  • It's amusing that after achieving independence the USA's first national anthem used the same tune as God Save the King; and their first national flag was the Grand Union Flag which was based on the British East India Company - both of which contained in them a Union Flag.

  • GUYS. STOP CREATING STUPID ARGUMENTS ABOUT WHOSE ANTHEM IT IS; THE TUNE CAME FROM ENGLAND, BUT LYRICS ARE FOR EACH COUNTRY. AND BOTH COUNTRIES ARE AMAZING IN THEIR OWN WAYS. STOP.

Thank you. :) God bless America and UK.

  • my country tis of thee

    my job is misery

    life disappointed me

    i'm 53

  • @GLucas3007 O Canada!

    Our home and native land!

True patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,

The True North strong and free!

    From far and wide,

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

  • @catchatyou I'm American (And proud as heck about it =) ) but I actually know all the words to the Canadian anthem because I'm a huge hockey fan and hear it before almost every game. The best part is the OHHHHHHHHHHH CAAAAAAAAAAANAAAAAADAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! hahaha

  • @sopranoms I am American, and I can promise you America is NOT the best country in the world. I guarantee you have never even been out of the US you brainwashed tool.

  • @R00BZZ Ummm... wow. For one, that's totally subjective - you can't call someone a "brainwashed tool" for having a different opinion from you. Two, America's huge so you can't judge for the entirety of the country. Three, any first world western civilization is a pretty nice place to live regardless.

Still believe your bold, yet completely close-minded statement?

  • @phamtom187 It has the same melody of the British national anthem god save the queen

  • The best song ever! :')

  • Thumbs up if you believe America can be great again.

  • @bleeborg I believe America is still great. Some bad government decisions don't define a country to me.

  • @MezaseMaster I'm glad to hear that and I agree fully. I'm just hoping that this November this country will see a change for the best.

  • @bleeborg I think this should be our national anthem :D

  • Any body who says this is a great american patriotic song is a retard the tune is of god save the queen that was wrote long before the americas and FYI Great Britain invented democracy in 1215 at the signing of the magna carter

  • @Bashyboyash Ummm, what do its origins have to do with anything? It is a great (subjective, of course) patriotic song even if it came from God Save the Queen. I'm pretty sure our national anthem is set to a British tune as well.

  • @DukeMaster94 //nodnod we just added several changes to it.

  • CRIMES; Count 1 - Invasion of Privacy. Count 2 - Continuing Crucifixion of ANGELINA DIMAURO since February 16, 1994. Today is Monday, January 30, 2012 (C.E.), 1:00 AM (Earth-Eastern Standard Time)

  • I love America <3

  • GOD SAVE OUR GRAAACIOUS QUEEN etc

  • WAIT!!!!! GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Heil dir im Siegeskranz

  • God save our Queen

  • let FREEDOM ring....without giving up our civil LIBERTIES or denying others theirs

War is for profiteers...Love is for everyone

  • I'm proud to be an American. Our military gives me hope, from those first militia men in the 1700s to the proud servants of the people today. We owe the men and women who have devoted themselves to protecting our freedoms to vote and ensure that the people are heard, and that our rights are protected. God bless America.

  • i thout there was only ONE verse 2 the song. they only tought one verse in school. i dony know why they dony teach us god save the queen, since we are good friends with britian. i have a british pen pal that said her teachers teach my country tis of thee.

  • Apparently I'll let the record speak for itself. Apparently it's all you need to give a heads up to New York before Fagomatics "men" take "you down, man!"

  • Went to Fargo and Grand Forks a couple of times over the decades. Not like there's anything there.... not counting those gorgeous silos and Sevs.

  • 24,000 Euros please.

    Why Euros? Why not?

  • i salute you USA, you will always be Friends of the United Kingdom!

  • Let Freedom Ring? I thought it was God Save The Queen! YEAH!

  • @albem89

Nope. The tune is used by five countries currently, and the Tune originated as the "Heil Dir Im Siegerklanz", the German Imperial Anthem. So no, its not "God Save The Queen", its "Heil Dir Im Siegerklanz". We both stole it, but it was from the germans :P

  • Thepatriot you are right. Ron paul is our only hope

  • good video very helpful its a good one it sings good it is not one of the radeo version

  • Thats not God save the Queen. Its My Country Tis of Thee, and this tune also goes for other songs including Heil Dir in Seigerkranz But this tune is popularized by the UK national anthem, but it is not trully a British tune. It's anonymous of origin.

  • @shiptech2k9 The British like claiming things that aren't actually theirs. =| Such as claiming a monopoly on the word football (which is a group of sports) as a meaning of soccer (which is what it was called in Britain before it was called football).

