  • This help ALOT!! TY,SO MUCH

  • i watched family guy....-.-

  • it would help if you didnt wear baggy things cause we cant see what youre doing as well.

  • devant meaning infront. And your turnout in fourth is appaling for a ballet instructor, well, actually, for anyone studying ballet that would be unimaginable. Look at how your foot rolls inwards! Terrible

  • @Becka94647 that wasnt the only thing that bothered be her arm placement from second, 4th, and 1st were all at her chin. way too high. I had Russian ballet teachers growing up and if our arms werent level with the belly button we'd get smacked in the wrist haha. gotta love those Russians so mean but yet so smart in ballet haha

  • @danceurpantsoff13 Yes, honestly, the only way to learn is properly. Slacking like this is bad whether it is jazz or not! You are supposed to look over your hand, if it is chin level you will have incorrect eye placement! I watched this and was like; 'Call this dance?' Know what I mean? If you're gunna dance, dance properly right? She look completley unflexible aswell! I can imagine you very flexible having been russian trained! I'd love to see you dance!!!

  • @Becka94647 awe thanks you're so sweet! im old and washed up now haha. i have dicided to start recording my students and post them. also i was conned into doing solos for comp again (havent done that in 6 years) well see how it goes haha

  • @danceurpantsoff13 awww what I shame. I would love to see your studdents in that case! Please post them up here! I will be watching :)

  • "Devant" , devant?

    No no sweetheart.

  • @Jilllove797 sweetheart? wow...

  • I'm working on 4 now yayy!!!

  • Omg thanks so much this rlly helped a lot thanks!

  • no offence but thats awful especially pronunciation of positions and your arms

  • @mjp1075xo It depends on the teacher where they want your weight. Some teachers like it centered over both feet and some like it more on the front foot.

  • correction "devant" means "front", "arriere" means behind....

  • George Balanchine would be ashamed

  • I can do a pirroute but I can't keep the pirroute going I only can do one in a row

  • @IndigoCat17 lol i could only do one now a year later i can only do three. just gotta practice, some people learn faster than others, well faster than me in this case. lol

  • @IndigoCat17 Make sure you focus on a spot and keep on focusing on that spot, I use a spinny chair to help myself get into the habit, this may not be your problem. Make sure you pull yourself up. Make sure you tighten up the muscles in your body. Get used to the postions and you should be able to do it, you just need to practise loads. I realised I could for 4 pirouettes in a hall, but not in my front room because my instincts were not letting me do so because of the objects that were around me

  • what a mess

  • thank you so much! this really helped me... maybe i'll make my dance team:D<3

  • this is very helpful to me i am trying to win a ballet award at my dancer school this year so hopefully this will help me :3

ps. i love those stickers on the wall!

  • i think it's a very nice beginner instruction. VERY HELPFUL, thanks.

  • well, those who cant do, teach . . . . i suppose

  • @LAWESTBY Sorry but making snarky remarks doesn't make you anymore knowledgeable about dance. If you have something constructive to say then of course, voice your opinions, otherwise stop being so rude (by the way, I is always capital) :)

  • Good instruction, awful execution.

  • @minitay12 It's an INSTRUCTION video. Not an execution video.

  • Why so many dislikes, this video is really helpful

  • i love it thank you! <3

  • OMG I didn't like it at all!!

  • Her weight placement should be more forward.

  • I can't do it that way! I do it like the other way round! :(

  • Turning with you foot on the front side or back of the knee is not " what your ballet teacher says" it depends on the syllabus. I don't have a problem with her dancing and I'm not against her but she is obviously not at a level where she should be demonstrating technique over YouTube.

  • Why she show one time only, but not more?? No good lol.

  • parle trop

  • If you're looking for brilliant ballet advice and teaching on youtube maybe you should reconsider.

It's much better if you can get that advice and teaching in person, especially if you're looking for a career in ballet.

Also, who cares how she pronounces things. It's a free video!

  • It's youtube assholes, get over perfection. looking for that? go elsewhere and I'm sure that isn't your moms!

