@sumphoneo the nuggets just had a nice run. with only being a game away from the conference finals, they had something to build on. however, it fell short the following year by getting swept by the spurs.
Thanks to your former Sonics my Rockets won 94-95 titles what a coincidence huh?
We lost 93 and 96 against Sonics which would have probably given us 2 more titles and against MJ and the Bulls but oh well will never happen now that the Sonics and MJ are gone.
Shawn Kemp dominated Mutombo in the first two games of that series because he dunked it in his face. The last three games the sonics got tight and played conservative, and kemp started trying to shoot it over mutumbo, which he blocked everytime. This series will haunt the sonics players and their fans forever, because the players knew if they played the way they had all year they would have easily won that series.
This is a nice flashback for me, since I've always been a nugget fan and clearly this was one of the best moments of our franchise...but quite honestly I also can't imagine the NBA without Seattle... keep the Sonics in Seattle!!!
The Sonics are third to last in the NBA in attendance this year. The last time they were even in the top 20 in that category was 2002-2003 when they landed, you guessed it, in prestigious #20.
It seems to me the city gave up on the team long before the favor was returned.
set aside the notion that those stats for attendance are correct... have you ever been to KeyArena before?
If you have you would know that it's one of the smallest arenas in the NBA if not the smallest, so no matter what compared to San Antonio or Houston or New York or any other gigantic arena, the Key never had the potential to be in the top 20.
I came from page 2 as well. I became a fan in 1996 of both the NBA and the Sonics but its still un-pleasant to see that clip again. All the way from the UK this fan is shouting the same thing: SAVE OUR SONICS!!! (and cursing at Bennett)
Well Kemp does have a Shaq-like game he mostly charges to the rim for monster dunks too bad Mutombo was waiting for him if he had the size of Shaq. Seattle would have taken it all
Denver won this game in OT. I remember that the Sonics almost lost this game in regulation, too. Kendall Gill had an amazing putback basket to tie the game in the final seconds. But that's where our luck ran out. The local news had a great into that night. "Summer's here early. People flooded to lakes and parks to soak up all this sun. Only one thing could dampen this day..."
Cue the Sonics/Nuggets footage and the sight of Mutumbo clutching the ball. Horrible day.
did you record this on your calculator?

What was also amazing was that they were down 3-0 to Utah in the next round and came back to force a game 7 in that series.

It's pretty tough to support a team that's about to fly the coop and break your heart.
