  • Hahahaha this is an amazing piece of music, way ahead of it's time. Oh yeah turn up this song in the car while driving in the highway at night. Whoa what a rush

  • Awesome sound - love the 1:51 cry start and keyboard start at 2:01 until the end of the tune - first part of the tune is chaos second is very melodic - simply brillant !!!

  • @12345fowler Yeah, when I hear that, makes me think what a wicked experimental band this was..

  • Awesome remix.

  • The last minute of this song is simply amazing..;-)

  • i luv it!

  • Awesome instrumental :)

  • Fantastico tema, todavía lo recuerdo por aquellas discotecas de Valencia y Murcia, hoy en dia no hay tanta creatividad como entonces,me encanta.

  • An initial member likes propaganda. The sense is really good even if it listens now.

  • another great storytellers miami vice theresa

  • Mike Knowler used to play this in the State Club in Liverpool.... Back in 85, apparently there is a compilation cd out featuring the music he, Andy Carroll, Frank Cookson and Steve Proctor played . Likes of the Cult , Talking Heads, Cramps and B.A.D etc !!! Trying to find a copy! Top music.

  • Love it. Le gen dary!

  • Now this is fookin driving music at it's very best

  • I love thi song! One of the best songs ever, really....today i feel like this

  • This is true electronic music, none of that dubstep bullshit!!!

  • 今聴いてもメチャかっこいい!完璧。

    これ、もう30年くらい前だよね。

  • Please repent to Jesus christ! repent to our lord and pray to Jesus christ. repent today and live free tomorrow. gospel is freedom! prayers to Jesus stop addictions, depression, ect.. praise god helps save your souls

  • @bass109 Jesus is hairy. Like a monkey.

  • @bass109 What???

  • I always thought this track was Trevor Horn taking Duel and monkeying around with it a bit - a home-brewed remix. Horn and ZTT liked doing whole artist concept albums where they had the license and liberty to do that. The samples in this track sound like they were done on one of the first Emulator Models, cutting edge in those days. I think the string patches were PPG Wave 2P2. Great fun!

  • channel 4 american football @1988.

  • Outstanding piece of music. Its's like riding one crazy amusement park ride. FUUUN!

  • Great album cover art. One of the best 80's albums. Every track is excellent. Proud to call this music from 'My era"

  • Brilliant.

  • Das war noch MUSIK!!!!!!! yeahhhhh

  • This is one of my all time favorite albums - so ahead of its time, brilliant percussion and melodies.

  • Art of Noise was inspired by this song for sure!

  • I think this was their best, I love playing this over and over again.

for those that dont agree that's fine, you can express an opinion as I am.

  • I have the LP.. yeaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!

  • NR 1!

  • LOVE THIS ALBUM!!!

    What ever happened to them!!!??

  • This was used by Channel 4 in the UK, for their American football coverage oddly enough. Brings back very happy memories, such a fascinating band/sound.

  • I've still got the original LP from about 1984/1985 and still love it!

  • estaba con ganas de encontrar esta portada, un fantastico LP

  • This song like a some Art Of Noise title, but my favorite group from 90"s!!

    Thx!

  • to clear the confusion here, this track is called "Jewel", exists in numerous remixes just like any other Propaganda track, and the instrumental edit presented here was included on the vinyl version of the superb "A Secret Wish" album. The "A Secret Wish" cd features a vocal version, depending on the version you have. An amalagamation of "Duel" and "Jewel" called "Jewelled" is featured on the remix album "Wishful Thinking". any more questions?

  • Dear Bosley,

thanks for your info. Yes, that's what i've read too, that the short version of 'jewel' is only available on the initial pressings of the American CD.

    Thanks again!

    kind regards

    Richard

  • & why the americans had to call it "duel" is way beyond me..was released as Jewelled....typical yankie b*ll...sHit..to suit themselves.. :-)

  • @redcarladuk Actually, there are two separate tracks Jewel and Duel.

An amalagamation of "Duel" and "Jewel" called "Jewelled" is featured on the remix album "Wishful Thinking". - bosely0815

  • Your ignorance is bliss, yes? Hide your head in shame, research those thoughts before you type something stupid, eh?

  • suit themselves in the name of money, Ultimately for Claudia that is. It's all marketing. Regardless of whether or not the purchasing power of the States is or is not as discriminate compared to elsewhere, each market has its own unique niche and attention span, that's common sense. That is why everything marketed is done so differently everywhere. Be grateful you have your opinion, your own perception of it all, as that what makes you, along with each of us who we are, unique as individuals.

  • for the uninitiated..the main album this is from..is..."wishful thinking"

& im sure this was one of the all time greats in the 80s!! :-)

  • love this track, so many memories... great to see that album cover again... my cd was lost long ago... got it back on mp3 ;)

  • great stuff. Does anyone know any CD that has this shorter version of Jewel on it? All the CD versions I know have the longer 6-min plus version, which I don't like as much. Any info greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • @djlionheart1962

    hey there,

the short instrumental version came on the initial US edition of the "A Secret Wish" cd.

  • amazing...album is great!