  • thank you thank you sooo much for teaching my this the is the easiet way so far of all the videos I've watched

  • SHE IS JUST SHOWING A PIRUETTE NOT TEACHING FRENCH

  • Devant is pronounced De-von NOT De-vonT

Man you suck at ballet just by looking aty those postions! Third arms are too high, legs in fourth not turned out, you finish awkwardly.

You tell us to sspot and you're not spotting yourself lol! YHour heads too slow..

How are your students good when the teacher sucks?? i was better att the age of 8! And thats only a singel pirouette and u suck

  • @PokemonTCG88 If you think you are better then why are you watching this video??

  • @PokemonTCG88 If you were better at the age of 8, then why are you watching this video? You must be fantastic now. & Obviously she's not a french teacher. . Just because we use french terms in dance does NOT mean we must pronounce them perfectly. GTFO.

  • @PokemonTCG88

    1. That's actually a variation of third that you may use after you finish a pirouette.

    2. She's pregnant and her feet are probably in serious pain.

    3. You were definitely not this good when you were eight. And how could you tell from one pirouette?

    4. You had multiple errors in your typing. Also, devant is pronounced duh-VAHN according to the American Ballet Theatre Dictionary.

  • Devant is pronounced De-von NOT De-vonT

How are your students good when the teacher sucks??

  • Her second is molto brutto.

  • what is this?! im 12, i can do wayyyyyyyy better than that. if i had her for a teacher, my ballet career is ruined

  • @swalewidget If you're 'wayyyyyyyy better' then why are you watching this video??

  • She doesn't teach there anymore...

  • shes terrible dont teach dance on a world wide website if u dont have good technique

  • dont have shs doing good sometimes i forget to spot to no big deal unless your performing O.0 lol

  • woahhh arms are way too high.

  • I love how there are videos teaching teachers how to teach...... sad

  • we aren't stupid....you don't have to over pronounce the terms....unless you really just don't know how to hell the pronounce them :-o

then I feel sorry for you.

  • U SUCK

  • Its passe devant (silent t) and passe deriere!!!!! shouldnt she know !

  • woowww ı wıll try that ...

  • I want her as my teacher. She seems so nice. Lolz

  • What's wrong with this chick's body.... maybe its her shirt.

  • funny how she goes on about spotting so much and then she doesn't actually spot :(

  • She does look like she's expecting ... maybe this isn't the best time to demonstrate, since her center of gravity has shifted (i.e. she came down on her supporting leg before finishing a single pirouette.) Except for forgetting the word "derriere," she did give some decent instruction, though....

  • DEVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN.... U.U

  • lol devanT

  • I find it funny to read comments about how french is a weird language when written as I tend to forget about that. It's interesting to think about the way others may perceive your language... You're right, it's not easy to guess how to pronounce certain words as we have many silent letters plus many letters combinations to form certain sounds... It makes me even prouder to speak french :-)

  • SHE HAS NO KNOWLEDGE OF FRENCH OR BALLET AT AAAAAAAAAAALL

  • haha ,,,you can totally tell she dont do ballet...i mean her hands how she holds her body,,her feett..this is jsut the start :S

  • @TheLittleScreening EXACTLY

  • Don't mind if the T isn't silent. French may be beautiful when spoken, but looks dumb and redundant on paper. I don't blame her for saying it how it's written.

  • @Zayashuku it only looks dumb on paper to us english speakers, because we pronounce every letter most of the time. And in my opinion, it does matter, and she should know how to pronounce ballet - related things properly if she's "TEACHING" it. It has to be correct, and french has to be respected. lol i sound retarded

  • @Zayashuku

Dumb? Do you know how "dumb" the word though looks on paper?

  • @loisen Yes, and I said knife like, KUH-NAIF when I was younger, too. English borrows heavily from other languages, mostly European Anglo. But it's not like we make a habit of using a string of letters with no sounds. French is pretty much words with tons of letters but makes one noise. Des Moines. WHO WOULD READ THAT DEH MOIN? Des Peres!? DEH PER!? Like I said, beautiful when spoken, DUMB on paper.

