  • Can you imagine seeing this in a dark movie theater in the early 70s? It seems they were trying to cause possession. The exorcist always seemed like supernatural forces made this movie. I think there's much more than would Hollywood is telling us. What scary-movie has maintained its' "terror-factor" for 5 decades? And has been scarier than any other horror movie put out since?

  • Those flashes are a little too much for the eyes to transpire. Like those cartoons from Japan that causes seiziers to little kids who have cerebral palsy, or something. ;p

  • this shit is combined to

    climax

    suspense

    eary

    and heart attack

  • ahh! 10:43 Pm right now

  • i am SO watching this tonight!

  • I imagined myself watching this in the cinema, completely unaware about the content of the movie, in december, waiting to see any random movie about christmas, knowing that this thing will be released one day after christmas.

  • oh God... those faces were scary

  • Dang! Are they trying to give ppl heart attacks???

  • stop making arrow to the knee jokes they're not funny and stop taking arrows to the knee take them to the face

  • Think i had possesion wid flashing scenery just thn

  • i used to be an demon like you,

untill i took an arrow to the knee

  • All of the lights!

  • all that flashing i think i had a seizure or the beginning of a real possession.

  • I had to turn my light on to watch this...

  • My favorite movie... the best....

  • @msvioletrose4u216 I honestly think that it's the best movie--horror or otherwise--yet made.

  • You would not want to see this trailer on LSD.

  • Scariest movie EVER.

  • And what was wrong with this? With a trailer like this you know the movie will be bad ass. I loved it!

  • in 1973 this was a real scary shit, not to mention the society in those times was more quiet than these days and plus the catholic church was even closer! .

  • cool

  • no wonder this got banned. this scared me today and its 2011. in 1973, people must of been screaming and having fits! jesus....

  • O_O hella scary... :(

  • This is 1973, and it has not lost it's feel of true fear...........

    Amazing...

  • Wish more trailers were like that today

  • That would be damn amazing at a theatre.

  • this fuckin messed me up

  • Thats not scary.... but it sure gives me a head ache.

  • they should have at least put this in the beginning of the video, Warning Do Not Watch If you have Epilepsy

  • @darkgame2105 yep. that strobe effect can cause seizures

  • I can see why they banned this! It's not all that scary, but it really makes my head hurt! I think it may have induced seizures in those prone to such things..no joke..ouch!

  • How the HELL did they think they could get away with showing this to people in the theaters?! You couldn't show this shit in theaters today!

  • THIS IS A BUNCH OF POO!!!!

  • SCROLL UP YOU PUSSY

  • @Genzx123 shut up bich

  • This movie made me fear Ouija boards...

  • this would be the very last movie trailer I ever let my kids to watch

  • didn't disturb me one bit

  • I have seen the movie numerous times and this still gives me the creeping sack.

  • Wow that's pretty freaky even for today...it would maybe scare me if I had not seen the movie 1000 times....

  • spider pig.spider pig.do what ever what spider pig does! spider walk.spider walk.do what ever what spider walk does

  • It was probably banned because people could have seizures, not because it was too disturbing.

  • i would love to have been old enough to see the trailer, the build up and eventually the movie when it first came out,it must have blew peoples minds.i have hrard older realitives talikg about it,and it is still the scariest thing i have ever seen,if you dont believe me try watching it alone at 2 am alone with an open mind,i dare you.

  • @theMissJackson101

beee-cause something or someone possessed you to? ;P

  • @ShortFormCinema i remember watching this at mid night alone and suddenly the light went out and wet my pants

  • Can we say seizure?

  • Looks like they're pimping a snuff film

  • I AM BURN

  • Chuck norris mastrubates to this movie

  • PEOPLE. Its spelled T-O-R-T-U-R-E. I thought you were talking about people setting themselves on FIRE..... ugh.

  • I just got a headache in 1 minute && 50 seconds...

  • Honestly, I would not see this in theatures, not because it's too disturbing, not because it sux, not because it's too scary, but because it would give me a friggen head ache to watch it... I hate flashy things like this, heh...

  • @KenyoMurabu You man strobe lights. I think the bg was B&W and it's the brightness of white down to the darkness of black except the face.

  • Theblehguy and other teens simply don't understand that its not about the physical effects (head spinning etc.) Its the psychological apsect of it. Torture porn films have simplified today's youth. We don't always need to see blood or anything to be scared. I'm 24 never watched the film and am still scared too. Someday lol

  • @linavibe07 Honestly, the worst thing a person can do to someone is tourcher them, I don't think killing someone is the worst thing, because at that point, they'd beg you to kill them, but if you let them live with their tourcher, I can assure you, they'll be scarred for life living in fear having nightmares all the time, heh...

