@myronlittman Too bad that all the profit from your Acura goes over seas. The actual building of a car is less than 1/2 the cost. And no profit is relalized in the US. You have contributed to the failure of this once great country. Congratulations.

This is going to be another hot seller for GM. The latest products have been unbelievable and everyone I talk to says they will consider the new products. I admit the older cars were junk but things change and perceptions do too. I have a Honda thats rusting, engine is always rough and oil leaks. Can't get rid of it for free. Read the latest Consumer Reports perception survey. Chevy is in the top 3 as most improved.
all yall ford lovers quit putin Chevy down 2 make ur peas off junk fords look better it ant gonna work cause Chevy always going 2 be better than ford so quit trying and all them junky buzz boxes Honda and Toyota
It's in production already, just not in US. They are already on the streets in Europe, Asia and Australia. Coming soon to the US. Seriously this car is pretty damn amazing. I've seen it.
Well, another modified and rebadged Daewoo....Lets give it a chance a see if it is better than a shitty Aveo, Optra and Epica. They are trying to make a small Malibu with this car, hopefully it will do better than Malibu. At least it has a better rear end than Malibu.
Yeah, the old 05 shapes where a blow off. When I first saw it, I felt sick... But the new one I guess looks better. But not what a Golf should have turned into. MK4 edition was better.
GranFury440, you can't even imagine what is going on, if you keep over $25USD/Hr your stupid products will increase in price ==== Equals=== your stupid manufacturers look for foreign countries with $20USD/Day (or a week in some cases) wages, is that pretty hard to figure ??, Also unions are a big Rats making millions from hard working people. The latest Cash4Clunkers report says Top10 traded in where Americans, Top10 Purchased where Toyota, Honda, Nissan & Hyundai : HOW STUPID IS THAT ?????????
No, because you people have made your own fame by yourself. People in US have never wanted to use Diesel, you have always been a Gasoline lovers, with huge V6 and V8 engines for SUVs and all cars, but never looking for Diesel reliability and economy. People in US is under the impression that Diesel is just for Trucks and contruction or farming machinery. If you are one of the few US citizen that realized Diesel has more benefits than gasoline, CONGRATULATIONS!!
Do not paint the citizens with a broad brush. It is the sins of Detroit that stains us. VW TDI sell out fast. GM is stupid not us. And V8s are rare these days.
That is why I congratulated you, cuz you know what Im talking about. Many SUV models we have here in my country and also in Europe have Diesel engines and they are most sold than the gasoline version, but the same models in US are only sold Gasoline V6 or I-4 but with a huge displacement, for example Hyundai Santa Fe: you could get the gas version here, same as US, but people here preffer the 2.2 Ltr Turbo Diesel engine, 4wd. I hope we can see more Diesel engines around the US roads.
What get's me is that we are 3 months still in 2009 and this car is a 2011 year model. How long will they continue to lie so grossly about this crap! So sick of this 9.99 or the gasoline prices $1.5.09 or all these marketing schemes only to lie to people!!!
maybe the car wouldnt be so expensive if union workers didnt make $30/hr to sit around and let a machine do all the work. and how much do you think it will cost to fix these cars? wait until the consumer realizes that they have no one but a dealer to fix it. "monopoly"!!!!! so now you have an overpriced hunk of shit, and people maxing out their credit cards just to maintain it. and what will people do when electric cars rule the world and electricity prices go up???
@ The87killer. Let the "machine do all the work?" Fuck you! My family has worked for GM for many generations and I'll tell you something.. us "shoprats" work harder in in one day then most people do in a month. Hell My Dad was the only one at his plant who could run thousands of parts AND box them up with a machine that nobody else knew how to run while lifting heavy stacks of the parts all at the same time all day with cancer causing chemicals. I hope you die in a car wreck you ignorant shit
GrandFury440, Thats so stupid way of thinking you are like all the US people blaming on the world for your US problem.
Thats caused because you guys get paid to mutch for doing nothing, as mutch as you get paid ==Equals to== as mutch as your products will increase in price, thats a snow ball efect ocurring right know.