  • @Zayashuku

That has nothing to do with looking dumb on paper. People who understand french read it the way it's written.

  • @loisen lol that's like saying, people who understand Chinese understand the characters. Usually, when you see something you can understand why it's being done. I'm OBVIOUSLY a person who doesn't understand French, and can NOT figure out why so many letters produce such little sound. Spanish, Italian, and French all have common ground EXCEPT the extra letters. So if you don't mind, a short explanation of why that happens in French would be nice is what I'm getting at Sir or Ma'am :D

  • she never even spun

  • Passe DevanT? I thought it was pronounced "Passe Devan" i thought the "T" was silent...

  • @iluvthetheatre it is. lol

  • @iluvthetheatre it is silent. it's french. French people write silent letters alot

  • T is silent !! ohhh dear. (:

  • she sounds like shes talking to 3 yr olds.... and also no pirouette is passe back thats only pecays. And retiray is passe staying. its a passe when you turn because you're not balancing in the position. And yes I'm aware my spelling is incorrect

  • @char1089 who cares 'bout ur spelling everything u said was absolutely RIGHT

  • she sounds like shes talking to 3 yr olds....

  • @char1089 Not weird since it looks like she`s pregnant..

  • I'm learning how to do pirouettes, and it is more difficult than it seems, my pirouettes still suck so bad :P but it's really fun

  • I can do better ^^

  • devant the t is silent, and you said devant twice not derrier

  • this is god awful.....someone needs to give her a mini-tutorial on the directions in ballet because she was completely off in this video :(

  • oh my god. this is terrible. YIKES!

  • I miss being a ballerina!!

  • you can do passe devant, in the front, or passe devant, which is in the back. were gonna do passe DEVANT.

  • When she said "we're going to turn in passe devant" I couldn't figured out whether she ment the front or the back...

  • BAHHAHAHAHAH

  • i used to over think pirouettes and would totally suck at them :(

  • você explica melhor esse passo que a minha professora de ballet!! adorei seu trabalho.

  • thank you im doing this in mai dance an i couldnt get it but u helped ty! :D btw wear ballet clothes while doing ballet O_O

  • I've practiced ballet before... i had to leave ballet because of the conservatory. i don't have money to continue doing it now... You're videos are reminding me of my classes :D thanks :D

  • ooomg horrible arms, i'm sorry but that was awful :(

  • and remember to wear ballet shoes while performing ballet.

  • LMAO thats not a pirouette! She's funny!

  • 1:49 ... it's the piruette

  • She makes it look like the easiest move ever

  • Thank you! Now I can see my errors!! :)

  • im currently doing foundation intermediate. something like grade 6, and i can't do a smooth pirouette like yours and we're moving on to doubles. i always tend to loose my balance. i've tried it with force which my teacher told me to, but i just can't. my feet doesn't go below the knee (i can't spell it) and if i do, i get some kind of a strong push and i fall immediately. i can't spot to. my teacher told me to move my head quickly. and i tried, i turned, but i wasn't spotting anything. help me!

  • @keysawesomewife i used to do ballet, but i really don't know much, except that i did have trouble with spotting too. my teacher just told me to practice spotting constantly. like just walking around your house, just do simple turns while you're walking and practice spotting so you can get the feel of it. you just need to learn to do it automatically so you can focus on turning. if you do it constantly, it will come naturally to you soon. hope i could help a little :)

  • um excuse me but she said NOT to roll ur feet but at 1:32 thats EXACTLY wat she did! how can u not listen to ur own instructions???

  • umm that's not passe devant. and your arms are terrible. and you have no turnout. don't teach other people if you don't even know what you're talking about. kthanks

  • @TheGymlovers1 OUCH! Lol

  • this is a jazz pirouette

  • idgaf what anybody says.

I'm learning to do it better than before, & that's all that matters.

she's doing her part for me.

if you know how to already , good for you.

    but don't talk shit.

that's unprofessional and lets us know what kind of person you are.

but we still don't want to hear it. kthxbai.