The world is full of hypocrites nowadays.

  • God save our gracious Queen,

    Long live our noble Queen,

    God save the Queen:

    Send her victorious,

    Happy and glorious,

    Long to reign over us:

    God save the Queen. <3

  • @BekiHeffron wrong video mate! :D

  • about the song n flag colors, 1)Many of Englands former colonies have the same colors on their flag2)the melody is the same as GSTQ. this song was when we were still starting out.

yes, my beautiful nation has divided n lost sight of what it was created 4. If we stop being stubborn, we could get out of the mess we made for ourself. Americans, stop complaining n show how you feel in the voting booth! When I get that chance, I will do everything to get my country back on track.

  • Everyone stop hating on England AND America. Both r wonderful, and have made mistakes. If we continue to bicker like old ladies then we'll never be at peace? I'm American, and I LOVE my country, nI love all the other countries in the world too. I might not be gaga over England, but others arent fond of America either. So lets all sit back n listen to this beautiful song k? If I have any objections, you'll have to deal with a Celtic-Spanish-Southern Italian-Lebanese American, so DONT test me, Si?

  • GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!

  • >Wage a bloody revolution against your tyrannical, imperialist oppressor

    >Write a patriotic song for your new country that completely rips off your former oppressor's national anthem

  • @Aetheilas

Only to find out that the English ripped the Tune off of the Germans who used it for hundreds of years before the English as their Imperial Anthem.

  • i love this sooooo much i would die

  • When I first heard "God Save the Queen" I wasn't paying attention to the first few lines and for a few seconds I thought they were singing "My country tis of thee"

  • Raj Koothrapali sent me here

  • I'm not american, i am italian, then my opinion doesn't matter, but i think that this song is better than the current hymn The Star-Spangled Banner.

  • Hold on, that's God Save The Queen

  • @MattRhys20 "My Country, 'Tis of Thee", also known as "America", is an American patriotic song, whose lyrics were written by Samuel Francis Smith. The melody used is the British national anthem, "God Save the Queen", arranged by Thomas Arne and used by many members of the Commonwealth of Nations. America, get your own stuff..

  • @CommodoreRyan nearly 250 years of independence and they don't have their own tune for their songs, their own language or their own colours on their flag. What was the point in the Boston Tea Party if they didn't do everything themselves?

  • @MattRhys20 Not sure what Colonists dumping tea into the ocean has to do with this song. This song was written in 1831 as a de facto National Anthem before The Star Spangled Banner became the anthem after we beat the British in the War of 1812. Our flag colors can be explained by George Washington "We take the stars from Heaven, the red from our mother country, separating it by white stripes, showing we have separated from her."

  • @MattRhys20 Because we didn't declare independence because we wanted to make a new language, new songs and a new flag? Guess that never crossed your mind.

  • @CommodoreRyan Typical British smugness. :)

  • @CommodoreRyan

England could do the same too ya know if you wanna play it that way... ;)

  • @MattRhys20 Yes, you're right.

  • @MattRhys20 You are right and not :) It is the melody of the former german emporer hymn.

  • @MattRhys20 Wrong!! It is God Save The Queen with lyrics 10x's better!!!!!!!!

  • @MattRhys20 just the instrumental part

  • @MattRhys20 That's the idea.

  • @MattRhys20 Yes, we stole your song just like you stole our democracy. ;P

  • @MattRhys20 REVAMPED FOR AMERICA!

  • I love this song.....i feel i have a great connection with american people....idk...why??

  • Wait... this sounds a lot like England's national anthem. Did we just remix "God Save the Queen"? :u

  • i love that song.

  • LONG MAY OUR LAND BE BRIGHT WITH FREEDOM'S HOLY LIGHT! PROTECT US BY THY MIGHT GREAT GOD OUR KING!

  • What happened to the US? It used to be such a great country...

  • @eafanboyssuck We've spent WAY more than we have. You can't run a business like that, and you most certainly can't run a country like that.

  • @eafanboyssuck The US used to be so powerfull but it just forgot the last verse of this song as well as the last verse of "The Star Spangled Banner".

  • @eafanboyssuck The US used to be a powerfull nation but it appears to have forgotten the last verse of this song as well as the last verse of "The Star Spangled Banner" and what's written on the money.

  • @eafanboyssuck

"United we stand, divided we fall". Well, the U.S. let itself be divided. Democrat and Republican, Christian and Atheist, pro-life and pro-choice, homegrown and immigrants, rich and poor. It will fall because Americans refuse to band together and instead villainize their neighbours because of ideology, social standing or whatever other reason they can find.

