Amazing...I also never knew there was any footage with Beckett talking. It just seemed so totally unlike his entire character, his entire writing history...
One of the greatest human beings to walk his Earth. I loved your work more than any other writer Mr. Beckett. God will envy and be in awe of your work!
Well, he was from Foxrock, which is just about a mile from Dun Laoghaire. I suppose I;m not as surprised about that as about the fact that, even after living in Paris for almost fifty years, his accent hadn't faded.
In my experience, living in a foreign country does nothing to one's native accent, because the English Beckett would have heard most when he spoke it I'm guessing would have been family and friends back in Ireland.
Marvellous to hear him finally. I searched off and on for the last few years for a recording of his voice. Now here he is in video. Thanks. One of the rarest finds on youtube.
My god I have written to James Knowlson just to see if I could hear Beckett's voice. This means a lot (whoever posted this) Thank you so much for this. Please don't withdraw it. Merci bien encore.
Me too! I was in touch with Reading University Beckett centre but they wouldn't send me a recording of course. I would have had to go there. Never made it. This is a rare video indeed!
Very moved, thank you for posting. Especially the fact it's my very first to actually hearing his voice!!. He's always been a part of my life since I walked into "that" book store many years ago.
Thank you soooo much for posting this !
Beckett changed my life when i first discovered his works. It's incredible to hear his voice. One of the greatest human of the last century for sure.

Always wanting to be able to see and hear Beckett speak- this is over the moon... how 'bout his expressive, elegant hands as he talks-?
Beckett, at almost 80- a healthy, strong, emphatic presence
This cheers and inspires me.

This is the first time I've seen Beckett on film! Like others, I had done searches in the past and thought that no footage existed.
I'll join everyone in thanking you so much for making this available.

The novels, plays, poems, and criticism have meant so much for so long that it's wonderful finally seeing the man himself.
Let us know when you find footage of Proust.

What answered Mr. Knowlson? Answered he? (Whether the Beckett Collection has a longer video about Beckett at all?) ;-)
ParnellMooney, thanks for the video.
