  • Wow, You are an idiot

  • @tklindt I don't see you putting up nearly one thousand videos to help others in this industry.

  • Hey Brian..nice job on the video. I am currently looking for a way to control the the 14 DMX lights I use for the dance floor along with the 12 par38's I have for my room uplighting....would you recommend this program for someone like me since I will have a laptop specifically for controlling the lights....Thank and keep up the great videos.....

  • do you know if you can use the Mydmx dongle with any other dmx software?

    Thanx,

  • I am haveing trouble trying to get he scenes to play one after another without the use of a mouse. the next scene command does not seem to even work. I bouthte the mydmx from adj and having 10 dmx lights to programs. i can make secens no problems just cant get them to do the next command. I need help please. Just replace my elation 192, the mydmx is much easier.

    stevenkaraoke@yahoo.com

  • could you post a video showing how to set up a midi controller to mydmx?

  • I am new at being a dj and dmx, I jsut bougth 12 dmx lights and the elation 192 board but not getting the full operation of my light that is advertise on youtube. my email is stevenkaraoke@comcast.net i could use some help!!!!!

  • how are you soppose to connect for example 10 lights into the one dmx input in the my dmx

  • @MrTan2013 by running them in serial setup as in chained without a splitter.

  • can i used this for my par can 64, not the led one :(

  • hey Brian, are you still taking questions on this??? i like ur tutorial. just got myDMX today.. wondering if u still help out.. thanks dude.

  • I downloaded the trial, but for my shows, i cant time how long a scene will last for. Can you do this manually?

  • hey in this scan libary, is there a laserworld folder ?!

need to know cause want to plug in my laser ^^

  • i dont mind using pc DMX software , ive used chauvet show express, freestyler 3 and martin light jockey. but tbh i cant help prefering my zero 88 fat frog desk. unfortunatly theres not always space for it when on site.

  • great video. it helped out alot

  • If I have normal Par cans, would I still need a dmx controller to then hook the dmx controller to MyDMX then to the computer?

  • With normal Par cans, you need dimmer packs, which you plug the fixtures into. The Dimmer packs you'd need to work with the 'My DMX' are DMX dimmers (and some will not be reconized by 'My DMX'), not MicroPlex or MPX. (the Old School way)

  • i think the last macro is to scroll the internal programs, no?

  • i believe you are talking about the word DONGLE ...... cheers

  • yupyup, dongles may look like average USB flashdrives, but they're virtual keys

  • great videos for beginners like me Thank you!!!

  • Loving the work. But is thier a way to add 2 fixtures to on channel, i.e dimmer? I have found a way, but it's a little sledgehammerish...?

  • Ok I just like to create lighting shows, and stuff. Can I just download the software and just use it to create shows on my computer?

  • Comment removed

  • i like this software

  • how you add a new fixture..!!!>? i have two KAM lasers and a smoke machine .. its driving me crazy....

  • Comment removed

  • Works this controler with the EL-40G Laser to?

  • Thanks for your videos Brian, My MYDMX came yesterday and your vids helped me no end to get started and find my feet in no time at all.

  • Is there a way to add a fixture that is not listed??

  • Does this work on a MAC???

  • If you run Parallels Desktop for Mac for 80 bucks

  • do you run this on your Mac, or did you ever do it? I really want to get this, but I am a MAC user, and if I get Parallels, do I have to buy windows as well? PLEASE RESPOND!!! Is the program reliable?? Thanks- Ken

  • Comment removed

  • i believe you, but on the site it says it can run windows, but requires windows, which is not included. Do I haver to buy windows, (vista or XP) separately?

  • Nice video, can you please tell me were can i get the demo of this software

  • Does MyDmx have 3d visualizer

  • Yes, did you watch Part 2 of this video?

  • No, I havent yet, but will do, Thanks.

