FANTASTIC - I was still a teenager when this came out and I remember it well now but to be honest I had completely forgotten about this song. What is called rockabilly just never kept going after Elvis went commercial. Thanks for post this sond and taking me back to 1959 again.
Marshal generally played a Kay bass, now Englehart, he is playing whats called slap bass were you keep the rhythm by slapping the bass and plucking the strings at the same time, it can be easy or very intricate, he still influences bass players (like me) today
Hi, you're very young and though you like that kind of music. You knew it, and I didn't know that guitar style. Great. Thanks for your the information.
@Suva1987 The is an Upright bass. Bass can be played either way. I have a 72 year old aunt who can play it the upright way. She has one of those huge things. Dickey Smothers used to play one like a guitar for comedic effect on his show in the 60's.
Im not really into Johnny Cash. But I sure am glad its an older song and someone that can actually sing rather then something new like that black eyed pea's shite!
The first time I ever heard Johnny Cash was in 1958 on a transistor radio. I was 12 years old. I was picking oranges in Downey,California and had to stop to hear this song out. I've been in awe of him ever since. "Guess Things Happen That Way" is my favorite Johnny Cash recording. That man and his music is timeless. Oh, so good.
My mother's secretary/friend's cousin was one of the Tennessee Two. Might anyone know which one he was? I'm not sure his last name, but her's is Griffin. I think that's the spelling.-
There was marshal grant I believe and Luther Perkins... Maybe? I have no idea.... hehe I know whats his face Carl perkins was involved somehow too... Look it up hehe
I Love this song and its strange ,somehow, but the live version is the best, got somethin that is hard to describe in common words. This will truly stand the test of time without beeing forgotten man!
If you are born in 1932 and die in 2003 you are 71! Only take away 71 from 2003 and you will get 1932! He should have been 76 years not this februari if he would have still be alive! He is alive with his songs forever!
the girls are goin' crazy. they're like IT'S JOHNNY CASH!!!!