  • @eafanboyssuck nothing happened to the US...it is still a great and amazing country and I am proud to say "I am an American"

  • @eafanboyssuck It still can be, it just needs a lot of fixing...

  • @eafanboyssuck It is still the best country in the world.

  • @sopranoms Totally agree with you there, as far as I know anyway. America's done me nothing but good. France is full of impatient drivers, hahah.

  • This is our country!

  • I love this song, America is my home.

  • @Goyankees01CP I'm going to audition for All-County Choir in a little bit and I have to sing this and I'm nervous!

  • I'm embarssed.... I had to sing this accapella for the Lousisana All State Chior audition, I couldn't even get a word out... I sounded worse than Rebecca Black.. now I feel like I let America down... my grandpa was in World War II

  • sounds awfully like god save our queen

  • @TheQuirkyGiraffe That's probably because it's set to the same melody, R-Tard.

  • @TheQuirkyGiraffe 'Cept we aren't kissing some queen's lardy ass.

  • @IdentNone hahaha :)

  • Hmm I don't hate other countries or there people, and the comment I had was to a English man who was hating on Americans. I stick up for my country just as anyone else would, so if you have a problem with that go tell some other countrymen they are crazy to follow there leaders, and then you should make your own country! I am not Racist to anything all most all my friends are of different race

  • Who did this arrangement?

  • The root cause of WWII's European Theatre was the people who drafted the Treaty of Versailles being more concerned with assigning blame than establishing lasting peace. The Treaty was so unbalanced that it sent Germany into the Great Depression a full decade ahead of the rest of the world. A desperate people are often willing to overlook moral shortcomings in those who promise them prosperity, which is what the Nazi Regime did.

  • As for my opinion:

This arrangement of "My Country Tis of Thee" is the best I have heard for this tune regardless of which song it was being used for.

"The Star Spangled Banner", while an okay piece of music in its own right, is a poor choice for a National Anthem.

"God Save the King/Queen" is an okay choice for a Royal Anthem, not so much as a National Anthem.

I wish the United States actually lived upto the lyrics of "My Country Tis of Thee".

  • Based on my research:

The tune is mostly likely of English Origin, possibly composed by John Bull.

By modern standards, it would have been in the public domain long before it was popularized as a English National/Royal Anthem.

The tune has been borrowed countless times and had countless songs set to it.

The lyricist for "My Country Tis of Thee" burrowed the tune from a German source, under orders to either translate the German into English or write new lyrics.

  • Same!!!

  • I have to sing this song in an audition to get into the honor choir. Im so excited!

  • @catchatyou Who is singing this song!? I'd like the arrangement for my choir at school, and I can't find it anywhere. Info please!

  • Who's singing?

  • @onebiggawigga Hitler was ticked off of how the Allies treated Germany after WWI, so Hitler ripped up the documents, and invaded Poland. Hitler/Germany began WWII by invading Poland.

France and England sat back when Germany made the smaller invasions on Czechoslovakia, the land between Germany and France (I think it was called the Rhineland) and allied with Austria. The invasion on Poland is when France and England declared war, too bad it was too late. So you're sort of right.

  • @catchatyou Yeah Allies meaning France and England, America gave Germany gold so America was actually somewhat an ally to Germany thats why we remained Nuetral

  • @onebiggawigga I'm not sure how much we were friends with Germany in WWI, but in WWII, we were completely against what they were doing. Remember D-Day?

  • @catchatyou of course i do, the biggest war invasion ever

  • @catchatyou to get this straight: America never really was an ally of Germany. Not in WWI and not in WWII. Afterwards they supported the reconstruction of West-Germany. period.

  • @catchatyou what about ussr???????????????

  • @catchatyou

there was strong support for hitler in america as well. charles lindbergh f.ex. was an admirer of hitler. thanks god it stopped, once japan and germany formed the axis and american interests were threatened in the pacific.

  • @onebiggawigga you have no right! the only reason those wars started was from missunderstandings of stupid grown men! in the revolutionary the reason the taxes were placed were because the bristish had just gone to war and finishes with the french so shut up! and they dont hate us cause they forgave us anf we have a treetee with france! and england who cares!!!!!!!! thats all in the past so shut up and enjoy the music!

  • Comment removed

  • @onebiggawigga :-D funny history lesson

  • @onebiggawigga ohgawd, just because you are American DOES NOT mean you have to go around hating other countries. God made everyone equally, so don't go around being a troll. Hey, I'm American, but I have family from there, so watch your mouth!

