This is a brilliant film. Unbelievable its 25 years old. Used to live near Morar. Walked along Camusdarrach Beach so many times. Stunning scenery. We all walked along here as a family the day after my parents Ruby Wedding. It was sunny hot day and the film had just been completed so the set was still there. Great memories. Every time I hear the music it all comes back.
@Kevinthelimpet urm Morar most certainly does exist, I've been there more than 20 times, it's the second to last stop on the great West Highland Railway line which ends at Mallaig along the A830.
I'd sort your facts out before making such statements. The beach scenes were all filmed at the silver sands of Morar and on Camasdarach beach
We just visited Pennan TODAY! It was absolutely deserted with only a lone fisherman working on his boat during low tide. DID look like the village in the movie though. The hotel is not open, but did have an "opening soon" sign on the window. And the phone box was freshly painted today as well.
I planned to pop in Pennan this summer, but... the hell with the crisis, I will get there next summer! I'm Italian, and I never felt better abroad than I was in Scotland... I'll have to be back!
Camasdarach beach when the sun is setting is a magical place and this clip captures that. Local Hero is probably one of the best scottish films ever made. I love it. thanks
It's one of my favourite scenes. I am jealous of you if you live near that beach! There is actually a beach near me which, in the right conditions, almost looks as beautiful as that.
I'll have to get around to upload some scenes from the second half of the movie.

Morar is at the west end of Loch Morar on the West coast, just south of Mallaig on the A830.
The beach scenes were filmed on the West coast. The village scenes in Pennan which is on the Moray Firth near Macduff and Banff.

Been to the area where they filmed the film a few times. Both Morar and Pennan. Amazing places.
