  • Still love watching this, except for when Bailey holds his hand up. Too arrogant, not very Canadian and lost a world record. Arrrrgh

  • Does anyone know where I can find the 1996 4x400 Olympic race? I can't find it anywhere. Thanks.

  • Where is usa in 100m between Lewis.

  • That asshole had to put his hand up... and had to show boat .. instead of running through the line.. we could have had a world record..

  • Canada looked like they slept together in their running order. Perfect hand offs!

  • 15 ans déjà!!

  • i met glenroy gilbert at track nationals :)

  • If Ben Johnson hadn't pissed in a bottle, we had a fantastic four in Seoul as well. Anyway, they are all on dope.

  • i think that as the last time the US lost a 4x100 relay in world competition. they visibly felt like sh#t then. guess they could sense the ass kicking from the Jamaicans in beijing 2008, reason they dropped the baton -on purpose- as a way to save face. well, guess usain and company will get their chance in deagu come august. granted the j'cans don't get disqualified and the \us decides to take it up the ass like real b*#ches..lol

  • @chichibud31 They've lost other competitons since then. Canada won again at the '97 worlds, Great Britain won at the '04 Olympics (bad handoff between Justin Gatlin and Cobi Miller cost them), they didn't even make the Finals at the '05 worlds, won the '07 worlds, then Jamaica has taken over. By the way, that Canadian team in the mid 90's was great and they ran together all the time. Esmie, Gilbert, Surin, and Bailey. '95 and '97 world champs and '96 olympic champs.

  • i met the first runner for team canada

  • awesome race. exciting

  • bailey doesn't hold up...and the surin bailey exchange goes smoother...and that WR is absolutely smashed

  • History was made the United States got

beat thanks to poor coaching who picked an unworthy 4x100 relay team. Not trying to take away from th Canadian's Men's Sprint Squad they were Awsome Bailey was my fav 100m man...

  • this is probably the best sprinting video on youtube. America get hammered and the sheer joy of the commentators and the Canadian sprinters alike add to the greatness, then on top of that its a high quality video at a great angle.

And also the run is superb! Brilliant handoffs and great efforts all round by the Canadians.

  • As a Canadian, this is my proudest sports moment ever. We've done jacksquat in these sprinting events since but it was sweeeeeet at the time.

  • when i think about it..bailey was a true 200m runner, even though he did not run that event..until he backed off at about 80 meters dude was still accelerating..see, usain is not the first to shut it down at 80 meters and show for the camera. carl did it, ben did it as well..

  • People, pleas Google Carlton Chambers! He was apart of this team! Do your research before commenting!

  • CARLTON CHAMBERS was apart of this team! Google him for more information. He didnt run in the finals because he was injured. Please do your research!

  • like I said, google him and read the articles! The proof is there! Do your research before commenting!

  • What a shame for the americans...really , getting beat up in their on turf and then the Michael Johnson ass-whoopin he got in toronto..

Donovan Bailey showed americans how its done !!!!!!!!!!

  • lol so tru

  • Go Canada!!! That's a race I will never forget, I was so happy. Have some respect for Canadian dude! They were THE ONES!

  • tht team exchange the baton perfectly, the last leg didnt even switch the baton to his right

  • Superb !

  • these american idiots must be like Michael Johnson..who when he ran the 150 meters with Bailey chocked out in the middle of the race when he saw he couldn win...guess those golden shoes are just BS...

americans are like that..they think the own the world...looking at their national debt now they own NO one...they are mostly owned by Chinese compagnies....

  • It looked as though Bailey wasn't even at top speed when he received the baton - he even looked back to make sure the baton was in hand.

And then he kicked everyone's asses...

  • Glenroy Gilbert the second runner of Canada is one of my coach at ottawalions .... I'm so proud of him !

  • robert is my coach

  • cleanest handoffs ever

  • @LJfromNJ91 Brasil's 2000' was better, sorry

  • @LJfromNJ91 Right-on! So much that Surin and Bailey didn't have to care about it anymore. Il was already in the bag. The first hand-over of the baton in between Esmie and Gilbert was absolutely perfect and swift. The Gilbert to Surin was a little more laborious, but okay. The last one was just a mere formality.

