Hey Brian..nice job on the video. I am currently looking for a way to control the the 14 DMX lights I use for the dance floor along with the 12 par38's I have for my room uplighting....would you recommend this program for someone like me since I will have a laptop specifically for controlling the lights....Thank and keep up the great videos.....
I am haveing trouble trying to get he scenes to play one after another without the use of a mouse. the next scene command does not seem to even work. I bouthte the mydmx from adj and having 10 dmx lights to programs. i can make secens no problems just cant get them to do the next command. I need help please. Just replace my elation 192, the mydmx is much easier.

i dont mind using pc DMX software , ive used chauvet show express, freestyler 3 and martin light jockey. but tbh i cant help prefering my zero 88 fat frog desk. unfortunatly theres not always space for it when on site.
With normal Par cans, you need dimmer packs, which you plug the fixtures into. The Dimmer packs you'd need to work with the 'My DMX' are DMX dimmers (and some will not be reconized by 'My DMX'), not MicroPlex or MPX. (the Old School way)
do you run this on your Mac, or did you ever do it? I really want to get this, but I am a MAC user, and if I get Parallels, do I have to buy windows as well? PLEASE RESPOND!!! Is the program reliable?? Thanks- Ken

Briann we are waiting on more videos on this item. lol Are you still playing with it or give up or what? We have been thinking about getting one for our club. We just bought two Chauvet MinSpots and one American DJ Revo III and got them mainly because of the info you posted in your videos. I love the RevoIII we got in two weeks ago but we just ordered the Minspots and waiting for their arrival. THANKS AGAIN
Heres a tip for all of you. If you know how to use Daslight, then you know how to use this! Its the same but with things moved about abit! It a hell of alot cheaper.
At the moment I have four Color Splash Jr's set up behind me and i have then connected together to my DMX. But when i open my DMX, it opens in demo mode AHH!!! i have all the right dip switches set and idk why i the software won't recognize the hardware. I'm about to pull my hair out, not really but i would love some help. Or a lot of help.
@ 7:30 in the vid you used the macro then strobe and the faded it. You left the strobe on high and turned the fade on why did using the fade stop the strobe? You can't have colors fade and strobe? I'm sure you can it seams like a simple task... just curious
I'm stuck between two controllers. The DMX Operator 192 or My DMX. I really like MY DMX and it seems ten times better but I'm a fan of sound active. =/ Does My DMX have sound trigger?? Or something that i can make my light show go along with my music? By the way your videos have helped me a lot! Thanks
I have both. If you want sound active and don't mind a 3 space rack unit (a little more actually because you'll need some clearence on top for the DMX cable), then you may want to go with the 192
I have the time. ha I'm thirteen and don't do much but DJ. I just ordered 4 ColorSplash Jr's and I want 4 scanners but I'm not sure which ones. I'm looking to spend around 1,000 for the scanners. Any sugestions??
Man that is going to be time consuming. check out the deluxe scan system. the retail price is a lil higher than your budget but that is retail. i assume youll be using my dmx? sincerely, James.
Also if your lights have a sound active mode via a DMX value then you can go with my dmx. which lights do you have? or plan on purchasing in the future?
Bwood, on my dmx there is no audio triggering i believe. i can double check but for now i believe the only audio trig you would get is if the lights you have, have a sound active mode via a DMX trait in there channel layout. Sincerely,
Yes this should work with all windows operating systems unless you are running a 64 bit OS. Compu live and i believe MY DMX are not compatible with a 64 bit OS yet. sincerely, james.
I misspoke on the video. On the little interface box, that is the DMX output. This will run into your first light. Then, a cable will run out of the first light into the second light, etc. I'll be doing a video on this soon.
hey, that looks like the interface from Daslight, if you look at the button 'FX' theres all kind of effects you can do with your lights automaticly. Also you can easily make scences. I have a Velleman DMX Kit (Kit meaning i had to build it) And i use FreeStyler (also comes with Visuliser) with my 3 smart scanners, and USB DMX rocks. I have 2 laptops. one for music (2gig) and one for lighting (256mb ram) because to be honest it really doesnt need much.
Those switches are binary which is easy you just push them forward. 1=1 2=01 3=11 4=001 5=101 6=011 7=111 8=0001 See the pattern :) Also they go in doubles when going full forward. 2=01 4=001 8=0001 16=00001 32=000001 Tho this might not be helpful anymore for Brian since he has application to show that info but maybe others, basic lesson on binary numbers.
The reason I suggest this is because thoes numbers up there still mean nothing to me. HA! I would like to get my head around it but I really did ride the short bus when it comes to such things
Hopefully the videos will help. This is all pretty new stuff to me so it may take me some time to get all of the bells and whistles sorted. Wish me luck!
Hey all. this is jingles8302 i helped brian learn the MY DMX software. I also work for elation doing the Compu Live software for elation lighting the sister company of ADJ. so if anyone has any question about this or compu live please feel free to go to the american DJ website or the elation website and join the forums and i wil help you out! good job brian! sincerely, james!
That is a VERY cool feature! I'm such an idiot with this stuff that in the traditional way of assigning fixtures, I end up giving them all something stupid like 16 channels each when they only need somewhere between 4 and 12 depending on the fixture. Although, the new ADJ lights are assigned with a digital readout which is WAY cool!
I would like to see a video if you can with it with multiple lights (like a revo or vue, and your scanning leds you have now) To see how that there sets up, because there is only one dmx slot on the controller hardware.
Anyways I love it and can't wait to see more of the software, as I am looking into getting some dmx led lights, and this might end up being my way of controlling them. Do you have any prices because I can't find them anywhere.
I'll try to get into that in the next video. Basically, what happens is each light has a DMX IN and DMX OUT. It's a chain of lights basically. With the right cables and without exceeding 512 DMX channels, you can add as many lights as you wish to the chain!
DMX lights are daisy chained, so it would travel from the myDMX to the first fixture then from first fixture to second etc.
You are right though, most software DMX solutions do have 2 DMX slots, but one is an input port allowing you to connect a hardware controller to override the software controller. It's a *very* nice feature!
myDMX has been discussed a lot on prodj dot com. The biggest frustration with myDMX so far is the fact that there isn't any live control of playback speed, which is a very important feature for DJs specifically.
For anyone looking at getting into software control, make sure you do your research, there's lots of software out there from $60 dongles (Enttec) to Martin Light Jockey ($1000+).
I'm going to evaluate myDMX myself and contrast it to Chauvet ShowXpress (my favorite) and Freestyler (free)
Remember, the greatest advantage of software is that you can try it before you buy it to make sure it works for you. The following DMX software all have different pros and cons (from cheapest to most expensive):

