This fathers attitude towards Jo's technique's is rude and ignorant and i'm very suprised Jo didn't give him a FIRM word. Just like his "FIRM taps" which to me sounded like a full on hit which in my opinion is unacceptable. I believe if you discipline your children by causing physical pain they will learn that this behaviour is okay and one day, turn around and hit you back. This man needs a good talking to and i'm disapointed that Joe wasn't the one to do it.

Firm taps are perfectly fine. But should be used as a last resort after ur kids show total disregard for the rules u have explained to them. They worked for me and my siblings (spankings that is)! but the dad should have a small say in what goes on day-to-day in the house, unless he puts in more time with the fam.

Arthur is so dumb. Jo is right. The "firm tap" doesn't work with kids because when you're a kid and you're hit, you're not thinking about WHY you got hit, just the fact that you got hit and it hurts. Jo came to their house for a reason and he needs to understand that and be more helpful. He doesn't seem very involved in his family's life.

I am not at all racist but I do see a difference in the way black people raise their children compared to white people. They seem to have more patience than white people, and I notice black children seem to whine and cry less than white children, and are not as spoiled. And yes I am white and I do believe we let our children get away with way too much.

One of them was wearing heelies (sp?) and was trying to slide through the aisles. His mom addressed that in a parental tone by saying, "what did I say about using that in the store!?" I thought, "you go, Mama!" :)

@crpsaiyan I agree. I work in retail so I see parents dealing with their children all the time, and I see so many white women just completely ignore their kids when they're misbehaving, running around the store, screaming, etc. Not the same case with most other races.

Kathy is a great mother it seems to me. She's allowing herself to learn new tactics and put them into play. I believe their father needs to be as diligent not only for his wife's sake but also for the sake of his children. I believe he's a man who doesn't know how to handle parenting, which isn't uncommon in our culture where mothers have always been given the sole role. I think with guidence he will do much better and once he understands how important a role he plays in his family..even better!

The father is part of the reason the children do not follow directions and instructions. It is easier to hit a child, then to devote the time to 'deprogram' the child from doing poor behavior.
