  • I would like to see a video explaining on how the visuals were achieved.

  • Nice interpretation of this song in the video. Simple, powerful and moving. I think you've done a great job

  • This song is almost elementary in its force. After a day of terror in Oslo I simply had to listen to this song yet again. Deeply meditative and calming. I wonder what the future has in store for us all.

  • this isn't on the regular double disk, right? I need it, how can i get it...like mp3...

  • @piepszny It was part of the vinyl version of the album. But it was also released on an ambient CD compilation. Forgot what it's called, but you can hunt it down.

Personally, I arranged the tracks and burned 3 CD's to match the vinyl tracklisting.

  • Good to see some appreciation for this mantra. Excellent video, thanks balsamia. Not so sure about the gartuitous water sounds, but true to intent of the sound imho.

  • and suddenly life becomes beautiful

  • This is very good!

  • This song always sharpen my brain ;]

  • F***ing amazing footage. Amazing song. F***ing Wow

  • Listening to this through a pair of headphones is incredible. Speechless.

  • Thank you so much for this.....it's truley an honor

  • very nice story. I like the way your video fits the experimental atmosphere

  • i heard this in a fat-pie video, can't remember if it was salad fingers or sock, but it still kinda creeps me out

  • Listening to this song is a truly spiritual experience. Ive listened to this song over 1000 times in full and It will never get old. Has anyone ever noticed the clock ticking very subtle in the background? Is it the clock that slows down or is it the entire world around you. Genius.

  • Watching this vid and listening to this song, to me it basically represents the timeless, eternal beauty and flow of nature. It will always be beautiful and it will always be moving and changing but its still the same energy expressing itself in different forms. Why didn't this get added on my saw vol II cd.. its amazing!

  • You really did a magnificent job on this video!

  • This song goes pretty much with any emotion you have!

  • that's because the song is absent of emotion.

  • @qiqimaster what u mean ?

  • @laamorin I don't think Richard D. James was trying to express any emotion in this song, and since this song has no emotion, artman40 is able to associate this song with any emotion that he has. When it comes to unknowns, people tend to fill in the blanks however best suits them.

  • At one with ourselves and nature.

  • My love is all I have to offer.

  • its a amazing. man born of nature makes machine. machine makes music that reminds man of the beauty of nature.

  • @EdwardMarshall1982 The beauty of nature as it once WAS, that is. Because where once was nature, we now build more machines..

  • Ambient works vol 2 I believe?

  • @narcoze Only on the LP-version, though.

  • This song paralyses me.

  • ...

  • I usually make progressive metal and listen to death metal from time to time, but masterpieces like this just transcends genre and explanation. I find that pioneer artists surpasses the mere categorization and have a lot in common with each other, sometimes more than with other bands of the same genre. In any case, music does and means something to me that I cannot find in anything else.

  • Brilliantly put good sir. Have an upvote.

  • No Past

    No Present.

Just you and this song creating an unkowen emotion and taking you somewhere youv never been. thats what this music dose to me. thank you richard u mad bastard haha

  • I love you because you made this.

  • I have this on repeat sometimes when I'm driving. :) My favourite "song"...and I'm a guitar player!

  • This is absolutely wicked.

  • your mom

  • O RLY?

  • No, it's extremely high calibre ambient music, where sound is more important than notes, k?

  • It's over your head, is what it is. :)

  • it's "tripplin' balls", sir.

    Genre: hardcore ambient, I'd say...

  • This and blue calyx are everything I want ambient music to be.

  • This song helps life

  • Why couldn't they get rid of the 2 poorest tracks on SAW2 and add this beauty..

  • what songs should be removed then?

  • Either the penultimate track which is 11 and a half minutes which isn't too bad but Stone In Focus is far superior. Or for the 2 poorest how about the drab [Tassels] and then either [Spots] or [Shiny Metal Rods]

  • I'd say [Tassels] and [Shiny Metal Rods].

  • there's comfort in standing in a room alone;;next to a fireplace . did I mention alone?

but you really aren't. because someone loves you & you feel like a million by just thinking of that.

    then you feel love

  • This song is true unconditional love.

  • Oh wow.

    That really hit hard.

  • tears from the compound eye

  • this song makes me want to an hero

  • I realized that my SAW2 cd is missing this amazing track.

Does anyone know any online music store which sells the #19 in digiformat (preferably lossless of course)?

  • unfortunately stone in focus was only on the limited edition vinyl release in the uk. you'll have to find a torrent...

  • it was on some ambient compilation cd too, it sais what its called on the SAW2 wikipedia page i think

  • beautiful, but i wish you would've timed the cuts to the waves of the main synth line. still a neat project though.

