  • lovely music. love what you've done with each background to each song. fits perfectly with the music. kudos

  • 3:00

    "Love

    Where does it come from

Who lit this flame in us?

No war can put it out, conquer it.

I was a prisoner. You set me free."

  • the best war movie, why? cos showing you how madnes is this world!

  • This is definitely one of the best movies of all time! Fantastic cast and soundtrack too!

  • Chill-Out music

  • Absolutely beautiful. Did anyone else notice that the climax of this song is similar to Whitacre's Lux Aurumque (Light and Gold). Is that a coincidence? Either way it is a masterpiece.

  • A masterpiece..

  • The part of the movie where this track plays is incredibly moving...

  • One of the best movies of all times with one of the best soundtracks..my fav.part to this track starts at 5:59

  • May we labor together to ease the suffering of our fellows.

  • @jolly113

    no words but actions

  • One of the greatest films ever made (...in my humble opinion).

Noticed that the BBC use the soundtrack at times on their Panorama programs about the war in Afghanistan.

    Thanks for posting.

  • soooo strong

  • yes true its philosophical at many times.

in may 2011 comes terrence malicks new film "the tree of life", i really look forward for this one. even when you watch the trailer, some things reminds you on the thin red line.

  • The Thin Red Line didn't get the recognition it deserved because it stands out from what we usually expect from a movie about war. To the action-loving majority of the audience, "Saving Private Ryan" or "Flags of Our Fathers" have more commercial success.

All of them tries to display the unglorious aspects of war, but it gets lost somewhere down the long line of action. Thank you Malick for this masterpiece, it is not patriotic or overly dramatic. It simply is the best.

  • Sheer beauty... the pace and pathos of the entire film... extraordinarily summed up in pieces like this.

    Bell:

    "We were a family.

How'd it break up and come apart?

So that now we're turned against each other.

Each standing in the other's light.

How did we lose the good that was given us? Let it slip away? Scatter it careless? What's keeping us from reaching out? Touching the glory?"

  • This great evil. Where does it come from? How'd it steal into the world? What seed, what root did it grow from? Who's doin' this? Who's killin' us? Robbing us of life and light. Mockin' us with the sight of what we might've known. Does our ruin benefit the earth? Does it help the grass to grow, the sun to shine? Is this darkness in you, too? Have you passed to this night? ...these words encapsulate the futility that is war!

  • Heavenly , what more can I say. Thanks a lot. " The Swede"

  • I once thought war was a battle to conquer over something like land, area etc. My friends thought war was fun, but I thought war is horrible. But even if it's horrible, I'll have to fight for my own country bravely. But once I've confronted a armless enemy soldiers, I just can't finish him off. What if I shoot him in his head, which he has all the memories when he was a kid, his wife, his son or daughter. What if he was me? I just can't kill him. Now I know how it feels to be killed in a war....

  • @MariusKobbel, I was 7 when this movie came out. I'm 19 now, and the only reason I found this is because of Hans Zimmer. I'm going to watch this movie now, and tell my friends to watch it as well. Maybe it was ahead of its time, but now I think it would be perfect, just like this music.

  • @Dgrownman I had that same nostalgic feeling now when i'm older .. when I was 7 .. i went to watch it for the first time when it came out in cinemas back in 1998, i diden't quite understood it, found it boring. Looking back now, and re-watching it for the 3rd time, i found the true meaning it was trying to convey, I felt my heart was at peace knowing that i have came across such a wonderful poetic film.

  • Oh, there is humanity among the wounded and dying reaching feebly out stretched or cramped in their numbness of twisted pain. I held my fellow comrade, my friend, convulsing with ejaculation of breath until he became a memory in a nightmarish hell of the natural glistening jungle. 1968.

  • I play this at work at least once a day to calm me down.

the people passing by that hear it always comment on how pretty it is.

then I put on some August Burns Red so i can get some work done.

    Yeah!

  • im happy and glad to see that im not the only one who feels the true love of this film :)

  • And again, our world is turning dark and the most people won't see it, till its too late.

