    love it...........

  • helluva duo right there.

  • i love that sick guitar tone!!!

    like the old days...

  • you two good make a good band =)

  • Stupid question, on a double bass, how do you know where the notes are? I only ask this because i play electric bass and i play by frets.

  • @Kyler2013 Imagine the frets : )

  • It's on the same place as the electric bass i think, i play electric 2 and tryed a slap bass once :P

  • @Kyler2013:

It's not a stupid question, but it's also not directly equal to a 34" scale Electric Bass Guitar. The scale is 40" long, so each note is farther apart. As a student first learning the scale on this instrument, you'd have tape marking where each note is, allowing you to see where they are until you've learned and can perform them from memory.

It's easier on fretless electric bass, even starting new, because many have side dots on the neck, giving you a closer visual reference.

  • Learn your positions, first position, second position, 3rd position etc. Your hands after a while will know where to be before with out you figuring it out. It is like any other instrument. Once you practice the positions then it will get easier.

  • Your left hand plays exactly where the fret would normally be. Instead of a piece of metal shortening the vibrating length of string, your hand does. It takes a lot of practice and good technique to be able to play in tune. Same goes for the fretless bass guitar.

  • The one thing that unites us all in this world GREAT F@$&*N Music :D

  • rockabilly sounds always so good, makes u smile=)

  • @marcusHabs

    Rockabilly Greets from Finland!

  • which is the name of this song?

  • great english accent, to such an american form of music. great playing, great music, great job.

  • is that the same guitar from the Cow and Chicken theme?

  • Oops SORRY, I accidentally thumbed your comment down!

    awesome video

  • AlexGronstad: Really agree with you. That's a badass tone.

  • jävla luffare

  • woo betty boop

  • MY GOD WHAT A GREAT GUITARTONE

  • I tune mine to drop A and run 2 distortions through it and play with a pick, gives a nice grind fuzz sound.. oh wrong video lol ;)

Good stuff.. wish I had an upright to try this on

  • Exelent! just love it !

  • instant favorite!

  • howd he learn how to play like that ???? both the guitar and bass

  • The method is called PRACTICE.

  • great tone

  • I can listen it for days!

    Fantastic duo!

  • gotta love rockabilly!!

  • lol

  • like, totally, duh

  • top hat man...cool as fuck

  • if i had the money and the space id totaly get an upright....maybe someday :'(

  • im with u on that, so far my highschool let me use theres to learn

  • Very Reverend Horton Heat

  • oh fuck yeah!!!

  • that song was brilliant, shame the banner was at the bottom because i really wanted to watch the guitar, i know it has P90s and is a semi etc. but what settings and amp do i need to get that great guitar sound!??

  • the guitar looks like an early electric Super 400, which is a very large archtop (18" across the lower bout). As far as the sound....tube-amp, and lotsa reverb.

  • Cool video !!! That's real music with real talent. The rap crap and hard rock of today's music can never be compared to the classic rockabilly sound. Keep it swingin', cats !!!

  • lots of music takes talent. can you be the next michael jackson? nope never.

  • i wouldn't really want to be michael jackson, but i'd love to play like them!

  • @StreetRodKid66 Yes this is great talent and great music. and yes rap fails, but don't bash hard rock...

  • @StreetRodKid66 i like hard rock but slap bass on a big double is just super cool full stop

  • Man Daddy O its so boss that sound that hip shaken 100% pure y'all. Long live ROCKABILLY!!!

  • lol "an exooomple"

  • thats great!!! awesome on both instruments!!! wat town would u say is huge in rockabilly music? would nashville or memphis make sense or are there others?

  • LOVE this video

  • Freakin' Awesome!

    LONG LIVE ROCKABILLY!

  • Have just two words on my mind....HELL YEAH! Keep on rocking!

  • Mighty cool! Still boppin'

  • can i play this on electric bass?

  • no..i think is impossible..with a elettric bass you can't have the sound of slapping that you have with a doubble bass..

  • I have an Italia Maranello Z, its got Piezo pickups, so you can get a really nice high end click, doesn't have the same depth, but its damn close

  • This is SO good!

  • I just died to this! Love the sound!

  • I could listen to this stuff for hours.