  • i remember hearing this song on the modification for Half Life (1). It was such a great mod. This music added to it gave it such a unique feel to it. if any of you here are gamers, and wanna give that mod a try, it's called "Afraid of Monsters: Director's Cut". It's a survival horror mixed with first person shooter. some of the stuff i've seen in that game is so freaky, it will never leave my mind. that's what made it so great. This song too :p

  • Hey you should record that and put upload it to youtube, i'm really curious to see how that looks! :P

  • This was in AoM? Shit I should of played it more :/

I remember the zombies were ridiculously hard to kill though...

  • awesome video awesome song

  • Is this song on an album he has released?

  • Comment removed

  • it was a vinyl only track. though it appears somewhere as "#19"

  • i feel like i'm falling off a skyscraper, but i never hit the ground...

  • i swear im seriously addicted t this song, i listen to it first thin in the mornin...all thru the day...and if i dont i feel all worked up..its so hypnotising and its so calmin that its drivin me nuts, anyone get like this after herain this?

  • i do, i heard this song a few years ago and it is amazing, really suggest getting a copy of selected ambient works II if you can, its mostly like this. Also try Brian Eno, father of ambient

  • plateaux of mirror

  • This Song Has Always Messed With MY Mind

Music That Plants An Unknowen Feeling in Me is Perfect!

    .AFX.

  • fuck this song, lol...to powerful for me to listen to these days...reminds of my teenage years when i used to listen to it on repeat for hours... it is the most simplistic masterpiece... first time i heard was from the soundtrack for "spoilsbury toast boy"...you could watch it on youtube... i love/hate this song soooo much :(

  • Next: a video a grass growing! But wait there's more! Halfway, it cuts to PAINT DRYING!!!! It will express the true meaning of our subconscious' attempt at escaping the harsh reality of the world's Freudian expression inside acrophobic opiates oedipus depression relaxation morphemes social savant Carl Jung Philip Zimbardo Stanley Milgram complex.

Seriously though, this song is great, and yes I did just go to a psychology glossary for the last bunch of words.

  • Hahahahaha!

  • I'd thumb you up but some slut thought you were serial

  • do not forget lichen too.

  • Stone in focus and Rhubarb are his best ambient songs

  • Lichen and Blue Calx are awesome too.

  • and parallel stripes... well the entire album is awesome!

  • Beautiful video and song +5 all the way. please make more, you are a genius :P

  • what is it about this song that makes ppl want to leave cheesy comments about the meaning of life etc?

  • well since both of you don't even have videos on your channels, you really shouldn't talk....

  • mate i've got nothing against this video,

just commenting on ppls response to it.

  • yep, just making a statement, hardly see how me having videos posted is in correct context to begin with... funny though....people need to get out more often if stuff like this is so humbling....

  • there are those of us who are able to connect our emotions & spirit with this music and/or video. Your inability appreciate the beautiful simplicity & emotion of this video shouldn't entitle you to dub our comments as "cheesy". If you don't like the video, why would you stay on it long enough to criticize those who DO like it? you should be smart enough to realize that your comment wouldn't please some of us...unless of course your aim WAS to annoy us. but then that would mean you are a jerk...

  • Honestly, guys watch this when you are very high, with a good friend. It's the single greatest thing in the world.

  • beautiful song, beautiful idea, beautifully done.

  • this song is just..so..depressing to me...i mean...its beautiful...But it just reminds me of Something so horribly bad...yet the good things all at the same time...

  • i SO agree with you. i wonder what it is...

  • I know, it's like this feeling that the world is about to end, but it's also like, it just doesn't matter anymore. Because everything is perfect and it's all right.

  • I just find it really calming!

  • Does anybody know what happened to the Hindu music with the elephant god that used to be in the related videos?

  • TUnak Tunak Tan?

  • I think I see it, it's called Daily Meditation

  • In the thick of it i suppose we can endure these tryer's of no good sanitys. They break us down and remove our eternal worth to nothin more than slaves. Be it little simplicities such as musical pieces or wonderful dreams we each have moments of glory, as i feel now when i listen to this.

Good luck to u all in these times of madness

  • This could be used against all those who question what music can do to your mind, your thoughts, your feelings and even your soul.

If I should ever question the depth and power of music and what it means to me, I need only to listen to this. Then I know I am alive.

  • this is the most beautiful song ever conceived

  • Mysterious and scary sound!

  • What??!!Wrong!!!A gentle cosmic sound pure and light.Check out Alberto Balsam...

  • 10 minutes of the same 3 chords looped, and still staying interesting, fuckin genius

  • So profound in its simplicity. Invokes emotions not normally experienced in day-to-day life. Makes you contemplate your inner reality. It is a warm blanket for the mind. Such is the beauty of Stone in Focus.