  • @linavibe07 But your saying that it's the tourcher that makes this movie scary, honestly if thats true, then I wouldn't consider this a scary horror movie, i'd consider it a Thriller Horror movie, heh... You know, same catagory as Hostle, & all... & I'm pretty sure Saw 1, 2, & 3, are much scarrier then this, if you want Tourcher, am I wrong?

I know it's one thing to unknowingly tourcher yourself, but doing it on purpous, knowingly, is pretty friggen nuts... lOl!!!

  • @linavibe07 I also heard some say that insidious was scarier then this. But what they don't know is that they never watched this flick on blu-ray. Plus, insidious is just Paranormal activity, not psychological like the exorcist.

  • @memento313 lol... thats how I've always described this film, "creepy as shit". The third one is also very very good...creepy as fuck one might say..

  • If only movies could be made more like this and concentrate less on gore, but more on the psychological epitome that makes any genuine horror movie horrifying. :'(

  • the exorcist was a one shot deal, you will never get a movie to shock a nation as far as horror films go like this

  • @watdascrew yeah, I guess so. That's why I'm lamenting right now...

  • @luvpinas123 I'll keep that in mind when I become a director.

  • That trailer is for the 1975 Re-Release...it wasn't banned.

The original trailer IS the priest arriving and the Narrator explaining what's happening and that's IT...a very short trailer.

  • Nah its all good bro I hate sleep.

    Thats why I watched this.

I never want to sleep again.

  • Wow 1 min close up of here face, what a B movie

  • I think i might have a seizure 0.o

  • @punheteiro1minete

    "Fuchi Capesta !" ( LOL )

  • type in the exorcist it will say the exorcist and that will be the movie

  • those god damn demons

  • @jrausch19 LMMFPO - LUV IT !

  • @ShortFormCinema i think i made a exorcist in my underwear

  • @alteredbeastliker well hey then at least ya got the little schnook outta ya XD

  • movies don't have this shock value anymore like this movie had and it sucks cause everything is so computer animated now and the worst part is that they are to over the top nowadays unlike the exorcist when all the little things just freaked you out like the scene when shes talking to the priest after having the final transformation, no music, no over the top sequences using digital effects it was just her look and voice simply just conversating that was alone just horrifying.

  • This trailer is just too fuckin disturbing..

  • All movie trailers should be this good. Scary stuff.

  • i saw this and remember

This was TEASER tralier ,before the real trailer came out

  • I actually met Linda Blair about 10 yrs ago she was very funny and gracious as all get out i even got a peck on the cheek and a hug

  • Really awesome movie - not that scary at all but still great. Ellen Burstyn and Linda Blair showed phenomenal acting. They both deserved the Oscar. I still think that the 70's had the greatest Horror films - this one, Halloween, Alien, Carrie, Black Christmas, Dawn of the Dead, Jaws, Amityville Horror, Asylum, The Wicker Man, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Horror Express, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Piranha, Shivers, The Crazies, Sisters.......to name a few

  • Mum and dad went to the drive-in too see this when it came out. They said they slept with the lights on for weeks afterwards LOL

  • did they put this on tv?

  • wow for 1973

  • wow for 1873 wow

  • @MrZYPREXAX hahahahahahaha

  • The actual movie is the scariest movie to date, even by today's standards, but this trailer did nothing for me. Sorry....I don't do the psycadelic seizure enducing marketing ploys that well. Pikachu's flashing red eyes, anyone? lol

  • this is the greastest horror ever by far ,Just the acting

    in itself.anyone ?

  • Fuck this shit.. it's like they want to get us blind..

  • That trailer was a bit creepy to be honest. I'd love to watch the film though :D

  • this movie is still the shit

  • @pachuco316 hey!!!!!!

  • i honestly didnt think this trailer was scary at all. the movie isnt even that scary either. its really good, but not that scary.

  • Justin Beiber with a heart burn :D

  • Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerin

  • this movie really isn't as scary as people say it is, infact it's not scary at all, i just don't get it? How can people find a girl with a pretty creepy face, swearing, wrigling her tongue around, getting sick and piss once, be scary!?

Very good movie, but NOT scary...:)

  • @theblehguy1 Maybe its because you have a different perspective in Horror Movies and what scares you.

  • Don't listen to theblehguy1, this movie is terrifying.

