SOOOOO TRUE. We (riders) risk our lives every time we saddle up and go for a ride. You can die in any moment. But you still do it no matter what. You love it, you trust to your best friend (horse) and you just live that kind of life. You can't live without it.

Yes I have tried to Control a 12 hunderd pound animal i failed becuse she showed me that double bridles and whips and hard Kicks don't work against and animal that could take advantage of you anytime and kill you Instead she showed me love and I showed it to her back and got rid of all that horrible tack and now we have something stronger then a double bridle bit a stick or a hard kick or yell now we have a bond that keeps us toghether forever that I would never trade.
Some of the kids in my class need to watch this! They say all you do is sit there, well that is certainly not true. I told the kid that said that get on a horse and get it to do a piaffe, passage, and levade and tell me all you do is sit there. I think they should have to watch this video about 30 times a day to get it beaten in their head.

This video gave me chills. It`s so true. Okay I too am not much of a fan for Western but you still have to have skill. I think it's funny how people (teachers included) ask me what sports I play and I tell them horse back riding and softball. And they go Horse back riding that's not a sport. But let me tell you that doesn't make me happy.

Of course it is! Any discipline in horse riding is classed as 'Equitation' therefore yes, it is an Equestrian discipline :)
If you meant that it isn't a 'Sport' then that isn't true either as it is practised in many different countries all over the world and there are events where people compete against one another in this discipline from all over the world. So it is also a sport.
@showjumpergirl11 Western is just as much riding as any other. You're still controlling a 1500 pound animal, as raythegoth says, and you're still relying on him. You still can create a wonderful bond with your horse, and there are lots of upsides to western. I've done a lot of english huntseat and a bit of western, and the western riders are as horse crazy as we are. They get to enjoy more relaxing rides than us sometimes, which I find to be very important. Yet western riders still go quickly.

This is one of the BEST horse vids on here! =) I ride western for pleasure but I've have had to trust one of the Hardest horses I've ever ridden before and we barrel race, Jump, Do the poles (all western) and She is amazing but she can turn MEAN at the end of the lesson.
Show jumping isn't the only Equestrian sport dear, there is such a wide range and yes Western and Horse Racing are included, why else would people be competing in them world wide?
Nope, there are many Equine sports but Eventing (showjumping, cross country and dressage) are the most talked about and are olympic level sports but there is such a broad range of Equine sports reining, barrel racing, horse racing (grand national, kentucky Derby etc) there's also driving competitions, like for Carridge horses and stuff :)
This TOTALLY tells people who don't know how hard it is that it isn't even one bit easy in the long run. I also agree that this IS a sport, unlike the people who don't ride. For fun is one thing, but competing is a whole different matter.

This is SUCH an awsome video! There's a guy at school who's all "Horseback riding isn't a lot of work... you don't do anything. At all." When I gave him the evil eye and asked him if he'd ever rode before, I was kinda surprised when he said yes. I asked him where that was, and he replied, "Oh, at a carnival. A guy held the reins for me and led this pony around with me on its back." Well, there's your problem.

alright, LeaderStorm, then explain exactly why so many people die and sustain terrible injuries in barrel racing, trail riding, racing, cart driving, hunter jumper events, and countless other "non-dangerous" disciplines. working with 1000-2000 lb. animals is never safe... of course, we love to do it anyways! ♥
I said if you have a safe horse and sure footing like my horse would never purposefully hurt me I trust him with my life thank you very much plus I said Barrel Racing and racing wouldn't be so dangerous if idiots would learn to train there horses when they are at least four so they can finish growing
and I know any kind of racing is dangerous but trail rides are not if you have the right animal and your right I love to put my trust in my baby and I do trust him with my life
unless it has been abused or neglected, i doubt most horses would try to hurt anyone on purpose. all my horses are very safe with steady feet and all were gentled at a very young age and began training at age 5. and yet they have panicked and hurt people before. i trust my Morgan mare Cassi more than anything, even though my mother broke her back when Cassi spooked. and i agree that racehorses are trained far too young. but not barrel horses.
I once had a mare that intentionally tried to hurt people (We sold her) but Barrel Horses are insane because all they do (Most of them anyway) is run so they always want to run and act crazy my horse does barrels but he also does English pleasure and jumping so he isn't insane but I saw a horse in my 4-h that actually hurt people because he was so psycho if barrel people would do more things like pleasure or something they would be fine but they don't or they trail ride and run the whole trail

Come on guys! I'm an English rider but I have ridden western before... WESTERN RIDERS ARE EQUESTRIANS! It's not just US English rider THEY are too!
So stop knocking them! Anyone basically riding a horse/pony for over a couple months and truly loves it is an EQUESTRIAN so learn the definition!