  • @MaThoSch Wikileaks helped altered the fate of the world. But apperently Julian Assange was bribed by Israel officals to not release any diplomatic cables about them and the US. Looks like Mossad did a good job at intimidation. Once agian our world is in the cloud of darkness.

  • Really an extraordinary film and an amazing piece of music to go with it.

The film really delves into the individual feelings and emotions of the combatants. In war, everyman is a casualty. Whether or not a soldier loses his life, his innocence and psychological health is gone forever. He never again looks at the world the way he did before War. And there is nothing in this world that will make him forget it.

War is not about who wins or loses, rather who loses the least.

  • The scene where the americans storm the Japanese hq/village/huts/barracks?? and one of the Japanese soldiers has his arms stretched out towards both sides and is screaming for both sides to stop killing eachother.........Ive always rememberd him and wonderd about why he was doing that.

  • @Kimchiboy08

I'll probably never forget that scene either

  • @sammythangerules Least we forget.

  • This Movie is Terrence Malicks trial to find humanity in war...he failed, because there is no humanity. But its the most epic and touching failure in history of motion pictures! Watch this Movie. And think about the message! Brilliant.

  • Elias Koteas as Capt. James 'Bugger' Staros was my favorite, and this is also my favorite piece of music in the movie. "You are my sons, and I'll keep you wherever i go". I think that's what he says. Favorite movie too, truly a piece of art,

  • "Are you righteous? Kind? Does your confidence lie in this? Are you loved by all? Know that I was, too. Do you imagine your suffering will be any less because you loved goodness and truth? "

  • @MrCoolhandzluke Greatest quote ever.

  • Wonderful music to a wonderful film. Its a one-off.

  • How can you not love this gorgeous piece of music? This is as good as it gets. So moving.

  • Comment removed

  • Can't nothing make you forget it. Each time you start from scratch. War don't ennoble men, it turns them into dogs............ Poisons the soul.

    Pvt. Witt

  • This film is poetry in motion, Ive never seen another that comes close. They tried to do the same thing with the New World but that one fell flat for me.

I however dont have such a fatalistic view of its message as it seems most do. Yes, war is horrible. Yes, men can be horrible to each other. But it is during those times when we most see what is good and beautiful about us, what is worth fighting for.

I never took this as an anti-war movie, but as the most realistic war movie Ive seen.

  • Awesome track to an awesome movie. The Thin Red Line is one of the best World War II movies ever made. It shows the moral side of war other than just awesome combat scenes, which in my opinion, is what most war movies lack.

    Thank you for uploading!

  • This movie was a masterpiece. No anti war movie out there comes close to the message like this one. It was about the soldiers and what happens to a seemingly average man put in an extraordinary situation. Life is too beautiful to waste on fighting over "property" as Sean Penn said. Everyone who worked on this film should give themselves a pat on the back. WELL DONE!!!!!

  • wow, 3:38-5:40 just grabs at my soul. I picture the part where the soldier is crying in the rain and throws the bag of teeth to the ground. Also the part where the guy(forgot his name) and the lady are on the swing. epic movie!!!

  • masterpiece

  • Fair nough. I think it's enough to beg the question what Malick had been doing in Paris for 18 years.

  • Hans zimmer is the best at composing sound tracks for any movie a true artist in sound & vision

  • No oscar this is bad! But oscar in a lot of people in the heart!

  • @camel1945 oscars are always rigged look at Shawshank lost best picture as well

  • rielly love that movie, the music, nature , acters .....perfekt

  • Depressing but true movie.

  • Agree with most of the comments here. Malick showed us the beauty of the world we live in alongside the horror and banality of war. The scene where they enter the village for me captures the complete chaos and absurdity of war like no other film has ever been able to do.

  • It's something else. It's almost as if Malick had seen God.

  • @TheChapaqua

    or Malicks approximation of God.

  • I just watched this movie...

It shocked me.. In a way a war-picture has never done before..

It's incredebly realistic, and not one of those simpel, flat Nationalistic Amarican movies that gloryfy deaths of the enemys.