  • @onebiggawigga Here Here!!! The United States killed a beautiful song "God Saved the Queen," and turn it into this. This was originally written for the Queen. It is "God Saved the Queen," and not Our country tis of thee. This country is nothing but weak.

  • @streetcarjay Agreed on ruining God Save the Queen. America is far from weak though.

  • @streetcarjay Strongest nation in the world is weak. Don't know how much they'll hold that title, but America is still many times more powerful than several European countries put together.

  • @onebiggawigga England Loves America, and France is Our Greatest Ally!

  • wow didnt know some people could argue so much over a song.

  • this melody did NOT originate in britain, it actually comes from the german kaiserhymne "heil dir dem siegerkranz"

  • love the song

  • do it with recorders and that brown noise! hooray!

  • omg i have to sing this in choir uhhh

  • wake up fellow americans we must start a revolution obama and his colleagues are the false patriot our forefathers warned us about, we must start a civil war!!!

  • Well I'm Scottish, I think the lyrics are beautiful, even though its an old French anthem stolen by the English, every word has great meaning, no wonder it fills Americans with such pride.

  • I was VERY surprised to see the Gateway Arch as the first picture. I'm from around STL, and I never see us in major movies or video games, let alone much of anything. We are a pretty big city, but don't get much attention.

  • My country tis of the

    Sweet land of liberty

    Of the I sing

    Land where my fathers died

    Land of the Pilgrims pride

    From every mountain side

    God save the Queen

  • In Honouring the Sovereign one is honouring the whole country. The more imperialistic idea is to have English Anthems to represent the whole of the UK.

  • i love this song!

  • wow, they were really goin for it at the end there. jeez. haha

  • GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!

  • @bzcrouse92 I hope God saves you!

  • @1AdrianR I have no problem with England or their political system, so why are you complaining about a song that was written years ago?

It's a SONG. The only song that I know of that arises this much hate is Baby by Justin Beiber. All I can say is, GROW UP.

  • @1AdrianR I am not stating that Americans today have adverse sentiments towards the English or their political system, but when this and the Star Spangled Banner were 'introduced' there were. I was stating the irony that the United States, while fighting against British rule and eventually celebrating their freedom (which is continually celebrated on July 4th), used British songs, even their national anthem for their own glorification. I am not hating anything.

  • @1AdrianR

okay frist thing frist, dont talk bad bout america. second totaly differnt songs ,if you think we stole them , then why ont you do some resaerch. cause if im no ikno im right, america bought those melodys.

  • @annegauden96 I have dealt with this issue as politely as possible without insulting you or America. I stated my opinion of the irony. I have not been immature in any of my responses. Recognize that people are allowed to state their opinions on music.

  • @1AdrianR

okay frist thing frist, dont talk bad bout america. second totaly differnt songs ,if you think we stole them , then why ont you do some resaerch. cause if im no ikno im right, america bought those melodys. also, we cant chage history even if im wrong and we stole. GROW UP ALREADY. im most likely younger then and im more mature.

  • @1AdrianR I think our Versions are much better dont you? Someones still got there panties in a twist over losing lol.....

  • @1AdrianR ---

Your statement is pathetic. How much has the world copied off us? That was Rhetorical by the way.

  • @1AdrianR ---

Being from Canada you of all people should know of what I speak.

  • @1AdrianR ok now what did i think you said...humm well im british so i have no problem but for one reason i live in the us ok if you want to make fun of our country go right away but thats no reason for you to come up for something stupid so we dont need a snotty british person to say crap about our country your gonna get hurt ok so shutup WE OUR WAY TO COOL FOR Y'ALL AND WHY ARE YOU LOOKING THIS SONG UP ANYWAY????HAHA OH YAH BC YOU ARE STUPID SO FUCK OFF OUR COUNTRY

  • @1AdrianR You suck

  • @1AdrianR well if you knew history you would know that The Star Spangled Banner did not get a "melody" till much later. When F.S. Key wrote it on the British ship, it was a poem. It had no melody.

  • @wellletsseewatisgood I did know that, thank you, that is why I only mentioned the melody is 'stolen'.

  • @1AdrianR well you Brits didn't say we couldn't come up with anything our self's when we invented electricity, the airplane, the light bulb, the steam engine, landed on the moon, invented the rifle, and the worlds strongest military, and oh ya and the computer, ext. ext. ext. And as for your "melodies" listen to "courtesy of the red, white and blue" by Toby Keith that's an all American song and as for the "star spangled banner" and "my country tis of thee" we just made improvements to them!

  • @leedaydday1999 I am not referring to inventions, however, by the way, Americans did not invent the steam engine, do some research. Furthermore, this is hardly an improvement to God Save the Queen, which recognizes and celebrates the country's history and the head of state.