Wy you dont try to convince your US conationals to Trade in their Japanese cars for a Chevy, Ford or a Chrysler.
good point anavarro about convincing americans to buy american
But, Granfury does have a point too that GM is a transnational corporation that rapes and pillages other companies to become slave or sefs to the overlord GM Shareholders. THat is the game that is being played.
It's the same thing with every corporation based in Europe and America.
GM is doing fine in China because of secret furtive meeting with corrupt Chinese beaurocrats and powerful shareholders in GM. Both parties will profit.
@ anavarro28. Oh the americans get "paid too much?" Oh you think so huh? So 25 dollars an hour is too much? That is around the going rate at the manufacturing plants for a average line worker! That amount is barely a LIVABLE WAGE! What are we supposed to earn less like 10 dollars an hour and under, living in carboard boxes in alleyways at night?!! Read what keithg1 said to you here. I bought american!! I DO have loyalty to the traitors most americans still do! I bought a GM product!
I think we should think "globally" and put a $15,000 tax on every Toyota Honda Hyundai Kia VW etc ... why not? ... They do it to us!
Try to buy a Chevy Cobalt in Japan... it will cost you $45,000 after tariffs! Try to buy anything made in the US in the EC... it will cost you twice as much... but they come to the big dumb US and sell products without even paying US taxes like our own US mfrs.
GM is NOT a sinking ship. GM MADE it look like they were hurting here in the U.S but actually all they did was move their wealth overseas to china. GM is actually doing just fine. The North american operations are suffering because they LET it get that way on purpose. All the GM manufacturing plants are torn down in my town but in China they have state of the art. If there was ever a WW3 we would have to blow up China's GM plants to stop them from building war equipment to kill us with.
GranFury440.......are you 5? they LET that happen on purpose? don't make me laugh. what you're saying is that GM let that happen so that they could get off the hook and Obama would keep wiring money.......:l
Am I 5. Huh... wow great line there! Not. I don't think Obama should have given the pricks money like that. Like I fucking said GM left the U.S for cheap chinese communist labor to get rid of the UAW and everyone of us who demand LIVABLE WAGES and safety. You know the UAW is the reason we HAVE OSHA here! But now we are missing our jobs and yet GM still expects us to somehow afford their cars. By doing what being doctors, lawyers? Our REAL livable wages are GONE.
wasnt that what the so-called bailout money was for? i dont get why GM ceo's still have their damn jobs in the first place? when was it ok to screw up at a job and not get fired or get a bonus? Do Mcdanalds workers get a bailout when they fuck up?
@willsco76 r u serious? is that why gm had to have the government bail them out so that they would go belly up? gm will only be around for another 100 years because alot of jobs in detroit rely on the gm plants. ford makes much better cars than gm. and so does every single foreign car company
@willsco76 GM makes the best looking and driving cars? What have you been smoking? I'd like some too. GM hasn't made a great car since the VEGA! Ha Ha!
If the Cruze is as reliable as Honda in 10 YEARS, then I"ll buy. Until then fuggetaboutit.
@willsco76 3 years ago, I found it quite difficult to find an interesting US car, vette not included since too expensive, but now, I wouldn't consider anything but US car for two reasons: 1) keep as much dollars in the country as possible 2) I REALLY LIKE many of the new models so much that I am glad i'm not in the market because I just couldn't make up my mind: volt, challenger, camaro, taurus, leSabre, regal, cadillac, vette, and here's hoping for the Focus RS etc etc etc.
@willsco76 Best is an opinion word unless you have statistics to prove it. Like awards won based on quality.. which GM of the past 5 years has nearly none.. let's speak relevantly this is a great showing for GM though as far as quality products go
This South-Korean TV box is for gays indeed. And it's even not a Chevrolet. It's Hyundai. But, that brand didn't fit and so the renamed Hyundai to Chevrolet. Nowadays, my country (Holland) is full of those bumbling TV boxes. LOL.
