  • I love this song. The movie where the drag queens sang this song is Billy's Hollywood screen kiss.

  • It really is all in the words - the lyrics it not about throwaway pop tune aka Andy Wlliams she made a bif mistake giving him lea way with this song! Petula is the ultimate.

  • Ed Finlan used to sing this.

  • Does ANYONE have the clip from the movie when the drag queens performed this song? That's the version I'm looking for.

  • Andy Williams had Pet as a guest on his TV show in 1969. Not realizing that she had just released "Happy Heart," HE sang the song on that episode -- which, of course, promoted HIS just recorded single. Pet, offstage, was understandably stunned and hurt. (And, of course, had no TV show of her own.) Both versions first charted April 12, with Andy's peaking at #22 over an eleven week run. The version by Pet -- whose U.S. career was then declining -- peaked at #62 over a five week run.

  • The lyrics are really happy but the melody sounds so sad.

  • billy's hollywood screen kiss was my first time hearing this song too .. LOLOLOL !!!!!!

Come to find out my mom has these old albums ! ........One ugly ass drag queen lip-syncing this one ! What is it with queens & showtunes !

  • Better range and more seductive. Pet's fabulous!

  • Her voice reminds me sometimes a bit of Eartha Kitt :(

  • Only knew the Andy Williams version - didn't know that Petula Clark did this slightly down tempo version. Love it!

  • just amazing PET, what a beautiful song. love you LIZ

  • this version is a lil slow and dreary to be happy i'm afraid.

  • Lol i heard it on Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss too :D

  • I heard it when it was new.....getting on now

  • sadly I remember when it was new.....old is ok

  • thats how i heard it and i LOVE IT!

  • LOL I think this song become immortalized by Billys Hollywood Screen Kiss... regardless, it's still awesome :)

  • The 4 King Cousins sing this song ,they sing it so beautiful/

  • I love this song. But now all I can picture is the Drag queen from Billy's hollywood screen kiss singing it. Still awesome.

  • @warwickstar1 I love that drag queen. It just shows you don't have to be beautiful to be special. She was not what you'd call a looker but I thought she was just adorable.

  • A friend sent me the Andy Williams version and I wanted to hear this version too. Not disppointed, actually made me tear. Love love love it! Yes I agree, they don't make pop songs like bacndaday, lalalalalala

  • the music, lyrics, and vocals are all incredibly powerful. they just don't make pop music like they used to... :(

  • Just love this song!

  • i love andy williams but i prefer petula's version - you can hear the words and it's lovely ( i can't understand what andy is actually saying! )

  • Wud u believe the first time i heard this was on Billys Hollywood Screen Kiss? im such a fag...

  • LOL!! my first time too even though I've been listening to Pet Clark since I was a kid!

  • glad 2c im not the only queer here lmao!

  • Not a thing wrong in the world with that! In fact, I came on here to ask where the Junior Vasquez remix was?!?

  • @kohstamojahn

    ME TOO!

  • Me, too. Don't feel bad.

  • @kohstamojahn

I just discovered it for exactly the same reason...

  • @kohstamojahn Me too!!!

  • @kohstamojahn Umm.. me too. You're not alone. haha

  • @kohstamojahn I just saw this post-I don't know if you are or not-but you have wonderful taste-

    such a fag too~

  • An intense song with wonderful lyrics powerfully performed by Pet Clark. Sublimal to listen to.

  • Both versions very good and wholesome, something that is now lacking in popular music. Good to here some for a change.

  • Alwalys like her singing.

  • Interestingly enough Ms. Clark's rendition was first but as davie12 points out (you DO seem to know alot about your subject davie) and which was much discussed at the time - Warner Bros, network, producers etc, - for her 67/68 special she graciously let Andy sing the song (she did not) which promoted it widely - hence the bigger hit for him. They are still quite good friends and she has performed often at his Branson, Mo. theatre. Awfully long post - sorry.

  • I love Petula's version much better.... it's much sweeter.. Love this song

  • Never heard this version. Andy's version was arranged by Gordon Jenkins and I like it better. The last PC song played on WIP, the station I listened to back then, was Don't Give Up, so this never made it on the air. Still great to hear Petula doing it. Thanks for posting!

  • Excellent... =))

  • Petula is a class act. This vocal is a great performance.

  • oh it sure sounds different with pet clark singing it thanks,,,,,,

  • Petula's version is much better; more of its time. Andy Williams, which I've heard (as he sang it on Petula's show) is kinda sing-a-long and a bit 1950s in my opinion.