  • Répondre à cette vidéo... When Bruny came out of the curve in front of everybody, I was yelling in my living room. O)) A great 4. And not all from Jamaïca. Haïti and Trinidad too.

  • i am going to make model my 4x1 team after these guys it is just amaizing the way they blitzed the field my god i will make my team watch this over and over to get it then we will do our thing i am an awsome turn runner like surin

  • I just noticed that all of the Canadians were more of the more built sprinters-ESPECIALLY SURIN!!!

  • seriusly there should be a 4x 800 meter relay

  • Yaah, i agree those were the fucking best handoffs i have ever seen... The power and explosion from each runner to the next was awesome!

  • CARLTON CHAMBERS was apart of this team!!!!

  • god what was the time cause looks like fucking 36 seconds

  • fucking americans got their asses kicked in this race and the 100m final and they still claimed that their michael johnson, 200m gold medallist, was the world's fastest man...is there any wonder why everyone hates americans???

  • ya but jamaica kicked usa's ass so stfu lol

  • so how did Canada do in Beijing? 18 medals HAHA

    USA!! USA!! USA!!!

  • USA was kissing usain bolt's ass.

    got anything to top that?

  • Canada was kissing the USAs ass

considering we had 1 athlete (Michael Phelps) who had more gold medals than your whole country

  • so? last i checked tyson gay didnt even make the 100m final.

and who gives a shit about swimming... u can do so many events in that in track its impossible to do more than 2 running events.

  • Yea Tyson Gay didnt make the final but 2 other Americans did. Which is 2 more than Canada. How about that clean sweep in the 400 hurdles and 400m and 1st in the 4x4

  • 100m is the most important event of track and field, 200m is veryy important and 4x100m is more important than 4x4.

jamaica kicked all your asses :)

and how about the womens? sweeped the 100.

  • ohhhh, cheap shot

  • @farzamk do you know any country that was not kissing his ass..

  • Hmmm... and the US has 10 times the population of Canada. 18 X 10 = 180. And the US got 110 medals. 110 / 10 = 11. Hmmm...

Hmmm... and how did those 2006 Winter Olympics work out? USA, population 300 million: 25 medals. Canada, population 30 million: 24 medals. Hmmm...

See you in Vancouver, my friend.

  • lol the winter olympics are as important as something not very important.

  • Yep, the Winter Olympics are unimportant like the World Cup of Soccer, or the world Hockey Championships, or anything else Americans don't dominate... unless they happen to win, like the 1980 US Olympic Hockey team... then it's so important it's a "Miracle" you make movies about. I played a few sports in high school and I knew people like you. They win a wrestling match and you'd think they'd just been crowned king of the world... lose a match and it's all "Who cares? Wrestling sucks."

  • dont let these american idiots get u mad...

they think the world revolves around them

in 2010 we will rule the olympics...wait and see the spanking the us and europens team get especially in hockey....

on 1996 they were just pissed cuse they had NEVER lost the mens relay on american soil...took 4 canadian guys to end that streak....

the usa are heading down their medal count keeps going down and down every year...

and we win more and more medals every cycle...in vanc we will "own the podium"

  • i believe the USA went from 102 medals in '04 to 110 in Beijing, jesus you canadians are retards. You guys went from 12 to 18 congragats!!!! Canada is good at 3 things hockey(maybe), Making syrup, and getting pushed around by other countries.

BTW: dont bother saying "all americans are stupid" which is what all of you non americans out there use as a last resort when you run out of comebacks.