Isn't it ironic how you'll have people posting these comments blaming, politicians, corporate greed, etc etc for the situation we're in right now, then put their computers to sleep (if they even bother) and go off shopping at Walmart.
I'd rather buy a 1975 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham d'Elegance with a 500 Cubic Inch V8 getting 10mpg and be riding in much better saftey and comfort than this TV Box thank you!
Diesel engines are not necessarily cleaner. Diesel emissions are dirtier but their is less of it so it evens out. Diesels aren't as common in the US for several reasons. First of all, thanks to the government, diesel fuel is more expensive in many places. Also, US environmental laws are based more on emissions while European laws are based more on fuel economy. This means the US laws are more favored to gas while Europe is favored to diesel.
That's right. For example my country, Holland. Normal fuel here costs you the lovely price of 1,43 Euro per liter. Diesel costs you more tax but is more economical. So, everyone chooses more for diesel in despite of the environment. Our gouvernment is actuallly making people making the wrong choice.
@aust1129ps...There are very strict emmissions standards that many car companies can't meet. Mercedes, audi and vw do but limited. That's why you don't see as many in this contry as you do over seas.
@aust1129ps The newest addition to the Chevy line will be a true hit in the US as it was in the European countries. The car is stylish, affordable and gets great gas mileage.
with 236ft lbs of torque the turbodiesel will make short work of any of the gas engines in terms of acceleration, especially in a car this light. I wish they'd comply with EPA2010 regs and bring this diesel to the usa.
what really IS american anymore? The politicians gave away our manufactureing base thanks to NAFTA and free trade with China. Well, when no one has decent jobs in the USA, who will buy their products? Between Canada, Mexico, China, and the Koreans, were all screwed.
poochy86307: According to Consumer Reports magazine, GM makes unreliable cars with low resale value. I owned a Chevy Cavalier, so I can testify that GM makes junk that's expensive to repair. I was stranded on the sides of the road many times, and I almost lost my job because I was late for work. If you own a GM car, then you MUST always carry a cell phone to call a tow truck.
animetodamaximum: No, I don't own a Prius. I currently don't have a car because my Chevy was such a piece of crap that it's now sitting in the junkyard.
poochy86307: GM just announced today that they're recalling 1.3 million cars. The recall affects Chevrolet Cobalts, Pontiac G5s, Pontiac Pursuits (sold in Canada), and Pontiac G4s (sold in Mexico). If you have one of those cars, your steering may fail.
Yes this is a Daewoo product. Most of the engineering came from South Korean engineers. GM which is a global company decided to gets its hand on Daewoo to utilise South Korea's technology expertise. It was probably collusion with Gm and the BIG boys that Kim Woo Choong intentionally destroyed Daewoo's well being as an independent car manufactorer. This guy, CEO, was extremely a prudent and hard working man. No way, could Kim make that many stupid decisions to collapse Daewoo.
if they bring the turbodiesel to the US it will get 60mpg in this small car with a 6spd auto. This will be helpful when fuel goes back upto $5/gallon. Also, it will have torque, something that gas 4cylinders lack severely.
a small 1.4 cyl engine will not produce alot of torque automatically. Most small 4cyl engines do produce alot of torque but not in the low end spectrum. You can chose one but you cant really master both. Take your pick. High end or low end torque. I would choose high end all the time.
torque is what moves a vehicle. drive a TDI volkswagen or a diesel pickup truck and tell me if you would still prefer a gas version. The only thing that will make this 1.4L engine worth anything is the turbo. without it this thing is a total dog.
diesels kick ass. But the problem with diesel is that it is more expensive. Most small cars with inline 4's aren't desighned to well on the low end torque spectrum like i said previously. Alot of people are saying that this car technically isn't a chevy. Dont know if i cant believe that or not. It was probably co developed by both.
a prius is a totally different animal, its electric motor has tons of torque from a dead stop. the concern with the prius is long term battery replacement costs and disposal issues. The Cruze surely comes from Gm's Euro division, but anyway, what really is genuine anymore in this "global" economy? I like the Cruze its styleing is well done, and if it gets 40mpg in a gas version it will do very well in America for sales.