This movie is beautifull in many ways.

I suggest watching this allone, no friend to wine that there isn't enough action.. Just let the movie drag you away..

  • This is one of those movies that was perfect and most people don't like it because they expected some kind of action extravaganza, and it came out right around the same time as Saving Private Ryan, which was a great movie but wasn't working at the metaphysical level that this movie was.

  • HARDISK DAMAGE IS LIGHT!!!

  • At 6:00, it starts to fuck with me real bad.

  • someone knows the name of the track playing when pvt witt dies???

  • @fer478 if you ever find the name of the track PLEASE. Let me know it's not one the soundtrack. And I have been searching all over for it

  • It's not worth it to waste our time in comparisons with Saving Private Ryan. Both films are the best War movies ever. Period.

  • I've seen quite a few war movies and I can tell you all this, none has ever struck me so deeply as this one.

  • Staring from 3:00, the song gets really deep into your soul. Thats just how I feel..

  • Hans Zimmer is the 21th century's Mozart,Beethoven, and every best musicians simultaneously! Love love love and love for million times. He is genius!

  • He is a legend.

  • hopefully in time it'll be seen as one of the great war movies. I think what usually throws people off is the length of the movie, and it took me till the second or third time i watched it to really appreciate it. Just a genius piece of work from Mallick.

  • really deep song

  • No movie has ever touched me on such a level before. I m sad that the movie didn`t get the recognition it deserve. Noone of my friends appreciate the movie, but im ok with that. Kinda makes it my own

  • It's not just a movie, it's a way of thought; existentialism. People think differently and have a different philosophy towards life, that's why they don't appreciate this movie.

  • Who are your friends ? This movie is well known for being an absolute masterpiece. Don't worry, you're not alone in this.

  • @TheStreetFabulous Is actualy quite comom most people didnt like this movie is quite obivious why most people dont apreciate. Most people dont like movies that make you think and so philosophical and deep as this one I mean you think that teens that love the violence and pure fiction of gore of Saving Private Ryan would appreacite this? For me this movie the best WWII movie out there is trully a masterpiece

  • @MariusKobbel

I totally know what you mean. I always show friends this movie but they usually are indifferent. For some reason it makes it all the more special to me. weird.

  • @MariusKobbel Try watching Brotherhood - a Korean film about the North/South war. Pretty touching and moving if that's what you're after. I highly recommend it.

  • @harro102 Taegukgi. Yeah i also recomment. I loved the ending scene..

  • @harro102

    Thanks, will do

  • @MariusKobbel I definitely appreciate The Thin Red Line. It is an incredible film that is the landscape of the human soul. It it a different kind of War Film. One that mirrors the harsh realities of war.

  • @MariusKobbel

From the 88 thumbs up it seems we all are of one similar mind.. none of my friends really appreciate movies like this either, or at all, really..

I know exactly how you feel: "Kinda makes it my own".

  • @MariusKobbel

First time I watched this I was 13 and I was not amture enough to get this. i was like "aw man wheres all the 'splosions'

i wish i could slap my younger self.. anyhow, when i watched it again in September 2010 (18 years old) I couldnt sleep that night. This movie hit me that hard.

    stay frosty

  • @corporateCoffee

yes indeed. i was like 15 when i saw it the first time and i found it so boring in compare to saving private ryan. WTH i was thinking about. for half a year i saw the DVD really cheap in a store, so i gave it a change to watch it again. and it was sundy evening and i didnt want watch the whole movie because i start to work early in the morning. good god i saw the whole movie till early morning and it was so amazing and dramatic at the same time.

  • @TheLuri89

I know right? it struck something within me. really deep movie. i saw someone else had written "its almost philosophical". it so is.

    stay frosty man.

