My dipping sauce always changes. lol. Sometimes, I will pour hot oil on chopped scallions and ginger, then mix with the soy and chili oil, kinda like the sauce for drunken chicken. When you wrote Chinese mother, it reminded me of my stepmother. She's really short and she looks like Ms. Swan from MadTV. When I let her taste my cooking, she chews and waits a long time while I anxiously wait for her approval. lol.
@MrJingjong I have enjoyed that hot oil technique with steamed fish and bok choy. YUM! My sauce changes all the time too -- always a variation of this one though.

Oh man that looks good. Is the "Toasted Sesame Oil" the same thing as regular sesame oil found in Asian grocers? If so, that seems like a lot, since it packs a pretty strong flavour, but I still want to try this recipe next time I have some kind of dumplings on hand.
@sooth15 Well there is toasted and not toasted - the label will say. Toasted Sesame Oil does have a strong flavor and it kind of is a lot of sesame oil! But it's so good! Overall, this is a strong, bold sauce. It's crazy addicting <3
Fish sauce would make it even better.
