Saw ur text review of gradius 2,and u said that its inferior to Gradius3 in terms of Gameplay.I disagree.1rtly,G3 supports lots of slowdown, and that alone hurts it.Also,G2 came before G3,so for me,G3 feels like a lazy rehash of G2 with several reused levels and bosses. Also,I find the level design in gradius II to be much more interesting.I still like G3.But giving G2 65% rating seemed a little harsh to me.anyways.....
@123doomdoom Well, that was my Turbo Duo review and I actually rated Gradius II on the Famicom a lot higher. Maybe I just expecting too much from the Super CD version.
@videogames101com I understand. But you can't really expect much more from it, because its very close conversion of the arcade game. So everything from the arcade was replicated in this Pc engine port.
Omg, the boss rushes. I hated those things, it was cool to see all those cool bosses in a row though. I hated that one boss that shot all those beams at you at once when he opend up, and the boss that shot all those millions of misiles right after that guy.
Whatever you do, don't do the konami code. I did it hopein for some help but then... up up down down left right left right b a start, then... just try it for yourself.
Dude, that was fuckin close with the giant asshole boss/piranha plant. great review. I never knew that secret, how exactly did you do it? just run into the wall?
Even with all the slowdown the SNES version had, I still think its the best version of Gradius III. It's a lot more playable and nowhere near as nasty as the Arcade version. I also think the SNES remixes sound a lot better than the Arcade music.
Looking back, this was my very first Gradius game....
Pffft... This game is not that hard... The arcade version is much MUCH MUUUUCH harder than this.

@Quartrez Totally agree, I played that version on the PSP Gradius Collection and it was just insane.

I just got this game for 4 bucks...but man the snes has shitty sprite processing.

@123doomdoom Yeah, I wish the flickering wasn't so bad but the awesome game play saves it at least for me.

Recycled gradius 1 from NES level at 3:25
ff8123 2 years ago
Yeah, it looks just like stage 3 from the NES game, eh?

great game and review
solnasonen 2 years ago 2
Thanks, it's one of my favourites for the Snes.

I remember getting a real sense of accomplishment out of beating that game.
IggyHazard 3 years ago 3
Congratulations there, it's not an easy game to beat.
starsoldier1 3 years ago
I take it you've also played Star Soldier? That was even harder if you ask me. I never did beat that one.
IggyHazard 3 years ago
I could never beat the original Star Soldier either. Just way too hard, eh?

^^
I love this game!!
5 stars!

You know, it would be a great idea if a Shump had slowdown on the easier challenge levels and none at all on the harder ones. ^_^

Nice Tommy Chong impression.

I like the slowdowns. If there's 100000000 bullets flyin at me, a little slowdown to improve my accuracy can be quite a useful handicap.
xgamer3000 3 years ago
I didn't think it was all too bad either especially in those later stages.

xgamer3000 3 years ago
Heh heh, yeah I know. There is a way to still do the cheat too.
starsoldier1 3 years ago
Yeah, it was like a screwed up version of the code. Wasn't it like, I can't remember.
xgamer3000 3 years ago
The code it pretty much the same but instead of hitting left and right on the Dpad you use the shoulder buttons.
starsoldier1 3 years ago
It really helped me, but you still have to try, you can only use it once per stage. At least it's more that gradius one gives you (1 per continue)
xgamer3000 3 years ago

xgamer3000 3 years ago
Thanks there. You just have to fly into the fire at that one spot but hitting the walls will still kill you though.
starsoldier1 3 years ago
Cause if you had to go into the wall, I was thinkin, who the hell tried that?
xgamer3000 3 years ago
It does look like I'm committing suicide there, eh? Konami hide these secrets in the oddest places.

Gradius is the best game ever!

It's definitely in my top ten for Snes games there in my opinion.

I perfer the Snes version too here. The arcade edition was just too damn hard.
starsoldier1 3 years ago
I like the brutal arcade version of this and the slightly less-brutal SNES version. The game definitely gets an A+ for graphics and music.