  • @TheLuri89 that was exactly what I did.. I watched it when I was 14/15 thinking it would be Private Ryan in the Pacific, and was disappointed, but then I watched it again a couple of years later and just appreciated it for what it was. It has got that spiritual dimension to almost every scene, and the soundtrack is just amazing, it's like a long meditation. And I love Witt's contemplations and just the existential questioning of war and evil. It is to this day my favourite movie of all time

  • @MrLamotta86 oh yeah thats exactly the right description. same for me mate

i still wondering why this movie didnt became any oscar, sadly that it stands in the shadow of saving private ryan.

and i never thought that hans zimmer can make such beautiful soundtracks. totally different as the actionsoundtracks he made

  • @MariusKobbel "There's only one thing a man can do - find something that's his, and make an island for himself."

  • @MariusKobbel i couldnt agree more.

  • when i saw thin red line i knew i had seen and heard something special, it was a beutiful war movie, if thats possible

  • I agree on to the extent that it was a beautiful movie on war, but it was clearly anti-war regarding the whole theme, but also learning how to live without any control over what goes on

  • 3:37

  • 1;04 &1:42 for me

  • Preciosa.....y dolorosa :.(

  • this tune is sweet.

  • in this picture above it feels like your in one of the ships or troop transport sailing toward Guadalcanal where the story takes place.

  • Some people still remain convinced that Zimmer is not able to produce emotional scores... He has proven that wrong so many times and this is one of the greatest examples of it. When I first listened it, its pureness just grasped me.

Does anyone know which religious stance Zimmer takes?

  • @CGvdB Realy I dont know but he is German native!

  • I think he is Jewish but am not sure if he practices! if anyone has more detailed info pls share! thx.

  • I believe he said he does not believe in god in an interview about scoring this movie.

  • Like I say for Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, and other great films like these alike, I say the youth of today should just stop for a second and take a walk. I want them to know how good they have it. No fear of anything. Everyday is beautiful. Then they should watch The Thin Red Line. It's because of the men portrayed in the film that we do what we do today, and most of it is what we take for granted.

  • magyardszentri !!!

  • Perfect: especially the last 1/4

  • Did you see god?

  • @MichaelKing

yes. saw a burning bush while was hearing this, and thought like moses, DAMN! THAT MUST BE GOD!

    ''...''

  • your fucking abuser

  • I had luch with 'm yesterday.

  • god will take you to a account about that

  • what are you for an guy?

you are surely not a musician, right?

    that`s perfectly, that`s wonderful, that`s genius!

    so shut up

  • Please don't speak to me. Fool.

  • @xriesex

Seems that you know so much about me. I guess I am not entitled to forming my own opinion in regards to religious matters. I find it silly that you come in here and judge the mental integrity of others based on their personal views. People who live in glass houses should not throw stones, have you heard that oh wise one? Now you run along now, and continue to use religion as a closet for your imperfections. As a matter of fact, I think this a wonderfully composed song.

  • @xriesex "what are you for an guy?" lol

  • This entire soundtrack brings me close to God. I wish I could bottle the feeling the music gives me and give it to everyone I know. Zimmer nailed this one.

  • feel the same. not everyboday can be ready for that kind of honest feeling. I found some in a recent trip to the US. those new friends "live inside me now, forever" like it is so genuinely said in the movie... peace & compassion to all. Feel blessed for what you can see - who ever you are.

    philippe

  • u realize god is not a being personified...humanistic like u and me. u reallize god is literally everything. the earth you me...the cosmos....and once understand this harmony u are at peace. what more can u ask for.

  • No other film has affected my life like this one. I cried because the music was beyond perfection and the reality beyond even my worst nightmares.

If this film does not leave a sense of sadness and numbness to how fragile we are and how helpless we are from those who dictate the rules....nothing on this beautiful blue planet will.

  • Good Lord, what a beautiful comment.

  • @bigmadbad If the music from a movie affects people this way, I often wonder how people would feel had they been to these places...like when he reads the letter. It's devastating in real life.

  • @bigmadbad so true...so true

  • @bigmadbad

This film touched me like none before, or since. I wish I was more like Witt than Top, but I'm not.

  • @bigmadbad I TOTALLY agree with you. I also cried and realised we are living in a hard world. The movie is very beautiful.

  • @bigmadbad

    dear big mad bag,

thanks for that : i like the way you're talking about that movie/music, especially that beaut part.....

    you take mate !

