I've come to the conclusion that all the bitchy comments about Callas' vocal decline (which never happened until she died) were having vocal or erectile dysfunction problems of their own (probably both) and they needed to punish something.
Wonderful two both. There are not words, amazing recording of two greatest singers of ever. If Callas were alive she would kick Domingo and Kaufmann out.
The BEST performances of the two major roles. Tuly, Callas was by far the best Violetta and Kraus the best Alfredo and this performance is just AMAZING!
Were did you get this perfect remastering? Mine is the EMI one, very bad, but still enjoyable! I wonder if one could find a DVD or VHS of the performance... I know it was filmed.
I was one of the fortunate ones to be there that evening, in 1956, in the S. Carlos Opera House in Lisbon, my home town.
Lets just say that to this say the feeling is unsurpassed. The magic of Callas and everything that preceded her, created enormous expectations. She was superior to anythinhg anyone could have imagined.
When I, much later, met her in London, I was able to tell her how I had been moved by her voice and performance, her only comment was: I loved Lisbon and its public.
it is no wonder that this is Callas favorite.. The sound is superb.. it is the radio broadcast.. and so much for the Callas nay sayers... her voice was Not weak, getting weak, small, not round, harsh, etc.. .. It was big, round, dark, and powerful

@figurinista1 That's wonderful--I'm envious. This is the best Traviata I've ever heard--Callas and Kraus are both incredible. Perfetto.