  • so what you gained 8 more medals...and you got 10 times our population

stop with the bs...americans you suck and thats the bottom line

with ur deficit your country is mostly owned by foreign compagnies anyway...your whole economy is going down the tubes and so is your country

  • well we gained 8 medals and u gained 6, wait i forgot which is higher?? Americans invented automobiles, Airplanes, The internet, the radio, every good movie and Television show is made here and has american actors in it, we made video cameras, video games. We landed on the moon first and we have never lost a war. Face it americans rule the world,

  • it doesnt matter if our economy tanks or if Obama brings us back we are and will always be the top dogs. Name one thing Canada contributed to the world except for war casualties. Hell, we can hold our own in soccer and hockey now, face it we have it all. So why dont you just immigrate here like everyone else in the world, i had to break my comment in half it was to long. But face it you couldnt even watch this video if it wasnt for americans considering an american made youtube.

  • for your information

you are no longer "top dogs"

the american influence has seriously gone down...your economy is so energy dependant you are basically owned by middle eastern countries and china, the US dollar cant compete against the euro...the canadian dollar is almost at par and has even surpassed the us dollars last year in value...

your economy is completely paralysed by a multi trillion dollar deficit...the good old america is doomed

  • lol your an ignorant fuck, canada invented basketball (one of america's past times), the telephone and the light bulb to name three

  • oh well, we invented just a little thing called insulin, I think it saved a couple of people, not sure though.

  • Lol.

  • well then dont use maple syrup as a comeback for canadians when u got nothing else to say cause thats what all non canadians say, btw im not canadian i just think yr a prick

  • Here's a comeback...well you would know what's tha't like since the Americans got pushed around real good on the track in the last Olympics. They were eating everyone's dust. Lol

  • "At least" nothing. They LOST. If you don't win, guess what??...you LOSE-RS. Lol.

  • go fuck yourself canada finish 5th at 4x 100m in 2009 world championship and usa ....

  • your a joke

  • check wikipedia my friend the USA had the most track and field medals in bejiing learn your facts

  • ok!

    whos upset trackfan!

  • perhaps if Canada spent millions and millions of dollars on Olympic programs we'd have more medals -and yes - international competition is important - but we prefer to focus on other things that are much more important in a society - things like - ummm - what's it called -...ummm- oh there it is - healthcare.

  • get nuked

  • @MrChiffy Don't be smug - we've shortchanged every sport outside hockey for over decades and the current is the result. And I might add my mom waited over a year for knee surgery. I'm not a paid Republican either, I'm a Canadian who sees what's happening.

  • hello we got a tenth of your population...

compare apples to apples....if we had 300 million population we whould get way more medals...

    so shhhh...

anyway usa are heading down,,,,so falls the american empire...with a deficit like yours...the usa is heading for bankrupcy...

  • considering china has a 1/6th of the worlds population they should get 1/6th of the medals right . your country won 3 gold medals. you have 1/10th of our population so if you take 1/10th of our 36 gold medals its 3.6 compared to your 3. So if canada was the same size then we would still win. And who cares if "The American Empire" falls at least we had one.

  • whats the american empire lol dont flatter yourself trackfan

  • Go Canada! ! . !___!

  • Pause 12 seconds in...

LOOK AT THE EFFICEINCY! ! ! Glenroys hand is STRIGHT OUT!

Esmie PUT IT RIGHT IN! IT WAS A SOLID PUSH RIGHT IN THE HAND!!!

    Fuck man....

  • wow..look at them accelerate!

  • that last guy was like a fukin rocket!!

  • that was a great relay team. You had a great starter off the blocks in esmie, then gilbert who could hold the fort, then surin and bailey who acted like 2 anchors.

I appreciate them much more now considering the status of the canadian sprint team today

  • jgrewal66 . . .

Ill tewll you somthin most people dont know...

this crew had the BEST hand offs in 4X100 meter history.. look at eh hand off.... people totally miss the beauty of this specifixc run....

This 4X100 was beautifull because of the hand off....... very little was spared... all the track was utlized for these hand offs. especially Blast Off to Glenroy

    WATCH THE HAND OFFS!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • oh ,whoops never mind that was ben johnson....

  • those olympics with johnson were a joke... it was a game of which country could hide their cheating the best.

