ver nice indeed. Notes for the song (vocals) and notes for prelude/interludes and bar-by-bar chords at KeyLessOnline. com/song/tamil/western/KodaiKaalaKaatre_PanneerPushpangal.html and KeyLessOnline. com/song/tamil/karn/KodaiKaalaKaatre_PanneerPushpangal_Details.html
Great playing, Vicky... loved the way you emphasized the bass track. It felt all the more special because the bass for this song was originally played by my dad! :) You are right in mentioning that the bass track was entirely conceived by Viji Manuel, Raaja sir's chief keyboardist. I have never heard of Vasanth sir, but Raaja sir's main bass player was his own nephew, Sasi. My dad, Sathyanarayana, used to substitute for Sasi once in a while. 'Kodai kala kaatre' happened to be one of those days!
Thanks a lot. That was a great information you provided. Its certainly an honor to know about your Dad, Mr. Satyanarayana. The bass track of this song is played with amazing glides through out the song. And to provide such controlled descending glides require superior playing skills. Thrilled to know about the background of the person who actually played those. Please convey my highest respect and regards to your dad.
Also you are right in that Sasi sir is the main Bass guitarist of Raaja. But Sasi came in to prominence only from Mid 80s I understand. Vasanth Sir used be the bass guitarist for 2 - 3 years in the early 80s from what I know. I think he is no more. I am really curious if you could provide us more trivias/ insights into the bastion of Raaja's orchestration through your dad. Can you please introduce me to him?
@violinvicky Thanks a lot, Vicky. I will definitely pass on your message to my dad. Btw, I also got a chance to check out your other videos... was particularly impressed by your analysis on 'Pattu enge'. Hats off to your passion for music... very inspirational...
@ChiruBlueRecords - Wonderful Chiru. I've definitely heard about Satyanarayana sir from a close associate of Ilaiyaraaja. Did your dad play for any other music director in those days?
@krishnbimanagar Thank you! My dad was mainly part of Telugu music director Chakravarthi's group. But since Chennai was the hub for all South Indian film music back in the day, he did get the chance to play for most of the musical stalwarts of 70's 80's. He keeps mentioning how easy it has become these days. Back then, all musicians and singers used to perform together as the song was recorded in one go - if anyone committed a mistake, they had to start again from scratch! :)

Wonderful... soothing to hear. Thanks for presenting this song in a new light. It pushes one to experience the song again and watch the bass track.

@HailBG
Thanks HailBG. Giving focus to the original bass track was also my intention when I recorded this and I am really glad that you liked it.