  • very important series of videos brian as this is the subject a lot of people stumble at, well done! je

  • brian thank you so much for posting this video.. it helps me a lot on deciding to get one of mydmx software, with your detailed explanation on how to use it.. actually i watch your video first before i bought my lights or equiptments.. i hope to learn more from your stuff THANK YOU SO MUCH

  • Briann we are waiting on more videos on this item. lol Are you still playing with it or give up or what? We have been thinking about getting one for our club. We just bought two Chauvet MinSpots and one American DJ Revo III and got them mainly because of the info you posted in your videos. I love the RevoIII we got in two weeks ago but we just ordered the Minspots and waiting for their arrival. THANKS AGAIN

    DJ Joppie

  • again, another very useful video. Still helping me no end. Thanks

  • Heres a tip for all of you. If you know how to use Daslight, then you know how to use this! Its the same but with things moved about abit! It a hell of alot cheaper.

  • where is the editor profile

  • looks like a nice piece of software compared to others i've tried to use...

BTW it's an interface/"Dongle" meaning you cant use the software without the hardware...similar to ProTools and Avid.

  • At the moment I have four Color Splash Jr's set up behind me and i have then connected together to my DMX. But when i open my DMX, it opens in demo mode AHH!!! i have all the right dip switches set and idk why i the software won't recognize the hardware. I'm about to pull my hair out, not really but i would love some help. Or a lot of help.

  • looks great can u use it on scanners?and do u just need the box and software?

  • Thanks,, there is very little actual information out there on how to work with DMX

  • @ 7:30 in the vid you used the macro then strobe and the faded it. You left the strobe on high and turned the fade on why did using the fade stop the strobe? You can't have colors fade and strobe? I'm sure you can it seams like a simple task... just curious

    Ck

  • Hi does thise wirk with any light or does it have to be with ADJ only.... thanx

  • his will work with any DMX-512 fixture. even dimmer/relay/switch packs that are controllable via dmx.

  • I'm stuck between two controllers. The DMX Operator 192 or My DMX. I really like MY DMX and it seems ten times better but I'm a fan of sound active. =/ Does My DMX have sound trigger?? Or something that i can make my light show go along with my music? By the way your videos have helped me a lot! Thanks

  • I have both. If you want sound active and don't mind a 3 space rack unit (a little more actually because you'll need some clearence on top for the DMX cable), then you may want to go with the 192

  • On your video, you pressed play and a song along with a light show started, is this so you can design a light show to go along with a song?

  • Yeah, you can do that if you get your timing perfect

  • I have the time. ha I'm thirteen and don't do much but DJ. I just ordered 4 ColorSplash Jr's and I want 4 scanners but I'm not sure which ones. I'm looking to spend around 1,000 for the scanners. Any sugestions??

  • Man that is going to be time consuming. check out the deluxe scan system. the retail price is a lil higher than your budget but that is retail. i assume youll be using my dmx? sincerely, James.

  • Also if your lights have a sound active mode via a DMX value then you can go with my dmx. which lights do you have? or plan on purchasing in the future?

  • Bwood, on my dmx there is no audio triggering i believe. i can double check but for now i believe the only audio trig you would get is if the lights you have, have a sound active mode via a DMX trait in there channel layout. Sincerely,

  • Does this work with Windows Vista Home Basic &/or Home Premium?

  • It should. I'll have to look that one up for you

  • Yes this should work with all windows operating systems unless you are running a 64 bit OS. Compu live and i believe MY DMX are not compatible with a 64 bit OS yet. sincerely, james.

  • Thanks guys...

  • Thanks man don't stop doing the videos.....You have been helping me a great deal and thanks alot !

  • Thanks man don't stop doing the videos.....You have been helping me a great deal and thanks alot !

  • How much would it cost in australian dollars?

  • Looks like its somthing you would hafto play around with a fear bit hay.

  • Ce logiciel existe t-il pour MAC

  • Ce logiciel existe t-il pour MAC

  • Nice

    Wanted to know if

it is necessary to plug the lights for setting up?

does it need the laptop to use it in a gig?

does it have a 3d visualizer?

  • You can use the 3D visualizer to set up your lights without plugging anything in. You will need your computer to run the lights.

  • i think it is funny how you guys call it a DMX mixer! HA! never heard it called that. dmx controller! lol peace all! jingles.