Look how many years it took to discover that the americans were beating the system back then with athletes like Carl Lewis. Surely, they couldn't be the only country to beat the system.

You still have to wonder today. For every step that the doping agency takes, the athletes cold be taking 2 steps... I hope not

  • you dont know what your talkin about...

  • Thanks for posting that. Great run.

  • Jamaica has the new world record (37.10) set at BEIJING `08

  • Btw that was the only time since that race is in the Olympics that the USA lost it. They won every other time or they got disqualified...

In 1996-1997 Canada was called "The fastest country in the world" since we won 100m, 4x100m and the F1 championship. (Villeneuve)

  • No country was going to beat CANADA

  • One of my fondest Olympic memories. The Americans were so sure of a win. Bob Costas on NBC talking about how Carl Lewis should be part of a relay to break a medal-count record. They never acknowledged the Canadians as a threat. After the race, Costas was speechless. Priceless!

  • as a american..i see so much hate towards us, which is understood. With power comes fear and fear breeds anger..of course fear brings hate..as long as we are the most powerful nation in the WORLD we will be hated...by the way, where does ur country rank. The next super power which will be China, will suffer the same treatment.

  • you clearly lack formal education

  • Your arrogance and conceit is what makes other nations hate Americans. And what power do you think you have right now exactly anyway. Your governement is ridiculed all over the world, you are made fun of nation wide, not feared, at least not anymore. Your economy is in trouble, educate yourself. I am a proud Canadian and I honestly dont hate anyone, especially not Americans, but I certainly dont fear your country either, sorry to burst your ignorant bubble.

  • it is not arrogance..it is fact..we are made fun of..but isnt every country made fun of, be real. even in a troubled economy we are still a strong nation..but to be perfectly honest hating other countries is ignorant..its like saying my car is better than your car..stupid and a waste of time..if i was to say "i hate canada". what makes me hate them..their government or a canadian keyed my car..maybe jealousy..who knows but it is stupid.

  • Let's get this straight. You wasted your mouth, you are an ameraican idiot and my car's better than yours

  • a horse is not a car..but nice effort

  • A horse is green and we are going back to it little by little. You have obviously never ridden a horse.

  • nanababy If our goverment is ridiculed that would me that yours is also. Sorry to break the news to you but Cananda is a capitalist country.

  • As a Brit I really enjoyed seeing Canada beat the US in Atlanta. Almost as much as seeing GBR beat them in 2004! Which proves you don't necessarily need great runners to win the relay. Who would've predicted that Gardener, Campbell, Devonish and Lewis-Francis would beat 'greats' like Crawford, (the now disgraced) Gatlin, Miller and Greene?

  • What are you saying? Bruni Surin was the 1995 100 meters world champion and Donovan Bailey the winner at olympics. I think they had great runners.

  • Bailey and Surin were great runners. (it was Bailey who was the '95 champion by the way, not Surin - the best Surin did was silver in '99) But Esmie and Gilbert weren't great individual runners. (good, but not great) They always raised their game for the relay though, just like Gardener, Devonish and Lewis-Francis for GB.

  • Plus I was talking more about GB vs. USA in 2004 than Canada vs. USA in '96. If you look at the lineups: First leg: Gardener (PB 9.99) vs. Crawford (9.88). 2nd leg: Campbell (10.04) vs. Gatlin (9.85 at the time) 3rd leg: Devonish (10.13 at the time) vs. Miller (9.98) and anchor: Lewis-Francis (10.04) vs. Greene (9.79).

It's only the US (and Jamaica this year) that's able to field four sub-10s runners. That doesn't guarantee victory though, if you're up against an inspired team with good changes

  • My bad but Surin won all the same the silver medal in 1995. You right about 2004, it was quite a suprise.

  • Surin was also the 60 meters world champion in 1993 and 1995! Plus Surin, Gilbert and Esmie won Bronze in the 1993 world championship, running the same positions. The only difference was Bailey ran anchor from 1995, in 1993 Atlee Mahorn, 200 meter Canadian Record Holder ran the anchor spot!