  • @theblehguy1 It is scary. How old are you? About 16? It's a different kind of scary. It is psychologically chilling as well as visually and sonically terrifying. It's not like Saw or Hostel or any other of those awful slash porn movies

  • Comment removed

  • @padlock23 i'm 13, and i understand why people find scary, uch as the headspin, voice, face spiderwalk, demon popping up(that actually is kinda freaky). All i'm saying is, i wouldn't call it the SCARIEST movie.

I do find it pretty disturbing how she changes so much, i'd say it would be scarier if it didn't include some of the things i had in the previous comment.

But it still is my favourite horror movie ;)

  • @theblehguy1 Fair enough. Point taken. The headspinning is naff these days as are most of the special effects but the image of the white demon's face that flashes up on this trailer still gives me nightmares. And I am 30.

  • @padlock23

Saw and Hostel are not slashers, they are torture porn flicks made to shock and gross out and offend. Slashesrs are more entertaining cuz you can laugh at the cheesy dialogue and acting, and the killers. Torture Porn can be funny if the gore is so fake looking you can't help but burst out laughing. Go watch Dead Alive and enjoy making fun of the goriest movie ever made. :D btw, I LOVE the first Saw movie, but hated Hostel.

  • @theblehguy1

in 1973 it was a new kind of film for the audience everyone was used to like slasher films and a bunch of other stuff there werent many supernatural horror films in the early 70's

  • @theblehguy1 as if man thats probably how you act when you're drunk haha

  • @theblehguy1 The scare factor is subjective only relevant to the time of its release. At the time this movie came out, God and religion was a sensitive subject and churches once exclaimed about the movie itself being 'evil'. Many of the films nowadays are copycats of the genius that is this movie because back then, there was nothing like it and it still holds up somewhat today for me too.

  • my mum went to see this with her friend, but it was m dad that had the nightmares about it that night!!!

  • Try watching the second part of the video when your high.

  • wonder why the switched from this one to the other one

  • very scary and haunting this movie is.

  • My Mom went to go see this when she was pregnant with me. She maintains that's why I'm a psycho...maybe she's right. LOL

  • @LadyLotus74 lets party ;P

  • @ShortFormCinema Okay!!!! ;D

  • @LadyLotus74 why would a pregnant woman want to see an extremely disturbing movie?

  • @Claronium780 Why should being pregnant stop anyone from watching any kind of movie? The baby can't see it. You're funny. :-)

  • A truly brilliant masterpiece of horror that seems better with every passing year! Powerful, shocking, disturbing, atmospheric, intelligent and even thought provoking. Amazingly well written, acted, directed, photographed and scored.

  • @TheAltair4

Indeed, it is one of the best horror movies i've seen since i was 9 and blew me away shocked me as well. How old were you when you saw this masterpiece?

  • @Johnlindsey289 I saw it on video when i was 7 and it creeped me out big time.

  • @TheAltair4

Too bad part 2 was total shit while part 3 was an improvement and The Beginning was an enjoyable movie. Over the years we have so many Exorcist wannabes including recent ones like The Rite to Exorcism of Emily to Beyond The Door. Classics all have their imitations.

  • @Johnlindsey289 I thought Beyond the Door was quite good myself, but Exorcist 2 was disappointing as was The Rite, Exorcism of Emily Rose, Last Exorcism, and even Dominion. Repossessed was a really great, funny parody of the original that i saw in theaters as a kld.

  • @TheAltair4

Yes Repossessed was a fun parody. It's like how Jaws has 2 good imitators known as Piranha with the 3D remake and Alligator to guilty pleasures like Grizzly, Loch Ness Horror, Slugs, Lake Placid and more.

  • @Johnlindsey289 Yes, Alligator, Piranha and it's remake were all fun Jaws ripoffs.

  • @TheAltair4

Surely you dont' think Dominon was any worse than Beginning? I LOVE Dominon, but hated Beginning. That stupid ending ruing the entire movie for me. lol. I also loved Exorcism of Emily Rose..it was Exorcist meets Law and Order. LOL! Heard Last Exorcism was a joke that ppl laughed at....the ending at least. I heard it was very suspenseful and creepy up until the cheesy ending with the baby and whatnot. :D

  • @compsciguy I thought Dominion was pretty boring myself but i didn't think it was any worse than The Beginning. They had some great moments in them but overall i was pretty disappointed with them. Exorcism of Emily Rose had just a little too much courtroom drama in it for my taste ( not a Law and Order fan, i'm afraid ) and not quite enough real suspense. The Last Exorcism i'd rather just forget about altogether though. lol

  • not rare anymore is it

  • It would have been very bad for the eyes and nerves to watch this trailer at the cinema. Although it is not really scary it is disturbing and so I agree with the editors in this case.

