon 3G for two years, albeit only 100 Mb per month. I'm only 6-days into my first month and I've already used up 50 Mb. However, in another 6 days I'll just spend $20 to get 30 days of 1Gb.

If my iPhone is fully charged to (since that has an unlimited data plan and is jailbroken) I'll just have that become a WiFi hotspot. That uses up its battery quickly though.

  • @dag101101 No, that's ridiculous. It's fine on an iPad, but I routinely download music and torrent movies into my phone, 100mb/month is pathetic.

  • @ArKaiN123 I completely agree. I'm just didn't know you were aware that they do give you free 3G. But hey, free laptop. I love Google and I love open environments / Linux, so I am proud to be a beta tester of what probably will become the future of computers (like how Android 1.0 and iPhone OS 1.0 become what now dominates the mobile phone market). And besides, as you are aware, there is no downloading music or movies onto the Cr-48. I'm not saying that's a good thing, but you get the point.

  • @ArKaiN123 By "future of computers", I meant to say "future of portable internet devices". I'm tired, but I meant to say that. :)

  • @ArKaiN123 You can use some webapps offline but the idea is that most people use their computers for the internet these days, and by designing a computer around that you make it very secure, very fast, very power efficient (10 hours) and very cheap.

  • You know, the Cr-48, and the Chrome OS in general, somehow brings me back to my elementary/high school days when I was using the old Apple IIe computers. How you'd operate the computer would always be different depending on what program was on the floppy disk you inserted.

For the Cr-48 and its Chrome OS, instead of floppy disks, you have Web pages. I'll stand by and wait for the analogy to sink in.

  • I got mine yesterday its pretty much a browser with a keyboard so you know what its good for so far I love it except for the speakers they suck.

  • @gabrielthemexican You expect any portable computer to have decent speakers?

That's why the thing has a speaker jack on the side, my friend.

  • @rswan5 I expect a portable computer to have speakers that wont pop when you pull the volume all the way up.

    is that reasonable?