  • What a great Band from Germany, Düsseldorf... This song is amazing and Duel was even better

  • I first heard this on Channel 4 (UK) coverage of American Football........and have loved it since

  • I first heard it on th BBC Rally Report,in the early 80's and fell in love with it too.

  • Yum!

  • Synth pop kicks ass.

  • this is Electrika !

  • research the new world order

  • i still have this album on vinyl been listening to it everyday since 1985

  • I heard this track once when I photographed a fashion show. What a power that show had! Since then one of my favorite tracks!

  • Awesome, I loved that band!

  • magical - a time machine of a tune! Takes me back (etc. etc.)

    Whatever happened to Propaganda?

  • Fantastic song!

  • I wish somebody would post Flesh And Steel by SPK.

  • Great EP

This sounds very Trevor Horn influenced. Did`nt "whos afraid of the art of noise" get released around the same time?

  • Propaganda was one of the artists on ZTT records, same as AoN Frankie Goes to Hollywood, and 808 State.

  • spot on buddy trevor and his fairlight are all over this bad boy lol

  • wxb 102 time!!! great new wave collection of all time. . . tnx for having this shit>>>>>

  • this great mechanical stomping stuff!

  • I want more mechanical stomping stuff.

  • fucking A !!! greetz depeche mode.

  • God its good to here this version again which is actually titled 'jewel'so as to avoid confusion with the 'Duel' track, which has a character all of its own. Still, both ground breaking tracks from a ground breaking band

  • BTW, it's called 'Duel' not 'Jewel'. Thought you should know, because people searching might not find it. Cheers for hosting! I LOVE this song!

  • BTW, it IS 'Jewel', track 3 from the album 'A Secret Wish', the album cover is used as the picture above for this track. 'Duel' is track 4 on the same album. Also available is 'Duel:Bitter Sweet Mix'(which is here, on youtube) & re-mixed track 'Jewelled' which I have posted on here.....ALL great songs!

    Thought YOU should know.....;-)

  • I also bought this single when it came out in the 80's, Duel was the A side, Jewel was on the B side.

    Love both.

  • But having listened to this instrumental, it must be another version again as the single (and album) had lyrics. A bit more punk.

  • jewel and duel are the two sides of thne same song this is jewel . my favorite

  • you are correct,i sold the 12" single 15 years ago for £25,00. What a dick should have kept it

  • Exactly! They are the same song, but this version is known as the "bittersweet" version of Duel!

  • btw your wrong it is called jewel.

  • This is great (I've gt the CD)and for my old tape in the car I put the end bit from 2:02 on the end of DUEL.

  • The accompanying album called "wishful thinking" is very rare, and has a version of this called "jewelled". This version was used on the BBC rally report music, and my you video tribute to colin Mcrae uses it in the driving sequences, as I happen to have the "wishful thinking" CD which I think has now been deleted.

    Try this:

    watch?v=grSOejp918U

    1 minute 40 secs in....

  • Thanks for that, I've just watched(and listened) to it and I was really impressed. It is a shame about Colin Mc, he really did let it all hang out when he drove.

  • what ya mean?.. there are loads on amazon..lol

  • Yeah there are now I see, at one point it was deleted and impossible to get.

Its a good thing its available its a great album!

  • I never heard that before, and I would have missed something "FANTASTIC" but, thank's to you, I didn't. Thank You for sharing ! Exellent work !

  • in the car, base on fuuullll! great hit

  • After seeing so many comments about 'Jewelled' (the rallying tune) & not finding it on here, have now uploaded it if anyone's interested. Great group, some fantastic tunes! Cheers!

  • On the CD album you get alonger vocal version which i find much better.

This is my #1 from Propaganda, use it for the motorway, especially the end, its so powerful !!! If you own a Lamborghini, this is your tune......................

  • Propaganda always seemed to use a lot of sound effects in their song. Not many other bands seemed to do it like them...

  • que grande!!

  • Hurray for this! Completely forgot all about it!

  • Simply superb. One of the best productions ever in the history of the planet!

  • Música muito fixe

  • brilliant!! i can remember buying the album and wore out this track something rotten!

  • me too....

  • Vraiment un titre incroyable !!

A écouté trés fort !! frissons garantis!!!

la version de ''whisful thinking'' est aussi très puissante !! peut être même plus !!

  • loved it, also was opening titles to ch4 american football show circa 1988

  • なんという幸せ!!プロパガンダ最高!!!

  • Love it,have it on cd!

  • Thank god i found this!!! I'd forgotten all about it!!! Brings back so many childhood memories... wasn't it the theme to ITV's rallying programme or something?

  • It was for BBC'S TOP GEAR Rally Report

  • Cool, thanks for that.

  • Takes me back

  • Almost. They mixed this track with another called Duel and came up with the track "Jewelled" that was the song used in Top Gear's Rally Report.

  • Ah, i see. Yeah i know of Duel, that's another cracking tune but didn't know the 2 were mixed together for the TG programme.

    Cheers for the info.

  • fucking hell this takes me back..you forget how amazing stuff sounds over time.. i was 11 when i bought this.. and i bought it primarily cos i fancied suzanne and hated frankie goes to hollywood. but what a fucking chooon