  • i imagine that trailer is only scary for epileptics...

  • it's not even scary

  • @vermylenp Actually, it was considered extremely scary for it's day.

  • wow just shit myself watching that trailer!!! lol never seen that one before

  • this looks shockingly unscary;/.

  • Me n me mates watched dis after school last year wit sum hot bitches from da class above us, we was all gettin pissed n high n sum abit horney hahahaha, anyways we watched dis & was like sooooooo disappointed, it was like kinda funny 2 b honest! Dudes da Saw movies r wayyyyy scarier n so is paranormal activitiy. But dis old movie dat got so much talk abt sucked ass. RaSpex.

  • @imdacoolestguy this movie is a fucking masterpeice and you know it.

  • Just saw this on my DVD. Pretty shocking. I'd say it'd still work on today's audience.

  • bETTER TRAILER...

  • ha ha hell ya this is still like the best horror film ever!

  • i think im going to have a seizure

  • is fucking horrible

  • nice

  • God , that Linda Blair was cute.

  • The whole point is that upon it's release in 1973 it WAS the scariest movie of it's time.I think to compare it to,or attempt to compare it to anything in this genre today is just pointless. There were no CGI effects back then,no scantily-clad teens 'running screaming through the wood',no banal scripts. The fact that there wasn't the need to have a huge body-count or tons of gore is the core of the film.It was about demonic possession,NOT schlock-horror slasher flick genre. It worked for me.

  • As a lot of people have said, this movie is the first of it's kind. When star wars came out I didn't see it until 5 years later and I wondered what all the fuss was about. But the special effects was what made the movie and in my opinion, it didn't live up to the hype.

  • A classic film and very creepy trailer. It would make me want to go to the theaters to see the movie.

  • @MrManuel822 ,

Yeah,I agree, this is one hard-hitting trailer which should have been used to advertise the film at cinemas.

  • how was this scary exactly? lol

  • rubbish trailer

  • if its rare why is it on the internet :)

  • @GomJabber11 I understand your point but you have to remember that this movie was release in 1973, and back then it was absolutely devastating. There ambulances on many movie theaters because some people would just faint. After 40 something years this movie derves credit, after all it has outlasted hundreds of these gory, bleedy, grotesque movies we have had for the past few decades. When I watched this fil for the firts time, it scared the crap out me...:)

  • This movie doesn't scare me when I watch it, but then I go to bed and turn off the lights and I have this dark feeling that I just pissed something evil off.

  • WHAT'S IT RATED?

  • @kailin2017 tv14

  • and no lights

  • this movie isnt scary until you decide to watch it alone at 1:am

  • It actually was released and caused the audience to be too terrified, after that it was remade. By the way the other post about this trailer has better sound. It's the link to your right that says "RARE EXORCIST TRAILER".

  • You have to remember the year this film was released. NOTHING before this had ever been this frightening nor upsetting to so many viewers. I can respect your point of view but I watch this film about once every year and it still frightens me to some extent. Maybe not the extent as to when I first saw it, but it does age very well and still delivers IMO. The original version - don't bother with "The Director's Cut".

  • peopel when comes scary part in this movie cant find

  • i pee myself but dont know y

  • You people are all just in denial, this movie still invokes a sense of dread in me that I don't really feel with any other film.

Just the girl's face... the complete obliteration of a child's innocence... just wrong.

  • I remember after seeing tn his walking into the house, and pulling all the curtains closed, and all the lights on with a very controlled sense of urgency.

  • THIS ISN'T A SCARE HORROR MOVIE. IT'S A PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR FILM.

  • you look at this movie now and it is funny

  • 0:31-the end, I see why they banned it, so it doesn't give young viewers nightmares.

  • I saw this back when I was in high school (10th grade) and it scared the crap outta me! Later when I saw the spider walk it reallt creeped me out- I don't know why but something about the movement down the stairs...weird.

I had read the book too which was scary. They simply can't make horror movies like this anymore. They have to resort to blood and guts (slasher crap) to get a scare but that just gets ridiculous and old after a while.

  • I mean "shit", "ghosts" and "film that scaried me a lot". thanks!

  • Fuck the "graphics of 2010" or all this hit movies we watch nowaday! This movie is a truly horror masterpiece! it's a mental horror. We don't need monsters and ghost jumping off in the screen to have a "film that sacried me a lot". fuck this CG generation!
