are you sure this is 808 state the mancunian band that formed in 1987 and was involved in the Madchester rave scene that sparked of in the late 1980s early 90s
I just thought of this song today oddly and had to see if it was on youtube. Just finished listening to Bjork's "Who is this" as well so I am in a mood (good one) but even if I wasn't this song would move me to tears from joy and sadness. I am having a hard time expressing in words the emotions this song makes me feel. Wish I could switch souls with everyone so they could understand.
There is something very evocative about this song that also defies conventional explanation. It resonates a tinge of 80's Crowded House/Tears for Fears melded with some trippy latter movement of electronica/punk that was unfortunately relegated to the underground scene.
Seriously, it's euphoric; it's beautiful, it's all of good emotions rolled up into a nostalgic trip down memory lane that I only know vicariously through movies. "Joys of Regret" indeed.
@supercooled I agree, it's a powerful and moving song--probably my favorite 808 State cut; it helps that I'm a MSP fan as well. What an atmosphere they create.
I feel that Eno's Metamorphic Mix, which I was pleased to see someone also posted, is even better. It's so true to the original, but with welcome embellishments, that to me it sounds like an extended mix.
Not bad for a 14-year-old track, could possibly make it in today's charts.
