In this season, had the BCS been in existence like it is today, #2 Arizona State would have played #1 Florida State for the national title as they were the only two undefeated teams. Ohio State would have played another team (perhaps 9-2 Washington) in this Rose Bowl, while #3 Florida (which wound up winning the title) would have played in the Orange Bowl against someone else (prob. 10-1 Va Tech), with not even an outside shot at the national title. Fun to juggle pre-BCS years like that.

.why dont you show ohio state fumble the ball on there last drive and asu gets it back., but was giving to ohio state. I have the full tape of this game and ohio state clearly fumbled the ball on the last drive and ASU recovers it. Even after replaying it the announcers said it should be ASU ball...when espn classic shows this game they delete that part out..at that time there was no instant replay or the coach couldnt have it reviewed. ASU would have won if that could be reviewed

Musburger committed a couple of boo-boos during Ohio State's last drive. He said a "field goal does them no good." Three points would have tied the score and sent the game into overtime. And after OSU scored the touchdown he wrongly credited David Boston with "his second touchdown pass of the game." It was Joe Germaine's second TD toss. The loss cost ASU the national championship. The following night number three Florida beat unbeaten top ranked Florida State in the Sugar Bowl.

I'll never forget this game. I was there and everything was magical until Ohio State's last drive. When Jake dove into the endzone on ASU's last TD, Sun Devil nation in the stadium went into a frenzy. It was crazy and I'll always remember how that felt. I refuse to watch the rest of this video from the 6:30 mark.
