Been up there numerous times. Filled up at Columbine springs and hit all the switchbacks. Last time I was up there though was about a year or so after the wildfires went through there in 2007. Was a volunteer with San Bernardino County Sheriffs Search & Rescue.

Great video did day hike there in spring '11 couldn't find spring that used to come up right in camp back in 80's. Did 3T's & Cucamonga Pk. in August

@Norm7634 when you enter the camp site, head s/w towards the rear of the site, it's still there but barely a trickle from a pvc pipe

Looks like another great outdoor adventure you had. I think the memories you make on trips like this are what keep people like you and me getting out and enjoying nature as much as the trip itself. Good times, great friends. Enjoy the gear show, especially IntenseAngler's backpack and thread injector skill. Icehouse is awesome. Seems like the backpacking options in that area are endless - very fortunate you are Alan. Great backpacking video!

@wawhiker yes, many trails. rangers are "on the ball" only a few have been destroyed by lazy worthless people, with trash and grafiti. Also volunteers carry trash out when they see it. The few, keep it looking good for the many. thanks for the suppoprt

I'm sure we will do some more real soon. I'm finding more and more locals around here from the vids ive been doing. I even have some rangers subs! Howdy mr, / miss ranger, just incase they are reading this. Oh, and I could use the combo to the west for gate, "if you see fit" :-)

@ColinOutdoors it was fun. im already packed for an attempt at the trail going the other direction at the saddle. in two weeks i'll be giving it a try. All reading this, are welcome to come along. plenty of grasshoppers to go around. :-)

In areas like this you experience life so much more. Seeing your video reminded me of trips that I did. The wind blowing over those mighty mountains, the cold water carving it's way through the rocks softly but steady - everytime I see this, it makes me feel so calm and relaxed....

cool video looks like you guys had some fun, sorry i flaked, i wanted to go but i felt i was getting a little sick.....questions tho:

1) how cold was it at kellys camp?

2) and is there a reliable water source there?

@CRXluvr last water source in columbine about 3/4 mile below the saddle. it got down to about 30 but the wind made it rough in the sl3. believe it or not, i woke with chapped lips. "in my sleep" By morning, the wind was gone. It came and went with the night. Im going week after next to cucamonga peek, rain or shine. But taking the meta2 this time as requested by a guy in Norway.