  • @senator9870 hours????? years sounds better, rockin reguards

  • so ive always wondered, why doesnt slapping on an upright bass cause damage to the neck?

ive always wanted to try it out but im afraid im going to mess up the neck

  • It depends on the strings, if you're using something like a roundwound steel, it will dig grooves faster. If you're using gut or nylon it will take much longer. You can just plane the fingerboard when grooves start forming.

  • great stuff! didnt teach me anything tho lol

  • Great sound and feel. Finally a rockabilly slap bassist that knows how to play bottom. 98% of the cats I see slapping have no bottom in their sound, everything is the clacky high end/percussion hits. Very, very well done.

  • Fantastic musicians- let's add 10 stars!!!Where do we find others video's of them?

  • Very cool. This makes me want to go out and grab myself a double bass.

  • Great sound. I'd pay to hear you live.

  • wow man that's amazing! :D

  • Excellent excellent video. Very smooth precise technique both of you. Lovely guitar sound.

Could everyone stop comparing this to Lee Rocker? Lee is more punky and aggresive when playing slap to my ear, and this is "smoother". Same goes for the guitarist comparing to Setzer. I wouldn't say any of them are "better" - they are all producing enjoyable rockabilly in one shape or another.

It's just a matter of taste really.

    Anyway - brilliant video.

  • Excellent playing!!! Are you (Paul) playing on a G6120? What setup are you using, if you don't mind me asking, to get that sound?

  • that's a Gibson!

  • i think he use the scotty moore gibson guitar...with a delay or reverb.

  • i think its a gibson es-350 with some delay and overdrive.

  • yes it is probably...

    anyway his sound is GREAT!

  • Paul Pigat (aka Cousin Harley) is so good I went and bought all his videos and CDs, too. What you see here is just the tip of the iceberg! I believe Paul said in one of the vids that the guitar he's using there is a 1940s era Gibson L-5, modified pickups, and the Bigsby vibrato. Buy the vids. Worth every penny.

  • amazing

  • Yeah!! :D

  • Wahnsinn!

  • Wahnsinn = Insanity? Have I got that right?

  • Right. You got the word's primary meaning. But in Germany it's often used as a positive remark.

I didn't find a proper translation, but let's take 'awesome' for example. It can be amazing or wonderful but also frightful or horrible. Same situation. ^^

You see, nothing to worry about. I learn double bass myself and admire those who already can play especially Rockabilly.

  • great man! original sound from 50!

  • I know! It's amazing, really cool sound :D

  • them fools

  • who needs a drummer when your bass sounds like THIS?? i wish my upright could sound like this!!!!!

  • I'm wondering does it hurt your fingers? looks like it does

  • it does at first with Steel Strings but Later on you may get blisters but soon your fingers will be rough and you can slap all you want

  • ha thats great its been a long time (about 4 years) since I've seen Pete. Last time I saw him we were having a few pints at Blues on Whyte

  • Gives me more of a reason to switch from electric bass to upright bass.

  • There are some bands that are out there that actually play this stuff. The problem is that it's not mainstream so very little, if any at all, ever gets played on the radio, and that is a shame. This is some of the wildest sounds I have ever heard in some time. I actually got to play once with Ronnie Dawson and I met quite a few rockabilly bands in and around the West Coast. Also, there are many bands overseas doing this kind of stuff. This will NEVER die.

  • thats why this is underground music

  • oh my fucking god. that was great.

  • check out mad sin..........WOW!

  • Great sound loved it, just starting on the double bass myself, so this inspires me to try harder.

    Nice one guys.

  • hotness!

  • Oh my god, this is like a time machine on youtube!!

    AWESOME! :)

    Great playing guys.

  • awesome musicans

  • I like music!

  • wow what an awesome pair of musicans!

  • Rockabilly rules!

  • Amazing playing. They are both incredible.

  • Anybody know the Varmits, late 80's Arizona? Great rockabilly trio - but not as great as this duo. They had a standing gig at a Chinese restaurant in Phoenix.

  • WOW.

I was lost from Rockabilly for some years, I only played Swedish and Finnish Rocknroll and Fifties in my Lowrider Impala, but now I'm Back!

(just surfed on in, I was looking for something else. Thanks)