They get to enjoy more relaxing rides than us sometimes, which I find to be very important. Yet western riders still go quickly.

anyway i also have had to deal with people saying that riding is not a sport and its easy and the horse does all the work. rider and horse are partners in this equally thrilling, beautiful, amazing SPORT :)

This is one of the BEST horse vids on here! =) I ride western for pleasure but I've have had to trust one of the Hardest horses I've ever ridden before and we barrel race, Jump, Do the poles (all western) and She is amazing but she can turn MEAN at the end of the lesson.

well they've never tried it.
Although they can be wild at times but they are truly gifted animal.
they're undescribable creatures really!

Show jumping isn't the only Equestrian sport dear, there is such a wide range and yes Western and Horse Racing are included, why else would people be competing in them world wide?

Nope, there are many Equine sports but Eventing (showjumping, cross country and dressage) are the most talked about and are olympic level sports but there is such a broad range of Equine sports reining, barrel racing, horse racing (grand national, kentucky Derby etc) there's also driving competitions, like for Carridge horses and stuff :)

@raythegoth Eventing is the combination of those three disciplines. Dressage and show jumping are also individually Olympic events.

This TOTALLY tells people who don't know how hard it is that it isn't even one bit easy in the long run. I also agree that this IS a sport, unlike the people who don't ride. For fun is one thing, but competing is a whole different matter.

they go around in circles.
to make one turn, we use five different aids. and if we don't remember, the horse doesn't bend, the horse doesn't turn.
not an easy sport by any means. good video!

i TOTALLY agree lol its sooo true! 2 of my guy friends and my bff Caitlin is coming over today and i wanna take them to the barn because one of the guys (quintin) he says all u do is sit in the saddle and say :"COME ON HORSEY!" so i wanna take them to the barn and show em' how hard it is...my pony is ALWAYS bad when ppl go and see him -.- its annoying lol

This is SUCH an awsome video! There's a guy at school who's all "Horseback riding isn't a lot of work... you don't do anything. At all." When I gave him the evil eye and asked him if he'd ever rode before, I was kinda surprised when he said yes. I asked him where that was, and he replied, "Oh, at a carnival. A guy held the reins for me and led this pony around with me on its back." Well, there's your problem.

WHOA, well done and so true! I heard of someone making fun of jockeys saying "What they get paid to sit on a horse for 2 minutes, they aren't athletes!" I was sooo mad, they have no idea of the danger, practice, preperationa nd suffering that goes into what we love to do! Well done!

alright, LeaderStorm, then explain exactly why so many people die and sustain terrible injuries in barrel racing, trail riding, racing, cart driving, hunter jumper events, and countless other "non-dangerous" disciplines. working with 1000-2000 lb. animals is never safe... of course, we love to do it anyways! ♥

unless it has been abused or neglected, i doubt most horses would try to hurt anyone on purpose. all my horses are very safe with steady feet and all were gentled at a very young age and began training at age 5. and yet they have panicked and hurt people before. i trust my Morgan mare Cassi more than anything, even though my mother broke her back when Cassi spooked. and i agree that racehorses are trained far too young. but not barrel horses.

I once had a mare that intentionally tried to hurt people (We sold her) but Barrel Horses are insane because all they do (Most of them anyway) is run so they always want to run and act crazy my horse does barrels but he also does English pleasure and jumping so he isn't insane but I saw a horse in my 4-h that actually hurt people because he was so psycho if barrel people would do more things like pleasure or something they would be fine but they don't or they trail ride and run the whole trail