  • @1AdrianR we mass produced the steam engine and all motorized vehicles and further more it is an improvement because this song celebrates 335 years of freedom from an tyrannical head of state (Britain's king gorge 3rd ), and also a government of the people (which consists of leaders who only get their power because the people want them to lead) and your song is simply worshiping a person because of their family. We do have a song to recognize our head of state to it's called "all hale the chief"

  • @leedaydday1999 Yes, mass producing is quite different from inventing. Furthermore (one word), claiming that King George (with and 'e') III was a 'tyrannical head of state' is a completely biased view of him based off of the references to him in your Constitution. Regarding our 'song' (national anthem, though not official), it celebrates over 1000 years of history in which Britain, under the leadership of monarchs such Elizabeth I, prospered as a world power. We appreciate their family because..

  • @1AdrianR Forget the monarchy, north of the border, useless, expensive waste of space. The descendants of Mafia godfathers, and robbing Barons, Oliver Cromwell was before his time. One day we will get a Parliament that will get rid of them and send them back to Germany.

  • @Albanorthstar I hoped not to have to continue to comment here, but I must defend the Monarchy. The Monarchy is an institution which, as a constitutional monarchy, serves the country and represents the people and has done so exceptionally well in the past century. Who would rather have representing the country, our Prime Ministers or Queen Elizabeth II? She does her duty with integrity has represented the people remarkably well. They are hte only people with the experience to advise...

  • @1AdrianR In Scotland we had no Elizabeth the First until 1953, and no choice in the matter either. For as much as you are a true and Patriotic Englishman, and I respect you for that, you will never convince me that any sort of morarchy is preferable to an elected Head of State.

  • @Albanorthstar Well thank you for consistently replying to me civilly and with respect for what I believel. I respect you as a Scot and for sticking to what you believe.

  • @1AdrianR Thank you my dear English cousin, I enjoyed our little chat, we are both still Btitish and proud of it.

  • @Albanorthstar You are very welcome and thank you, I also enjoyed it.

  • @Albanorthstar They are the only people able to advise the Prime Ministers without a political agenda and with large amounts of experience, allowing them to represent and advocate for the people. Oliver Cromwell wasn't massively different from monarchs of the time. He, like a monarch, was succeeded by his son without a vote and continued the religious campaigns. By the way, all Britons are descended from Germanic peoples.

  • @1AdrianR Sorry only the Anglo-Saxons have Germanic descent, who were indeed preceeded by the true Britons. Of which I may be descended. If Prime Ministers want to know what the public think, the last person to ask would be Queen Elizabeth,

  • @Albanorthstar Queen Elizabeth does receive public letters and reads a selection of them each morning. She may seem out-of-touch, but I don't believe that is entirely the case. Furthermore, no one, absolutely no one else has the experience of a monarch, especially Elizabeth II. She has advised and known every Prime Minister since 1952. If we are to debate the ancestry of Britons, of which I am one, the original humans were destroyed in the first Ice Age and the land repopulated by Iberians.

  • ...of her service to our nation, the commonwealth and the world.

  • @1AdrianR We write patriotic songs about our country, not a monarch. :)

  • @RevengeOfTheKaizer The monarch is the embodiment of the country.

  • @1AdrianR yes...but we could still obliterate England XD

  • @1AdrianR Its from a German song. And your an ass, coming on to what is an AMERICAN patrotic song, and hating on it. We came from England, meaning that all the settlers did at one point have English pride, so its only natural to have it show up every once in a while. Get over yourself, because not everything thats British came from britian.

  • @1AdrianR i feel sorry for you.

  • The Fearless Leader had No Idea to the Protocol of being Silent during A National Anthem

  • Dude, this is the same tune as England's national anthem....

  • @egao95 Weird Al has the same tune to a bunch of songs, and a lot of people like Weird Al's version better. Now what's your point?

  • @egao95 i just noticed that today yo!!! i got a buncha friends over in the UK and they like hearing me sing & they keep asking me to sing "God save the queen"....here we thought "My country tis of thee" was an original only to find out it's nothing but a cheap rip off....i think that is what egao95 was getting at catchatyou...

  • @egao95 your point being?

  • Our Fathers God to Thee

    Author of Liberty

    To Thee We Sing

This has just got to make a godless progressive puke.

  • @jbranstetter04 must political insults be brought into every american-related comment board?

  • @FretsonFireMuse Yes, pretty much. When the United States of America is under attack from those who would see her change into something that she is not and has never been, then yes, we need to bring it up whenever we have the chance to.
