high strength roof pillar. Cars only a few years ago started doing such things! People want to talk about volvo being an pioneer for safety yet they tend to forget Benz was always in the forefront of safety.
i would rather buy one of these benzez than an S 500, 550 600 or amg benz, they are plastic and too much computers cars are meant to be DRIVEN not for computers in them or other dumb gadgets! Mercedes was Mercedes when they built these TANKS not when they built these plastic luxury benzes and once u hit a pot hole at 40 mph ull feel like u hit a war road.
love it my dad had a 1976 280 sedan lpg and he gave it to my brother cant wait till im 18 and have my drivers licence :) im from europe yes you have to be 18 :(
I've got a silver 84 230ce had it for 7 years, a pleasure to drive and very reliable and responsive when it needs to be, the car has character unlike the cars we see on the roads nowadays.
@DamnStraightM35A2 That's too bad. Why was it never offered in Germany with a diesel engine? Particularly if they offered a diesel in the sedan and touring models.
Because at the time in the US, we had government Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards to adhere to. By selling more diesels here and therefore getting better corporate fuel economy (all cars sold averaged together MPG-wise) Mercedes had to pay less fines (because most of the cars they sold did NOT get good fuel mileage).
There were no such standards in Europe at the time and a diesel coupe was probably considered undesirable.
The sedans seem more practical for those with a family or taxi cab driver. But if you have small children and don't want them to try to get out of a moving vehicle, buy a coupe.

Having an airbag in a car back in 1982 was like having GPS system in a car in 1995.

They forgot to mention the 300CD. Unless it wasn't available in Germany, and much of Europe with the 3.0 litre diesel engine.

@Seattlecarnut
It wasn't.

@DamnStraightM35A2 It's too bad that diesel is more expensive to use than it was 30-40+ yrs ago.
