I bought a 2010 rzr new June 2010.I have changed or replaced the air cleaner after every ride, installed a uni 2 stage filter to replace the junk paper filter. After 492mi, I am looking at a engine rebuild and an after market air box.In hope of fixing the built in defect Polaris has contiued to manufacter into these machines.THANKS ,POLARIS FOR NOT STANDING BEHIND YOUR PRODUCTS! We can only hope the other utv manufactures will produce a trail utv.Polaris has shamed the made in U.S.A logo!
That dust has to be getting in at one or both ends of the filter where it meets the airbox lid or the end that is clamped, or maybe even at the edges of the filter material. All these areas I mentioned should be greased with a heavy grease to keep dust out. Dust always makes it's way in those areas first. Picking up my new RZR today, and i'm gonna grease the areas I talked about before I ride it any. I'll let you know how it goes. I think the ends of the filter are the problem.
you shoudent have to buy shit polaris needs to make beter stuff thats y i have honda i dont have problems and did u not no polaris has all was sucked ass
I thought I had mine fixed with an Amsoil filter in the air box, snorkels up past the roll cage with a UNI filter on top of that, and an outerwear pre-filter over the UNI...I was wrong. After an extremely dusty ride, I got back and my filter was packed solid and there was a little dust inside of the throttle body. I really hope I didnt burn up my piston rings (its not burning oil so I think Im OK). Now I guess its time to re-think my setup. Do you have any pics or video of your new setup?
We fixed our problem with a complete air system off a T-190 Bobcat..Less than 200 bucks. Plus Polaris did step up and authorize my dealer to put me in a new top end under warranty.
You need to get the CYCLONE ULTRA filter by BTI Performance Products . Just google the name. You will not get any dirt in your filter plus it has 494% more surface area and more air flow which means more power!!!
I have the same problem with my 3 week old RZR. With stock and after market filters (Uni). Did you ever get a response from Polaris? I have talked to my dealer and tried to talk to Polaris directly, but not fix. Can't get anyone from Polaris on the phone/email. I only have a little over 100miles on mine and am now afraid to drive it. Dust into the engine will not have a good result and probably blow up right after the warranty expires.
Word get around and if Polaris dosn't take care of the issue they will be losing customers one by one. My gen 3 rzr had dirt inside the intake after just two hours of use, maybe they think it's a way to break in your engine faster!!?? I tried contacting Polaris several times about my issue with no response (WHAT GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE)!! I have now just purchased a kmh air intake I hope it will solve my problem. Good luck to you all who have one on order!
Have you contacted Polaris? Have they offered a solution? Are they redesigning it? If not, is there anything WE (the consumer) can do to fix the problem? Will snorkels help or eliminate the problem? Thanks for posting the video. I am about to purchase one.
i think it is because the intake is right beside the tire that is a stupid place to have it in my opinion becasue it is just sucking all the shit the tire throws up. but polaris rzr r dope
you could try and put the air filter intake on a snorkel and have the air intake above your head with a 90 degree albow at the top facing sideways. I wouldnt have it facing forward due to intake tract noise when you get into the throttle, and I wouldnt have it facing backwards for fear that it would suck in dust for the turbulence behind the machine. Just my 2 cents, and make sure you get the tube large enough if you do this.
I know what you mean I would also want popo to fix this. But if yours is the only case of this (and thats what they'll probably say) it may be up to you to fix.

I'd just make a snorkel so it's up and out of the mud and dust kicked up by the wheel

If your getting dirt past the UNI filter and the UNI is a dual stage filter your either using the wrong filter oil or not oiling it right.
Try maxima FFT "Foam Filter Treatment" you wont be getting dust past the filter.
I would filter the air going into the air box if it was my 3k engine I was protecting pre-filtering is the only way to go offroad.
Thanks for the info
