hehe I watch these videos and see how wonderful the world can be, then I step out of the door of my apartment and I find foreclosures, vacant business lots, homelessness, prostitution, drugs, legal immigrants working around the clock, gangs, violence, cluttered highways, Tyrannical Bosses and Scared employees, etc. :( I'm afriad all these things will come around when I am too old to enjoy them. :(::::
the automatic car allredy exists, and it´s namrd a Taxi.
And why do the lousy Ultra use batteries rather than electric tracks on the ground? batteries is demanding far more maintenance than just an electric cord the Ultra connects to, as trains and trams.
I did a interview with the ULTRA creator last year - he laughed at the Venus Project and simply damned it as "impossible" - he uses what he calls "off the shelf technology". I personally think the word "impossible" should have no relation to a person claiming to be a engineer/scientist (note I use the word "personally" I don't want a semantics argument.).
The ULTRA system has many wearing parts. Perhaps it would be viable for the transition but longterm it has far too much maintenance involved.
@BristolZM I'm not surprised by that. Just because the guy invented a neat form of transport doesn't mean he's capable of putting together a larger technical puzzle for global abundance. Besides, he's a business man, and we're kinds at odds with his ultimate goals.
Nevertheless, the technology exists, and yes, it could be made better with less moving parts. I'm not saying ULTra is the ultimate solution, but it does represent a viable step in the right direction as far as concepts go.
I think you already said it...he's thinking/working/designing in the context of the 'profit' system so he's got money on the mind through market share capitalization. Creating something purely for the benefit of mankind - like the guy who created the Polio vaccine and didn't even bother to patent it saying 'the patent belongs to the people - is not something even true scientists/engineers will naturally embrace.
The ultra system looks pretty good, but could use a lot of improvement i think. If you watch the movie minority report the Transportation system they use is similar but much better. I think the system in Minority report is feasible with current technology. If we were in a RBE i think a system like that could be developed very quickly. An obvious advantage of the system in minority report is that the vehicle can go directly to your apartment and take you directly to a floor and room on a buiding.
@N1NJ4lVl4573l2 That's why they're testing it at Heathrow. I'm sure if a city system was designed with this integrated, it would be more direct. But the tracks won't go to your door. I'd prefer to walk a bit and not become too sedentary because of technology. Else we would all become WallE fatties. lol.
I'd also like to point out that the automated car being developed by Princeton has some noteworthy admirers, men in white lab coats, oops I mean white hats; DARPA. Jee, I wonder why they are so interested, hmmm. oh I know robot wars are less costly in human terms, so I guess they'll probably need a prototype maneuverable enough to navigate the rugged landscape of Afghanistan. Less bodies for the US - 10 year war no I say forever war. Afghan lives on the other hand dime a dozen. Love it.
@jwalker1495 I like the technology, not the way in which it may be used negatively. Tech is nothing but a tool. How you use that tool is what matters.
I don't think any serious person questions whether the technology exists or not, as Ghandi had said that there is enough to feed everyone on the planet but not enough to feed the greed of a few. So to put it mildly, The Venus Project is simply stating that we have the technology to solve societal problems; OK, how do we solve the problem of the American Empire, how do we solve the problem of imperialism, state violence, how do we transcend hierarchical work places, where the Bosses rule?
@jwalker1495 America is a unique place. We (the people) generally have good hearts, but shitty leaders (corporate and political). That's somewhat our fault, but also largely driven by the system in which we live. Show people a new way, a better way, a sustainable way, and you'll start a tidal wave shift. Every 20 foot roller starts as a simple bump in the ocean.
I'd say lack of education, lack of appreciation of education and current general inflexibility of education makes people choose "shitty leaders", choosing other incompetent people to make bad decisions on their behalf. Inadequate education creates social and economical gaps between people. Education can prevent fear and suffering and spawn creativity and awareness.
Seriously though, I find that people who doubt the validity of TVP based upon the notion that such technology doesn't exist or "can't" exist to make it real USING YOUTUBE AND THE INTERNET to prove their points highly, highly ironic.
You are such a blessing to movement man. So glad you are here.
The 1939/40 and 1964/65 New York World's Fair illustrated themes of "The World of Tomorrow" and "Peace Through Understanding," transportation and social extravaganzas that never took place.
The internal combustion engine and interstate, the jet engine and airport, completely dominated the post-WWII period. We are still paving over farmland across the United States with future trans-world connections in mind, while having failed to develop high speed rail systems from ocean to ocean and beyond.
@spiritech999 In this I completely agree. The visions were great, but the communications were lacking. Today, with global sat comm, the world is a much tighter, "smaller" place. The problem back then wasn't ideas, but plausible accomplishment on a global scale. Everything was still local. It's not anymore.
@TZMSocialEvolution My world has shrunk to the size of a BB held in the palm of my hand, the mouse and cell phone. Communication technologies were lacking when I was growing up. Television, "Big Screen" movie theaters and Science Fiction films were my staples.
Imagine having a PC in the fifties, sixties, and seventies. "Think globally, and act locally."
Tiesto remix is my favorite version, hard to tell though if this is his version or Delerium since its so quiet in the background. The vocals of Mclachlan are magnificently beautiful especially in this song. I am not generally someone who indulges much emotion, but its hard not to get a tear in the eye listening to this one.
If anyone wants to download and put this on dotsub, go right ahead, but give me the link. We only need one version up there, not 12. lol. See my profile for links to download the full film.

I can't help but think of the Futuristic Sci-Fi movies like Logan's Run and Woody Allen's Film "The Sleeper" when I see the ULTRA vehicles

@BristolZM Also, I'd like to have a go at that guy and find out why he thinks it's laughable.