  • hey bri

the dmx output goes out to the dmx mixer or to the lights ?

  • I misspoke on the video. On the little interface box, that is the DMX output. This will run into your first light. Then, a cable will run out of the first light into the second light, etc. I'll be doing a video on this soon.

  • The DMX mixer in this case is actually on the computer itself. An external mixer isn't nessessary.

  • that is hot man !!! is this device robust - does it last long ?

  • It love you long time :)

  • hey, that looks like the interface from Daslight, if you look at the button 'FX' theres all kind of effects you can do with your lights automaticly. Also you can easily make scences. I have a Velleman DMX Kit (Kit meaning i had to build it) And i use FreeStyler (also comes with Visuliser) with my 3 smart scanners, and USB DMX rocks. I have 2 laptops. one for music (2gig) and one for lighting (256mb ram) because to be honest it really doesnt need much.

    and its so handy.

  • i love watching guys at nighclubs do the lights. it looks really fun :)

  • That's how I got hooked into lighting - tis fun! Especially with software control.

  • Those switches are binary which is easy you just push them forward. 1=1 2=01 3=11 4=001 5=101 6=011 7=111 8=0001 See the pattern :) Also they go in doubles when going full forward. 2=01 4=001 8=0001 16=00001 32=000001 Tho this might not be helpful anymore for Brian since he has application to show that info but maybe others, basic lesson on binary numbers.
  • you should do a video on this, Syntse!

  • Hmm maybe I will if I find some equipment with switches or something. :)

  • The reason I suggest this is because thoes numbers up there still mean nothing to me. HA! I would like to get my head around it but I really did ride the short bus when it comes to such things

  • YO j hit me up for lessons if u want bro!

  • Nice, you may have to teach me! j

  • Hopefully the videos will help. This is all pretty new stuff to me so it may take me some time to get all of the bells and whistles sorted. Wish me luck!

  • Hey all. this is jingles8302 i helped brian learn the MY DMX software. I also work for elation doing the Compu Live software for elation lighting the sister company of ADJ. so if anyone has any question about this or compu live please feel free to go to the american DJ website or the elation website and join the forums and i wil help you out! good job brian! sincerely, james!

  • the program looks sweet! i like the dmx universe - i always forget what light is what address. and a pretty good price too.

  • That is a VERY cool feature! I'm such an idiot with this stuff that in the traditional way of assigning fixtures, I end up giving them all something stupid like 16 channels each when they only need somewhere between 4 and 12 depending on the fixture. Although, the new ADJ lights are assigned with a digital readout which is WAY cool!

  • ill have to pick that up. hey how did you do that zoom thing when you were showing off the faders?

  • It's a feature on my Microsoft mouse

  • thanks.

  • Awesome Vid, very helpful! Can't wait for more from ya on this subject! Thanks.

  • I am starting to reconsider getting a controller... How much was it again?

  • I think it's just under $300

  • Nice I love it

I would like to see a video if you can with it with multiple lights (like a revo or vue, and your scanning leds you have now) To see how that there sets up, because there is only one dmx slot on the controller hardware.

Anyways I love it and can't wait to see more of the software, as I am looking into getting some dmx led lights, and this might end up being my way of controlling them. Do you have any prices because I can't find them anywhere.

    thanks bri

    - Josh

  • I'll try to get into that in the next video. Basically, what happens is each light has a DMX IN and DMX OUT. It's a chain of lights basically. With the right cables and without exceeding 512 DMX channels, you can add as many lights as you wish to the chain!

  • DMX lights are daisy chained, so it would travel from the myDMX to the first fixture then from first fixture to second etc.

You are right though, most software DMX solutions do have 2 DMX slots, but one is an input port allowing you to connect a hardware controller to override the software controller. It's a *very* nice feature!

  • i just downloaded the soffwere for the dim swichs but ant got the kam star cluster laza on or the led star ball dmx on to that a shame

  • Right now, they are listing products available in America. You can build your own profiles as well, I just haven't learned how yet.