One question... where did all the Horse Power go... who cares about mpg. you dont buy a ss looking for mpg. 2.0 with under 200hp.. psh... and that steering wheel is kind of ugly, imo
Why change the name-look at the civic, corolla, and fusion-they have been redesigned a few times like headlights tail lights-better interiors than previous models-GM never changed the headlights taillights-only thing they have done was make the SS better with the TC 2.0 liter which puts out 260 bhp WTF-So why not redesign the Cobalt-I remember they changed from the Cavalier and they said that it takes a lot of money to make a all new car model-This car should be the Cobalt-How many civics in 5 y
I have a Cobalt-First Gen actually-lets see thats a 2005-here it is 2009-Remember the Civic-oh you do?That is because it is still on the street-The Civic name has been around for over 20 years-look at all the redesigns it went through and the marketing and sales are through the roofs-ok back to the Cobalt-Gm Resigned it how? Added a few little interior features-put some different hub caps/Rims-oh dont forget the GM little badge-WHat I am saying is Keep the name Cobalt and redo the body a little-
The cobalt, cavalier, etc. have constantly been better than a Civic, though. Not defending them making a new car, I don't know their reasoning behind it, but I'd rather drive a cruze than a Civic.
There is nothing wrong with the Cobalt at all-I just see why they dont make the Cruze a remodeled Cobalt-They never added anything cool to the Cobalts interior-or exterior-Never changed it up-Lose the Cruze name and keep the Cobalt name-Here is the kicker its going to have less power-even Turbo charged
Yeah, I have no clue why they changed the name. Doesn't quite make sense to me... I have a feeling every car is going to be losing power now for Car Czar's/CAFE's regulations, which sucks.
the cobalt doesnt have "euro" styling and comes with an optional coupe trim and an SS trim for performance lovers and gets up to 36 mpg hwy on regular models.
so in other words the majority of the american public thinks it is crap and they think it will fall apart after 20k miles so GM needed to change it's image to let all the dumb people in the world think GM is all new when in fact in recent years there was nothing wrong with their cars. those people are tools to media and it screws us.
cavalier and cobalt were just a down right plain piece of shit in comparison to the civic. I don't know how you label it as better. Feature wise but they didn't make it in a lot of category's. This car shouild improve alot of things. But a turbo charged 1.4? That thing will fall apart in less that 20k miles. Thats like asking for trouble.
Simplicity doesn't always equal inferiority. The civic hasn't been terrible, but it has never been anything special... I won't argue this with you, I guess it's all subjective. The engine will be bullet-proof if it's anything like the most recent GM engines out there... The mpg war is taking its toll on the good engines out there, though.
It would be ridiculous to say the civic has been terrible throughout its history, sorry if I came across as saying that. It was better looking than cavaliers, that's for sure, and possibly better, I was going overboard. I think the cobalts compete well as a more simplistic model of the civic... Sorry, my other comments seemed pretty close-minded.
Thanks man, you aren't close minded like the rest of people, either. I've been trying to take my blinders of lately and be as objective as possible in looking into cars. It's hard, because it's mostly subjective matters, and I have ties to a few brands, but it's good to appreciate all cars, I guess.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Wow another gutless piece of SH**-I thought my Cobalt 2.2 liter w?150 BHP was gutless-no wonder they are estimating 40 mpg-Think I will buy an Honda next time-
They will call this the Holden Cruze in Australia to replace the Astra. It will sell alongside the bigger engined Holden (GM Daewoo) Epica and even larger Commodore (which nobody seems to be buying).
