  • AH!!!!!! it u - Japanesu

  • Was the original Gatling gun Made In China?

  • @ImoenOfTelengard No it was not. Early models were made in The U.S. But late in the 19th centry, it was licenced to others.

  • japs will probably try to make a better version, like they do all the time.

  • Shorten the handle and double your rpm

  • This same gun was used in ancient times almost 1500 years ago. In the Phillippines they called this mechanism Lantaka and was used against any invaders which include chinese, arabic and spanish. It is said that the invention came from the Moros aka the Moors but artifacts I have seen are much older thgan their invasion.

  • Wasn't the gatling gun used during the Meiji Restoration?

  • wait a minute..soldiers in that period usually dont shoot on 2 line ,in alternate fire?

  • An average British soldier could get off 3 rounds a minute and that would be with a Brown Bess! The guys says an average American soldier might be lucky to get off 3 rounds a min. but I think they could do it easily.

  • @LordWellington15 what you must remember is these are muzzleloading rifles and under fire were hard to reload. on top of that most civil war troops lacked experience as they were raw recruits. so 3 rds from a rifle is not so bad

  • @Acekiller1995 Ya, I guess, but Muzzle loaders are easier to reload than a Brown Bess.

  • @LordWellington15 both are muzzle loaders but rifled muzzleloaders take longer as you have to load arond the grooves

  • The Gatling gun was left behind by Custer before Little Big Horn. Would have been hard to drag along over rough terrain anyway.

A few years later, the British used it against the Zulu at Ulundi.

  • Right, after the defeat at Isindiwana.

A couple of crews killed over 5,000 zulu.

Chiefs in the area took off in fear, didnt waste time formally surrendering.

  • True- and we all know the last thing that went through George Custers mind was "WHERE DID ALL THESE FREAKING INJINS COME FROM?"

    =)

  • im not trying to be a smart ***

but isnt it a 40rnd "mag" not a clip?

  • @ugcsred2011 you are correct sir. you d think that a former special forces man would at least know the correct terminology wouldnt you?

  • it's a stupid, invalid test. they're all shooting at the same spot.

    sweep., horizontally.

  • hmm, so richard gatling thought in order to reduce the killings he must make an even better weapon of destruction. lol.

  • You should understand that the Nuclear Bomb has saved millions of lives that would have been lost in wars waged, because an enemy didn't have the terror that such a devastating weapon could cause.

  • I wonder if they ever considered water cooling the gatling gun in the 19th century?

  • how would you cool a rotating barrel???

  • the same as the other watercooled guns. the cooling system rotates too.

  • So what costs more? Feeding 15 riflemen or three machine gun operators?

    Duh...

  • um excuse me but not all machine gun operators are fat! How can you imply that they eat alot. Where are your sources. My dad is a MGO and he himself is a slim jim. Awaiting your apology, Greggoire

  • Hehe... No sir! Did not mean to suggest MGOs are fat!

Only that 15 ppl eat more than three, when often food supplies may be limited...

    tks

  • Wow...He Is The Father Of Machine Gun...That Was Awesome...

  • James Puckle made the Puckle Gun in 1718 which was the first operational automatic weapon

sadly it was ahead of time and few believed in it

the first MODERN machine gun was the fully automatic one designed by Hiram Maxim, the Maxim gun

  • umm but you are a pedofile ??

  • wow this was my great grandfather and also my dad invented the internet!

  • And spungii, my dad was God.

  • wow fucking lyer

  • Whadda ya know? Jesus was my cousin!

  • jesus was my dad!!

  • im friggin jessus!

  • the gatling is my fave

  • Stupid TV. It's simple mathemtics. 15 men with 3 rounds per minute (as they say at the beginning)couldnt be better than the gatling. there was no use for that stupid contest

  • Dude, keep in mind that in the era of this part of the 19th century, the Gatling's battery gun was an unheard of and innovative invention at that time. Like most new "inventions" they have of added amount of skepticism to them. It would have been no different with a handful of men and post civil war solders in those times who have witness the destructive firepower and what can be achieved by a platoon of rifleman.

  • Where is/was the scepticism in innovation in that movie? they just want to show a little bit of bang bang and because taht is too stupid, they arranged it as an "experiment" and "prove" something, that ever 5th grader can tell you: 150 or 200 (rounds per minute) is much more that 45. btw. i am a reenactor by myself ,-)

  • @pnktout Lack of foresight is a minor factor, the real reason it wasn't popular until ww1 is logistics and reliability. It's cost effective to give your soldiers the very best equipment and supplies and use the latest innovations, the problem is, as you heard in the documentary, it's difficult to keep 10000s of men in the field due to disease and malnutrition which are symptoms of wartime logistics. In terms of making sure every bullet counts and keeping the army mobile gatling guns are useless.

  • Also, Take it with a grain of salt. that they are "reenacting" a Gatling vs. percussion rifle field test, just as bout as if it happened over 140 years ago.

The military (then and now) would never consider a contract with a new piece of armament based on just equations on paper, without countless reliability and other malfunction (operator or machine) or other extensive field tests, this being one of them.

  • Also take into account that telling you how many round per minute is not thrilling.

  • due to the limitations of the civil war rifles the gatling gun wins

  • Definately not something you want to be on the receiving end of.

  • very nice

  • Wonder how fast you can fire it until it gets to be too much for the gun to handle...

  • lawl

  • Call it a waste but i converted one to paintball use. it's amazing how you can just use a tube to load em and let those springs inside fling em out like CO2.

  • show that on youtube

  • And risk another punctured bladder? NO!

  • "drasticly reducing the number of men on the battlefield"

indeed that was a sucess! but not the way gatling had in mind!

  • LOL!

  • The A-10 Harthog's Avergen Gattling Gun is better

  • lol... dude... i realy hope your joking... its kinda obvious dude... oh, btw, the g36 is better than a musket... (if u were joking, i apologize)

  • Those spray paint cans don't seem authentic to the Civil War era.

  • I love your videos.