  • o that may be why thanks

  • We'll try to address that as soon as I can sort it out :)

  • thanks so much brian that be a great help to me

  • Thanks for making my decision into purchasing lights an even more difficult decision ;-)

    Great vid as always!!!

  • Oh it's my pleasure... HA!

  • Well Done Brian!!!

  • Hey where you been, man!

  • I was busy working :) will upload some videos soon. Thanks for asking. Keep it up :)

  • is american dj the same as american audio

  • American DJ and American Audio are both part of the same company

  • myDMX has been discussed a lot on prodj dot com. The biggest frustration with myDMX so far is the fact that there isn't any live control of playback speed, which is a very important feature for DJs specifically.

For anyone looking at getting into software control, make sure you do your research, there's lots of software out there from $60 dongles (Enttec) to Martin Light Jockey ($1000+).

I'm going to evaluate myDMX myself and contrast it to Chauvet ShowXpress (my favorite) and Freestyler (free)

  • Remember, the greatest advantage of software is that you can try it before you buy it to make sure it works for you. The following DMX software all have different pros and cons (from cheapest to most expensive):

    Freestyler

    Lightfactory

    PCDJ DMX

    ADJ myDMX

    Lumidesk

    Daslight

    Chauvet ShowXpress/Sweetlight

    Elation Compu

    Martin Light Jockey

  • Remember, the greatest advantage to software is that you can try it before you buy it. Each program has advantages and disadvantages, the following are all DMX software (from cheapest to most expensive). Freestyler, PCDJ DMX, Lightfactory, Daslight, Lumidesk, Chauvet ShowXpress/Sweetlight, Elation Compu, Martin Light Jockey

  • Jingles is a lighting pro. You can also chat with him on the American DJ and Elation forums.

  • As long as your chatting about ADJ or Elation lighting. Naturally, he has his biases ;)

  • On the forums, this would be true. About programming in general, he still knows his stuff.

  • hey bri, im REALLY new to this whole dmx and i like this software idea. just wondering, does it use alot of RAM? if im using this on the same laptop as my dj software will it cause anything to freeze? is it expensive?

    great vid btw!

  • Well tonight I had my normal desktop running along with Skype and my DMX. My CPU usage was between 4 and 10% which isn't too bad really (this computer is an old one at that). I think this can probably co-exist just fine with most DJ mixing programs on the same machine :)

  • 'When it comes to mathematical equations, i rode the shortbus'

Lol, that makes two of us Brian; i can't do anything above basic math anymore. 4 years out of any math class will do that to you :-p

  • Hell, I sucked when I was IN my math class! Too busy thinking about chicks and music I guess. HA!

  • Well what's wrong with thinking about chicks and music ;-p.

Thanks again for the vid bri; i think i've finally found my DMX solution, controller wise

  • Anytime, man. I think that I MAY actually have this program sorted out so more videos to come in the next few days!

  • OOps almost forgot Thanks Bri & Many Many thanks jingles8302!!!!!!!!!

  • Holy Cannoli!!!!!!! That Is Awsome Brian. ADJ is putting on the smackdown...

  • Looks handy gotta say. Then comes the resource question. If you gonna run that with your mixing software will it start to crash your laptop or will you need 2 laptops to run the lighting on one and mixing software on another one.

  • I was playing with my DMX and Mixmeister at the same time last night and had no problems :)

  • Just for fun and with your very question in mind, I checked my CPU resources while running a light show I put together tonight. With my normal desktop, Skype and my DMX all running at the same time, I was only using between 4 and 10%. I didn't think that was too bad at all, This machine is over 3 years old too.

  • That sounds nice in terms of cpu resource use. Normally I would think that running dj software with all your music in it and having DMX on auto mode running some ready made programs for lights would consume some cpu power especially as the DMX software looked quite heavy but think people who are thinking of getting that are happy to hear that it's not the case.

  • That was my first big concern too. The last thing I wanted to do was replace my DMX controller with a second laptop! HA!

  • OMG! Me wants it... my preeeeeciouuuussss =) Do you think it is/will be available in Europe?

Please make more videos on this lovley thing soon! Max fron Sweden