hey bri, im REALLY new to this whole dmx and i like this software idea. just wondering, does it use alot of RAM? if im using this on the same laptop as my dj software will it cause anything to freeze? is it expensive?
Well tonight I had my normal desktop running along with Skype and my DMX. My CPU usage was between 4 and 10% which isn't too bad really (this computer is an old one at that). I think this can probably co-exist just fine with most DJ mixing programs on the same machine :)
Looks handy gotta say. Then comes the resource question. If you gonna run that with your mixing software will it start to crash your laptop or will you need 2 laptops to run the lighting on one and mixing software on another one.
Just for fun and with your very question in mind, I checked my CPU resources while running a light show I put together tonight. With my normal desktop, Skype and my DMX all running at the same time, I was only using between 4 and 10%. I didn't think that was too bad at all, This machine is over 3 years old too.
That sounds nice in terms of cpu resource use. Normally I would think that running dj software with all your music in it and having DMX on auto mode running some ready made programs for lights would consume some cpu power especially as the DMX software looked quite heavy but think people who are thinking of getting that are happy to hear that it's not the case.
thanks

Well tonight I had my normal desktop running along with Skype and my DMX. My CPU usage was between 4 and 10% which isn't too bad really (this computer is an old one at that). I think this can probably co-exist just fine with most DJ mixing programs on the same machine :)

Looks handy gotta say. Then comes the resource question. If you gonna run that with your mixing software will it start to crash your laptop or will you need 2 laptops to run the lighting on one and mixing software on another one.

I was playing with my DMX and Mixmeister at the same time last night and had no problems :)

That was my first big concern too. The last thing I wanted to do was replace my DMX controller with a second laptop! HA!