Focus RS will never come across the Ocean and it's overrated anyways.....Found On Road Dead/Fucked On Race Day/Fix Or Repair Daily. Pffft.......The Focus is dogshit, the fusion is dogshit, the Ford GT is Dogshit, The Mustang is decent and their trucks are sub par......Yes, why don't we all buy Ford? Lets add another thumbs down for your comment!
if ford is sooo bad than y are they selling better than most other makers and wayy better than chevy. o and y is the "sub-par" f-150 the best selling vehicle in north-america... just wondering
What were their sales worldwide? Last I checked GM was only recently overtaken by Toyota in Global volume sales, so go back to school, learn to read instead of listening to commercials and go research world sales. Ford is non-existent because their cars are and always will be shit and everyone outside of North America knows it. Go back to school and come back and argue when you have information beyond a grade five knowledge base!
if your talking about getting rid of pontiac stop. they did that because, if you hadn't noticed, the economy sucks. pontiac was the same thing as chevy, the g5 was the cobalt so on so forth, and is gettin rid of its weakest links. the only car that was different was the GTO and G8 but they're gone. just let it go. buick or hummer is next then which ever don't go first is gone second then saturn. GM doesn't need all these companies that make the same car with different bodies
Turbo HA HA HA ARH. Their project copycat from german car company. They're bad parthform becaause American always use for racing tourment and never have the turbo fuel economy's theory that mean lost Acceleration and combustion of engine lower than VW.

Read the latest Consumer Reports perception survey. Chevy is in the top 3 as most improved.

So no diesel for the USA? **** you GM
GhostofRazors 2 years ago
No, because you people have made your own fame by yourself. People in US have never wanted to use Diesel, you have always been a Gasoline lovers, with huge V6 and V8 engines for SUVs and all cars, but never looking for Diesel reliability and economy. People in US is under the impression that Diesel is just for Trucks and contruction or farming machinery. If you are one of the few US citizen that realized Diesel has more benefits than gasoline, CONGRATULATIONS!!
wtrdogg20 2 years ago
Do not paint the citizens with a broad brush. It is the sins of Detroit that stains us. VW TDI sell out fast. GM is stupid not us. And V8s are rare these days.
GhostofRazors 2 years ago
That is why I congratulated you, cuz you know what Im talking about. Many SUV models we have here in my country and also in Europe have Diesel engines and they are most sold than the gasoline version, but the same models in US are only sold Gasoline V6 or I-4 but with a huge displacement, for example Hyundai Santa Fe: you could get the gas version here, same as US, but people here preffer the 2.2 Ltr Turbo Diesel engine, 4wd. I hope we can see more Diesel engines around the US roads.

good point anavarro about convincing americans to buy american
But, Granfury does have a point too that GM is a transnational corporation that rapes and pillages other companies to become slave or sefs to the overlord GM Shareholders. THat is the game that is being played.
It's the same thing with every corporation based in Europe and America.
GM is doing fine in China because of secret furtive meeting with corrupt Chinese beaurocrats and powerful shareholders in GM. Both parties will profit.

The North american operations are suffering because they LET it get that way on purpose. All the GM manufacturing plants are torn down in my town but in China they have state of the art. diesel engines now adays run much cleaner than gas engines, its mor eco-friendly. i dunno why we dont have it in america
aust1129ps 2 years ago 6
Diesel engines are not necessarily cleaner. Diesel emissions are dirtier but their is less of it so it evens out. Diesels aren't as common in the US for several reasons. First of all, thanks to the government, diesel fuel is more expensive in many places. Also, US environmental laws are based more on emissions while European laws are based more on fuel economy. This means the US laws are more favored to gas while Europe is favored to diesel.
HeadTater 2 years ago
That's right. For example my country, Holland. Normal fuel here costs you the lovely price of 1,43 Euro per liter. Diesel costs you more tax but is more economical. So, everyone chooses more for diesel in despite of the environment. Our gouvernment is actuallly making people making the wrong choice.
Beun007 2 years ago 2
I'm with you aust1129ps. Clean turbo diesels get great gas mileage. I think the 1.4 turbo (gas) will do well also. Chevy is making some great cars!!!
jonathanjay743 2 years ago

Also, it will have torque, something that gas 4cylinders lack severely.
tom69z28 2 years ago
a small 1.4 cyl engine will not produce alot of torque automatically. Most small 4cyl engines do produce alot of torque but not in the low end spectrum. You can chose one but you cant really master both. Take your pick. High end or low end torque. I would choose high end all the time.