  • @beardfacee you do need great runners to win, just not famous ones.

  • @beardfacee listen here cunt!! the only reason USA lost to you guys is, not because uk had fast runners, its because we didn't do good job on the hand off....that is the only way America will loose: through silly mistakes! when it comes to pure domination and pure athleticism, no doubt USA eats them all

  • @28adrianpeterson listen to yourself, your so fucking dramatic and all get all defensive when someone bags america, just stop thinking ur better than everyone cus you use big words, no one gives a fuck bro just get a fukn life . your a bitch , id love to fuck you up you fukn up yourself cunt .

  • @18yearsandover Someone is being so dramatic here. XD

  • @teamgoobernutz theres a difference between being dramatic and pissed of at somebody

  • Where is the USA right now? Perhaps the most disliked country globally, in the midst of a recession, with the highest obesity rate in the world. I hope things get better for your country.

Canadians on average have a longer life expectancy, have more sex, make more money, are happier than their american counterpart. These are facts. Google "How Canada stole the American Dream". Seriously.

  • "have more sex"???? how on earth is that measured...come on now SERIOUSLY??!!

  • Is there a canadian really talking smack on here...seriously..mount up.

  • I am. It's the fucking internet, get over yourself.

  • btw hahah

i have Bailey and Gilbert's and Surin's autographs and iv met Esmie at a track meet when i was 9 in vancouver haha

  • hahaha omg who comments about powell on this but i mean he is beutiful.

But you cant even compare the two see the training now adays is so much different and the athletes just keep getting faster.

Donovan bailey didnt even do track his whole life either he decided to again a few years after highschool cause he saw people running at nationals and winning and he remebmerd beating them back when he would do school track haha

  • why am I seeing postings about Powell? He was about 10 years old when this relay made history!!!

Keep up with the postings please!!!

  • the rise and fall of canadian track....since then..it has just never been the same

  • amazing all round speed by the whole team

  • this was canada's year

  • lol, I was watching this race on a American channel i think it was NBC, right when Canada won the 4x100m race The American channel change the sport to something else not allowing us Canadians to see the celebration.... What sore LOSERSSSSSS...

  • That has nothing to do with it. The Olympic TV scheduling is set up to change to particular events after certain ones are completed, to ensure the other events get equal coverage or the next event (if a big one) isn't missed.

The USA didn't even field a "great" team in the 4x100 that year anyway.

  • That may have nothing to do with. But ever since '96, American athletics have disgraced its program with confirmed use of illegal drugs. I guess that is the American Free-market Capitalist: lie, cheat, and steal to get ahead.

  • Glenroy Gilbert unofficially ran the fastest second leg of a 4 by 100m race ever.

    Great moment in Canadian history

  • Robert Esmie 10.47

    Glenroy Gilbert 9.02

    Bruny Surin 9.25

    Donovan Bailey 8.95

Not the fastest ever 2nd leg for Gilbert, but still absolutely motoring

  • Beatin' the Yanks in dere own house. Priceless!!!

  • man. donavan baily is the best runner in the world.. he is a killa

  • man. donavan baily is the best runner in the world.. he is a killa

  • no asafa powell is

bailey was really good, powell is way better.

    bailey's pb: 9.84

    powells: 9.74 world record

  • no asafa powell is

bailey was really good, powell is way better.

    bailey's pb: 9.84

    powells: 9.74 world record

  • He's balls to the wall fast for sure. But his starting ability is pretty poor.

If Donovan had the ability to get out of the blocks with the best of them, I have no doubt in my mind he could've set an incredible WR in the 100m.

  • Yes you're quite right. On the last 40 meters he was like a horse, probably the fastest ever but his starts were really weak that's for sure

  • What I love most about this is Bruny Surin in 3rd raising his hands in victory just after he handed the baton to Donavan Baily. He knew nothing could possibly go wrong then.

  • do u have a longer version?

  • tht boi on the lastleg is a gun