  • Balance is perfecto ! great ,.. thxs .. Choc x

  • The sheer beauty of this leaves me with feelings of sadness and gratitude. For with every second life is passing us by. It reminds me of how fragile and precious it is. Like me, I guess you are all fighting something. However, despite the essential tragedy of it all, existence is so wonderful and amazing that it's still worth it. And for that I'm thankful. In a way I love you all.

    All the best.

  • This completely describes my view of life and the way this song makes me feel. :)

  • time passing by

    so sad and wonderful

  • Aphex Twin is the master of ambient music. So monotone, but still so good.

  • what a great tune and what a great video!!!!

  • absolutely gorgeous. one of my favorite tracks set to beautiful imagery. thank you.

  • Ice over running water is the perfect image for this song. Whoever made this is genius.

  • This tune is absolutely awsome, on the same kind of level as rhubarb off select ambient works 2. Does anyone know what album it's off and if you can still get hold of it?

  • its off select amb 2

  • yeah i've discovered its only on vinyl as i've got the cd. cheers tho. im goint to buy it on excursions in ambience. thanks

  • Spoilsbury toastboy FTW!

  • nice one peace and love to everyone out there

  • this song has aided me for many years

  • That's a great way to put it. I have a similar connection to this track.

  • I need this track..

  • oh so the lucky ones to have this jem on color vinyl well worth the cost from ebay years ago... i cuold meditate all day to this..

  • I sure would love a copy of this song. I wonder if emailing mp3 files from one computer to another is illegal......

  • i could pass you a copy....

  • Oh no..I wouldn't want to break the law of course.

  • If you look up aphex twin on myspace, one of the fake profiles has this song on its player with the download option enabled.

  • Lol minus me all you want, but this song is next to impossible to find!

  • I have this one on one of my rekluziv playlists already, but to hell with that, a longer version with such a beautiful video will do.

  • I dono sounds kinda depressing in a way

  • It is. Very much so to me, at least. But its still head and shoulders above any other Aphex Twin song as far as I'm concerned.

  • Reminds me of when i used to listen to Ambient Works II for hours. The video went well with the track. Stone in focus is very long and repetitive and drones excessively making it very hard to make videos to it.

  • Listening to Stone in Focus has such a calming, meditative effect. It reminds me of some classical Indian music performed on sitar by Ravi Shankar, with its repetition and drone-like sound. One of the most beautiful, unique compositions ever made!

  • mmmmmmmmm, returns me to my comfort zone! check my profile for the sickest aphex twin and other ambient chooonz!

  • Damn I love Stone in Focus, beautiful video too.

  • Pisses me off that this didn't come with the CDs.

  • thanks a lot for sharing the soundtrack, i've been looking for it :)

  • Thanks. Very profesional

Try with vietrmx21 from Autechre, is a better song!

  • beautiful, absolutely beautiful. Loved the Jam like title intro.

  • was this filmed from under water up, or from above water down?

  • OK after seeing this little "masterpiece" its hard to critcize you thje video shippes the mood from "stone in focus" perfectly. Its an amazing work what you have done just with the work of a camera and time. Big up for this video 10 /10 keep on your great work mate.

and pls check also my videos out that i have made for aphex twin ^^

  • this is on Selected Ambient Works, Vol II. but not on the CD only the Vinyl Version. Also Known As Track 19

The only hard-copy digital form of "[stone in focus]" can be found on the Astralwerks compilation Excursions In Ambience: The Third Dimension. On this compilation, it has been given the name "#19" and appears as track number 10

  • Wow, Awesome video. I agree on the tripod but disagree on the mirror effect.

Amazing song too. Stone in Focus is a rare one from Aphex Twin, very happy to see it getting played in I think a very appropriate video. :)

    Thanks a lot.

  • Hey nycpntr, thanks for recognizing my 'groundbreaking' tripod work :)

Yes, I probably should have eased up on the mirror-thing, but it's hard not to get carried away with all these cool effects.

The music is from Aphex Twins second album Selected Ambient Works, Vol II. Highly recommended ( as well as Vol I).

  • Hey balsamia that's a sweet video, would be good on big screen and on some drug :), I just want to know howd you do that? I doubt it's real but sometimes it looked like it. Good to see Aphex Twins work going to good use.

  • Hey emmusheen - thanks for commenting! Of course everything is real :-)

  • the last shot is the best... I still don't get how you did it...

  • cool. THank good someone is using a tripod round here. nice work, although I think u could use a little less of the mirror effect. This sounds like it would be from SAW 2, but it isn't/ What's this from?

  • This song is not used in Saw 2. But interestingly enough, a 1 or 2 second clip from this song is used in "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind". It's at the intro, just before Jim Carry begins narrating at the beginning of the movie.

  • I think he meant the album SAW2 (Selected Ambient Works vol. 2), not the movie. And he's right, but only on limited vinyl pressings, which pisses me off because it's arguably the best song on the album.
