you can hear Abrahams Tull in this song. who can deny his influance in Tull in the 2 first albums after hearing this song?
that said, I'm glad he left Tull because I don't think the band would have branched out to do all those great songs from such a wide range of influences had he stayed.
but Mick is a fine artist in his own right, no mistake about it.
I bought this for the album cover before I ever heard a note from them. what a bonus that I really liked the band as well. turned into a big fan. for ten points..does anybody here know what the back of the cover looked like?? lol
Saw them and Keef Hartley record a Sunday show for John Peel. Great but not as extraordinary as the one with Colosseum, Joni Mitchell and a very young James Taylor!
Lizardking, yea it sounds like a Tull tune cause Mick Abrams(guitar) was an origianl member of Tull, the best line up they had til Ian Anderson took over with his stupiod flute playing all over the place f'n gimmick rock. Peace
I'm 62 now and BP was one of my favorite groups from the 60/70's. So, as this was my real music, when the artists could really play an instrument, meanwhile their real old fans may have passed away. The younger don't really know anything about BP. Times go by...
I really appreciate all the you-tube postings of the old Fleetwood Mac, Blodwyn Pig, 10 Years After, Its a Beautiful Day, etc. . . . thanks for taking the time to answer back . . . keep in touch with your musical interests/ideas!
i loved these guys, they had so many great songs...".leave it with me", "the modern alchemist", "drive me" were real fav's but i'd not heard this before
Mick is one of the most underated guitarists of all time ( Please stop me if you have heard that in the contect of any other of a hundred guitarist's ).He was very goodthough you know on the first Jethro Tull disk ( This Was ) outstanding riffs.
Agreed. His guitar work on that first album was fantastic. Good job they had Martin Barre on hand to step in, cos anything less would have seen 'em fall flat after Mick's benchmark playing, I reckon.
man i wish the bbc had not wiped some much of the vintage 60s and 70s top of the pops editions...imagine if they had kept them along with all the old dee time episodes?
Recently a group of professionals working in tandem with the BBC have been working quite successfully to restore lost colour signal to b/w recordings that once existed in colour, this very clip was taken in its b/w form, and given this process, the results looked as close to this origional as you can get. Leaves hope for origional colour programs to be restored to thier former glory. For me,would be very happy to see this process used on Dr Who ep Invasion of the Dinosaurs,Ambassadors Of Death !
y'know, i'm tellin' ya, this guy was just as good as Anderson.
...sometimes the dice just rolls into obscurity. too bad.

dont ya just wish that it was more about music than video talent.
These guys would get nowhere today cos they aint pretty enough but the music is so much better.

I personally find Mick & his songs far more to my liking than anything JT did after he split I only like the 1st JT LP

Slightly reminiscent of the Jethro Tull song ,Living In the Past. Cool.

maybe nothing more nefarious than two artists and personalities with very different visions going their own ways...
better to have had a Jethro Tull and a Blodwyn Pig than a Jetwyn Tug which might not been as good as either depending on your tastes
wait, here's a radical idea: it doesn't have to be an either/or choice - one can like both for what they are rather than what they weren't
imo, too bad there's so much dichotomous thinking about music/musicians which goes nowhere... meh

Yes, I always find it out that people compare musicians like athletes statistics instead of just kicking back and enjoying the finer points of each.
