Can somebody explain to me why alot of ppl consider the Oilers uniforms among the ugliest ever????? I think they were beautiful even perfect. Well...I was a huge fan so I am 'slightly' biased lol!!!
@theschof96 LA is a lot like phoenix,a transient town..if you ever watch a cardinals home game, there are usually more fans of the visiting team than the home team.thats why the cardinals will never win:no home field advantage.they only got to the super bowl cause of kurt warner.the fools in arizona voted them a new stadium and now the owners have no incentive to field a winning team.
After the first two games of the '87 season Mike Rozier, not Dickerson was the NFL's leading rusher. Rushing for a 150 yards the next week at Buffalo. Than the strike which lasted for for 5 or 6 weeks happened. Mike still had five 100 yards games that year, and was also the leading rusher by one yard over Marcus Allen in the Pro Bowl. Mike went to his second straight Pro Bowl after the '88 season, although I'm not sure he had any carries?
I think we're kind of past the issue of attendance in the Sun Belt. It has improved and hit a peak before the recession.
What I find so interesting is when people say they have better things to do than see a sports event. OK. Well, there are 365 days in a year where there are 52 weekends. Teams play half of their games at home. Can't you delay that trip to the lake or movie theatre to another day or part of the month?
Thanks so much.....love this 80's football....watching two very accurate qb's is fun....Dickerson was great.....great game....hope you post all! thanks!
Uh, the Oilers were one of the worst teams in football from 1981-1986. I believe this game was the 1st of the '87 season, so of course attendance was bad. But it would get better after because the Oilers would make the playoffs 7 straight years starting in '87.
@raydeen1 people in crappy sports towns like houston, atlanta, miami, always make excuses for lousy attendance."we hate the owner"."it costs too much to attend a game","the team sucks"....etc.
@nobodysperfect06 it's funny...when a team is winning everybody loves the owner, and the opposite when the team is losing...good example is the colts.the irsay's ran that team into the ground for 25 years before peyton manning arrived.and now the experts say it's one of the best orginizations in the nfl.watch what happens when manning retires.without manning, that team would already be in los angeles.the locals surely would not have built a stadium without his contributions.
and what I hate more and also envious of is that the NFL has returned to every city, region, metropolitan area it has vacated except for Los Angeles. St. Louis lost the Cardinals to Arizona, Houston lost the Oilers to Tennessee(which became the Titans), Cleveland lost the original Browns to Baltimore(which became the Ravens), Baltimore lost the Colts to Indianapolis, Los Angeles has been without an NFL team longer than any of its predecessors going at 17 years now, i'm thinking about moving.
@nobodysperfect06 you are right...and in every instance the town that lost a team refused tobuild a new stadium, then when they are offered a new team the stadium cost way more than it would have cost them originally..take houston for example..bud adams offered to build a stadium with 100 million of his own money and the rest from hotel/motel rental car tax.would not have cost the locals a cent.but in order to get the "texans" they forked over a ton of their own money, not to mention psl's.
every Professional Sports Stadium, Arena, has received some form of taxpayer money, public funding or financing in every other state except for California in order to foot the bill to initiate construction of the Stadium, why is California like this and not other states? for what specific reasons as to why? because if I won the lottery i would donate that money to foot the bill for a stadium, well at least some of it
i'm a Southern California native, I live in Orange County, near L.A., I want an NFL team so I don't have to commute those long distances up to the Bay Area or down to San Diego to an NFL game, and what I hate is that almost nobody cares that there is no NFL team here, there is not much of a demand for one, I don't get it as to why people here are comfortable and content with having to settle for boring ass College Football with USC and UCLA, thats why i'm thinking up moving up to the Bay Area
@nobodysperfect06 The last 4 years that the Rams were in Anaheim I went to 3-4 games each year. The fan support was terrible, the average attendance was about 25-30,000 in a 65,000 seat stadium. When they did sell out or get close to the majority of the people there were cheering for the other team(for example when they played the 49rs). It shows that LA is a week football town. Remember we had two teams and rarely saw either one of them play home games on t.v. They were always blacked out!
I hear that the only way L.A. can support an NFL team if it was a consistent winner, the reason why the Rams were not supported were in their final years because Georgia Frontiere ruined the team, made horrible off-season moves that ruined the team, they say it is because L.A. and Southern California only likes winners, has fairweather fans, I've ranted and complained about this many times but I feel I am making a valid argument, why are the Clippers still in L.A. when there is the Lakers?
@nobodysperfect06 most cities in the sun belt are fair weather sports cities.look at phoenix.the cards have no home field advantage.every visiting team has more fans at the game than local because it is a transient town:everybody that lives there is from somewhere else.houston,jacksonville,dallas...all are piss poor sports cities.i looked it up.when dallas was losing in the late 80's the avverage attendance was barely 40,000.
my whole point that i'm making is that how come L.A. will support and tolerate a losing Basketball team but not a losing Football team? especially when L.A. is spoiled enough by the Lakers already, and don't use the Blake Griffin argument, he is barely new, I don't get why people went to Clipper games even before Blake Griffin arrived
Thanks for sharing this, big Rams and Dickerson fan as well as a Husker fan so it was nice seeing Rozier running the ball as well. Rams blew a 16-3 lead then Dickerson leaves for the Colts later that season.
@statman29neb i was at this game.for 3 qtrs it was like "here we go,another oiers season down the drain".then they explode for 17 in the 4th.great feeling...as far as dickerson,if he would have stayed in LA,i think the rams could have beaten anybody with everett throwing and him running.
I remember this game. Afterwards, Coach Robinson said he'd never seen a team fall apart in the latter part of the game the way the Rams did.

@raydeen1 but the problem was they always choke in the playoffs
during the stretch of 1989-1993 probably should have made it to the
championship game
