They just have to make a good game so there will be no need for any kind of expandion pack. And if they make a expansion they to make it like an update so you don't have to pay too much money like for all versions of the sims. I don't care about the graphics 2,5 dimesional will be the best. The thing about EA is they don't care. They are all about the bottom line. Dollar signs. And if they don't feel like it will make money. You can forget about sim city 5.
If they can make new Sims games, they can make a new SimCity. They can work with Ubisoft or Atari or 2K to make a new SimCity. They don't need Maxis. They can open a SimCity Division like The Sims Studio.
Maxis didn't go any where. They can make new one without Maxis or with Maxis. Just they don't want to make a new SimCity. I think in the future Google gonna buy the EA than we will see the new SimsCity. I want Trip Hawkins back to EA.

Natural Disasters: flooding, hurricanes, earthquakes, tornado, tsunami, etc. but like actual disasters, that come out of nowhere, and your city raises money to "rebuild" your city. I want that, to show how my city was a "strong" city. and to have definitive landforms, like desert, tropical, coastal, mountainous, etc.
i would love to see commodities like lumber, oil, coal, natural gas, iron, and aggregate added into the region, allowing individual towns and cities to generate wealth utilizing forestry, mining, fishing, drilling, and quarrying. It would be great if they could expand on the farming industry and yeild a specified crop, such as grains, fruits, vegetables, dairy, cash-crops, sugar, and meats. I want to see more advanced trade throughout the region, not just between neighboring cities.
The truth is that we almost have all of the things needed to make the SC game we all desire. Simcity 4 was truly great, only really lacking a non-grid system, graphics, including 3D. Cities XL 2011 got us closer. Cities XL 2012 is now announced. If they fixed the transportation network, and allowed for modding like buildings, they will be right on the money.

They should have a lot more of a variety of different things. We need to be able to create very different types of towns/cities. What I'm working on now is a major city near the ocean, and has different parts. It has a separate city with a boardwalk and rides (from custom content from simtropolis) and i find it rather difficult but fun. But, in SC5, they need to give us a huge list of theme park/carnival/pier rides for our nice little beach towns, AND THAT ACTUALLY MOVE WITH LIGHTS!

Have more of a variety in cities. Also tiles. I want to be able to have cities trade and be connected. I want the cities around the city you're playing in to still be growing. We need realistic highways, better transportation, and realistic traffic. In reality, highways are not desolate during the day, they're used 24/7. Suburban roads are not impossible to commute on to the main city. We just need an overall advanced SC4.
The thing I liked about SimCity 4 is that it was an economic simulator. It would be awesome if you could start a business that was subject to the demands of citizens and gov regulations that effect your city. Maby a regional gov that imposes reg on the entire region.
You could have heavy industry such as mining, logging etc. A private hospital that starts from a clinic and works its way up to an elaborate medical complex. Rental properties, Transportation, Manufacturing.

What is the deal about this "Cities XL"? I heard it was by Monte Cristo, I had a Monte Cristo game called City Life, but it didn't work...So why do all SC4 sites have CitiesXL stuff? I know they are both City Building games but I don't have CitiesXL.
let's face it's been 8 years since simcity 4 if ea cared about city building games they would already have simcity 5 out but instead they decided to focus on thier other games like battlefield
the thing is that, simcity 4 is a very very customizable game, you can almost customize it as you wish for, such as create your own building, road networks and etc...
And because of that, if EA is going to make simcity 5, the result would be almost the same as the simcity 4,
they only came with new or more extension and add ons. random events and richer graphics.

I really hope that Monte Crist never gave a single thought of the MMO aspect then they wouldn't go bankruptcy and continue to refine CXL. There're just so many ways to make money from players. Citybuilder MMO is just so wrong in so many ways.

I have been hoping that they will add natural resources into the game. I feel simcity has long ignored how important natural resources and nature is. Easy cities can have tons of oil reserves, or forests for logging, coal of export and such. Of course, poor environmental policies can lead to high pollution. Likewise, farms can lower cost of living due to cheaper food, making the city more attractive to middle class. Harder cities can be resource poor...ect There are so many things to add!

They just updated the registration on August 2nd, and the domain wont expire till August 6th 2012. That's a 12. Twelve.

Have more of a variety in cities. Also tiles. I want to be able to have cities trade and be connected. I want the cities around the city you're playing in to still be growing. We need realistic highways, better transportation, and realistic traffic. In reality, highways are not desolate during the day, they're used 24/7. Suburban roads are not impossible to commute on to the main city. We just need an overall advanced SC4.

The thing I liked about SimCity 4 is that it was an economic simulator. It would be awesome if you could start a business that was subject to the demands of citizens and gov regulations that effect your city. Maby a regional gov that imposes reg on the entire region.
You could have heavy industry such as mining, logging etc. A private hospital that starts from a clinic and works its way up to an elaborate medical complex. Rental properties, Transportation, Manufacturing.

SimCity 4 is still one of my favorite games. I was so excited when SimCity Societies came out that I bought 2 copies the day it came out. One for myself and one form my brothers birthday. Little did I know what I was buying.
KILL SimCity Societies I cant stand it!
I would love to see the graphics of Societies or Cities XL superimposed on SimCity 4 simulator. Cut the social engineering crap I don't want to micro-manage fake people's lives.

What is the deal about this "Cities XL"? I heard it was by Monte Cristo, I had a Monte Cristo game called City Life, but it didn't work...So why do all SC4 sites have CitiesXL stuff? I know they are both City Building games but I don't have CitiesXL.

Maxis, The founders of the simcity franchise has been resurected by EA and are now hiring new staff. A new simcity just may be on the cards.

I'm still playing SC 4 rush hour with some mods, Ive also got Cities xl 2011 and it's good but somehow I just cant get into it in the same way.

the thing is that, simcity 4 is a very very customizable game, you can almost customize it as you wish for, such as create your own building, road networks and etc...
And because of that, if EA is going to make simcity 5, the result would be almost the same as the simcity 4,
they only came with new or more extension and add ons. random events and richer graphics.
and all of the hard work to make simcity 5 would be pointless.

No the interface could be improved, new features could be added, new game modes, challenges, new everything. Your post takes a very narrow view of game development, especially when a big company is only really interested in money. The only question becomes would Sim City 5 sell, the answer is yes.

@paareth it should be updated because some mods might not work for people and end up breaking their sim city because their code is wrong and they will never be able to get on again unless backed up

You know, to be honest, I'd even be happy with just a sim city 4 patch for windows 7! that game was THE BEST! then there was societies that looked good on the trailers, but SUCKED HARDCORE. I want a mix of mainly simcity 4 and some cities xl.

@ashermamen234 You hit the nail right on the head when summarising the various Sim City versions. It's very sad EA/Maxis would never want to do SC5 so as to sidestep SC Societies as the TRUE successor to SC4, unless they pay attention to the said petition.

I really hope that Monte Crist never gave a single thought of the MMO aspect then they wouldn't go bankruptcy and continue to refine CXL. There're just so many ways to make money from players. Citybuilder MMO is just so wrong in so many ways.

I have been hoping that they will add natural resources into the game. I feel simcity has long ignored how important natural resources and nature is. Easy cities can have tons of oil reserves, or forests for logging, coal of export and such. Of course, poor environmental policies can lead to high pollution. Likewise, farms can lower cost of living due to cheaper food, making the city more attractive to middle class. Harder cities can be resource poor...ect There are so many things to add!