EpiDemic117 2 years ago
torque is what moves a vehicle. drive a TDI volkswagen or a diesel pickup truck and tell me if you would still prefer a gas version. The only thing that will make this 1.4L engine worth anything is the turbo. without it this thing is a total dog.
tom69z28 2 years ago
its basically a prius is what your trying to say. Tiny motor that isnt to good on power.
EpiDemic117 2 years ago
diesels kick ass. But the problem with diesel is that it is more expensive. Most small cars with inline 4's aren't desighned to well on the low end torque spectrum like i said previously. Alot of people are saying that this car technically isn't a chevy. Dont know if i cant believe that or not. It was probably co developed by both.
EpiDemic117 2 years ago
a prius is a totally different animal, its electric motor has tons of torque from a dead stop. the concern with the prius is long term battery replacement costs and disposal issues. The Cruze surely comes from Gm's Euro division, but anyway, what really is genuine anymore in this "global" economy? I like the Cruze its styleing is well done, and if it gets 40mpg in a gas version it will do very well in America for sales.
tom69z28 2 years ago

Why change the name-look at the civic, corolla, and fusion-they have been redesigned a few times like headlights tail lights-better interiors than previous models-GM never changed the headlights taillights-only thing they have done was make the SS better with the TC 2.0 liter which puts out 260 bhp WTF-So why not redesign the Cobalt-I remember they changed from the Cavalier and they said that it takes a lot of money to make a all new car model-This car should be the Cobalt-How many civics in 5 y
danielcraigrasmussen 2 years ago
I have a Cobalt-First Gen actually-lets see thats a 2005-here it is 2009-Remember the Civic-oh you do?That is because it is still on the street-The Civic name has been around for over 20 years-look at all the redesigns it went through and the marketing and sales are through the roofs-ok back to the Cobalt-Gm Resigned it how? Added a few little interior features-put some different hub caps/Rims-oh dont forget the GM little badge-WHat I am saying is Keep the name Cobalt and redo the body a little-
danielcraigrasmussen 2 years ago
The cobalt, cavalier, etc. have constantly been better than a Civic, though. Not defending them making a new car, I don't know their reasoning behind it, but I'd rather drive a cruze than a Civic.
colin82793 2 years ago 4
There is nothing wrong with the Cobalt at all-I just see why they dont make the Cruze a remodeled Cobalt-They never added anything cool to the Cobalts interior-or exterior-Never changed it up-Lose the Cruze name and keep the Cobalt name-Here is the kicker its going to have less power-even Turbo charged
danielcraigrasmussen 2 years ago
Yeah, I have no clue why they changed the name. Doesn't quite make sense to me... I have a feeling every car is going to be losing power now for Car Czar's/CAFE's regulations, which sucks.
colin82793 2 years ago
the cobalt doesnt have "euro" styling and comes with an optional coupe trim and an SS trim for performance lovers and gets up to 36 mpg hwy on regular models.
so in other words the majority of the american public thinks it is crap and they think it will fall apart after 20k miles so GM needed to change it's image to let all the dumb people in the world think GM is all new when in fact in recent years there was nothing wrong with their cars. those people are tools to media and it screws us.
linoleumshake 2 years ago 2
cavalier and cobalt were just a down right plain piece of shit in comparison to the civic. I don't know how you label it as better. Feature wise but they didn't make it in a lot of category's. This car shouild improve alot of things. But a turbo charged 1.4? That thing will fall apart in less that 20k miles. Thats like asking for trouble.
EpiDemic117 2 years ago
Simplicity doesn't always equal inferiority. The civic hasn't been terrible, but it has never been anything special... I won't argue this with you, I guess it's all subjective. The engine will be bullet-proof if it's anything like the most recent GM engines out there... The mpg war is taking its toll on the good engines out there, though.