  • guys your all so mean...... ( apart from iloveNickandShawn) the poor womans only trying to help... if you guys are so good then why bother watching it? :/

  • @foxsinsox soo uh why were you looking up "how to do Pirouettes" again?

you seem to know it all already.

    get a life.

  • because it was sent to me by a friend who was pissed at how wrong this girl is.

  • @foxsinsox

well you and your friends need to calm down. its just a dance move.

  • that's great that you think i'm the only one on here that doesn't approve of the video. read the rest of the comments. i'm calm, i just think she shouldn't be instructing people on how to do ballet pirouettes when she's doing a somewhat poorly pulled off jazz pirouette instead.

  • @ foxsinsox, well if it pisses you off so much then dont look at it , because i dont really think people care about how amaazing you think you are or not and to be honest i think shes a really good help and a lot more usful then your so called 'corrections' if you wanna criticise someone make sure its yourself cos judging by your list you need to make a few corrections of your own so why dont you run along now and do that? give us all some peace . and haha u rock iloveNickandShawn ! :)

  • @foxsinsox if u wanna tell ppl the proper way of doing a pirouette make a video urself

  • Wow, shittest dancer ever!

  • her arms are to high on the prep.

  • if u wanna see just the turn it is at 1:49

  • "Low fifth"? And what's with the smock? Don't pronounce the final consonant in French unless there is an 'e' after it.

  • Gotta love the american pronounciation of ballet terms... haha

  • She can't do that

  • haha lol devant = front, derrière = back

  • ok some advice for the lady in the video. Since it's BALLET:

    - please turn out ur feet more (esp the front one)

    - Ur hands are way too high and way too straight.

    - Ur leaning on ur working leg, that's why u fall back, ur suppose to have ur weight on ur supporting leg, try landing in 5th until u get it right?

    - stronger arms needed

    - pull up more

    - ur not spotting fast enough

other than that, it's a good lesson to listen to

  • i thought you're supposed to land with your feet forward ?

  • thats a jazz turn(pirourette)

  • 1:14 - 1:22

did she say passe devant is in front AND back?

    lol

  • yeaah she did :L isn't back devant and front devoir or sumin ? and she pronounced the "t" aswell :|

  • yeah thats what it sounded like to me

  • I want to know how to do a pirouette and keep going like when you keep turning for a period of time, i always lose my balance because i dont do ballet. And how to keep turning, people when they are turning put their foot on the ground every time they finish a turn and i dont know how to do that either. :(

  • when you say passe devant, the 't' is silent...

  • @bwoodsfinest she is american lol

  • @Bringourdoomsday666

i'm american born as well??what's your point...granted i speak 4 languages including french but still, culture has nothing to do with it...its just learning how to say it correctly...

  • I didnt mean it that way,but sorry if it offended you in some way..I just meant she isn't french so its not uncommon for her to mispronounce it ...nevermind its just youtube who cares...

  • @bwoodsfinest i know, right? this lady is SO good at french.

HELLO lady, ballet has a silent t, so maybe it's french, and maybe she could have found out how to pronounce things if she's talking about ballet? SO LAME

  • @bwoodsfinest yeah im in a french school the 't' is totally silent

  • okay emily i have a question last year was my first year of ballet and i had my pirouette's and now this year i dont have them anymore.... wat should i do

  • practice!

you could practice by following the instruction in the video, also some tips to have good pirouetts are:

-when you push off imagine a string pulling you pu to the celing (i know it sounds wierd but it really does help)

    - balence is key for pirouetts so practice a lot of releves on a hard flat surface to strengthen the ankle, and also just balence in releve and pase as long as you can either lightly holding onto something or in the middle of the floor with hands in first

  • (i ran out of room sry)

-make sure your body is very board like, as in not flopping over or leaning a certain way,

    -tighten abs and leg muscles,

-and also keep your arms strong, not flimsy

  • thank you for that, emily. it helped quite a lot.
