At the time of the Caliphate, Christians had to pay way less than Muslims - the Jizya. Why was it collected? It was only to protect them. Once the Caliph was not able to defend them so he sent back all the money.

@naqshbandiottoman the taxes you are referring too are for goods and services that the governments of those countries provide ie for roads, schools, police, hospitals, etc... and EVERYONE pays taxes for those not just the muslims. Which is a lot different that having to pay a tax to worship freely without being killed

@Patrick59467 that jizyah aswell goes back to the "house of wealth" (baytul-maal) which is used to service the poor, benefit the state etc... also the reason why the non muslims pay the jizyah it's because their men are not obligated for defensive jihad whereas the muslim men are & have to do so.

This story is false !! now i am speaking as an arab since i am Egyptian !! at the prophet muhammed Days the Arabic Calligraphy used to be written without Dots and the dots began to be used at the days of the Caliphate Aly Bin Aby Taleb by a man named abu Al Aswad Al Dua`aly , and number two Prophet Muhhamed Peac be upon him used to stamp his Letters with his Ring , so that is to make sure his letter is from him not from anyone else . best regards and love from Egypt to Turkey <3

The original letter is in Topkapi Palace. The letter in the video is a handwritten copy issued by the Ottoman Khalifa, Sultan Selim Khan. That is the explanation for the caligraphy, dots, etc...

@MrMamado405 I've seen another video which shows the original letter. It doesn't look like the letter here, this is clearly a copy. The original one has a "khatm" stamp from the prophets ring and as you can imagine it looks much older than the letter you see in this video since it's 1500 years old. Peace!

The priests requested had a pan of ink for the Holy Prophet (pbuh) to dab his thumb with and stamp the letter with. However, one priest took it upon himself to put the Prophet's whole hand in the ink. The letter that you see in the video is not the original. The first Ottoman khalifa, Yavuz Sultan Selim Khan took the original and gave the monastery a copy. That is why the style of Arabic writing is contemporary Ottoman and the Ottomans added the drawing of the Holy Kaaba & minaret