    Yannick Demmerle

  • @bigmadbad I agree with your sentiments, you soppy bastard.

  • @bigmadbad You might be big, but you do not seem mad or bad. You sound like a decent and caring individual and this sad and beautiful world would do well with more people like you.

  • @bigmadbad

    you said it man.

you said it better than i ever couldve.

It evoked tears from me, and i wasnt able to sleep last night after i saw it.

this movie and all who contributed deserve much more than what was awarded.

  • @bigmadbad pussy

  • @garfrain hahahaha! takes a pussy to write a comment like yours. What a useless waste of time you are. Not getting attention at home?

  • @bigmadbad There's another Korean War movie worth watching, Tae Guk Gi Brotherhood Of War. It is the same as the movie thin red line. The Koreans are good at making emotional movies.

  • @bigmadbad badger baiter

  • I love this soundtrack and this film so much....

  • ben chaplin is a superb talent

  • "i just dont think your tough enough staros"

Great picture. Beautiful piece of music in a great movie.

  • can anyone please tell me the name of the song in the thin red line where they invade the small village and during the invasion the songs kicks in while they are burning the place etc. havent seen the movie in a while but i reckon its about 1 hr or more into the movie, thanks

  • are you refering to "stone in my heart" ? Because I think that's my favourite piece of music in the whole movie

  • found it! its actually this song - "Light" listen from 6 mins to the end

  • Journey to the Line

  • "Journey to the line", included in the osk

  • yeah, its a brilliant film

  • A stunning piece of music from an equally stunning motion picture. One of the best films ever made.

  • Nas viagens k fiz, senti o mar, tokei no topo, rasguei o mito, resgatei a ilusão, venci o medo, perdi-te a ti...

  • You live inside me, now - I´ll carry you wherever I go.

  • in this world. a man himself, is nothing. and there ain't no world, but this one. i might be the best friend you ever had...u don't even know it

  • And always, the sea, there. I go down in the night and I hear you come flying, under water, alone, under the sea that inhabits me darkly:

    you come flying.

I listen for wings and your slow elevation,

while the torrents of all who have perished assail me, blind doves flying sodden:

    you come flying.

You come flying, alone, in your solitude,

alone with the dead, alone in eternity,

    shadowless, nameless, you come flying

without sweets, or a mouth, or a thicket of roses, you come flying.

  • Where is it that we were together?

Who were you that I lived with?

    The brother. The friend.

    Darkness, light.

    Strife and love.

Are they the workings of one mind? The features of the same face?

Oh, my soul. Let me be in you now.

    Look out through my eyes.

Look out at the things you made. All things shining.

  • Anytime i read this, i get the chills. Just blows your mind at the end of the movie!

  • I have lived with something

    in common among men,

    when fighting with them,

when saying all their say in my song

  • hey guys does anyone know the soundtrack after when that guy gets trapped and get killed

  • We. We together. One being. Flow together like water. Till I can't tell you from me. I drink you. Now. Now.

  • All the shadows that pursue you, a lie;

    all the death-stricken swallows, a lie;

all the darkening zones of lament:

    you come flying

  • Imagine you are on this island. Imagine you make a pause, sitting there with them, laugh now. Imagine you during this war ... Just beautiful and hypnotizing. <3

  • With a beer in hand, listening to this arrangement of instruments.. and heaven really is on Earth.

  • Does anyone know the song tha's played in the scene when Jim Caviezel gets shot?

  • i know the song is here on youtube, i think Jisas Yu Holem Hand blom Mi or Soon my Lord ! look mabey its one of them

  • That's what I also wanted to know. I have listened to the whole soundtrack and that wonderfull part is not included.

  • they melanesian choir songs are on a CD called "Chants from the Thin Red Line" by Melanesian Choirs: The Blessed Islands. The songs used in The Thin Red Line are sung by the Choir of All Saints. The songs are: "Jisas Yu Hand Blong Mi," "Soon My Lord," or . "God Yu Tekkem Laef Blong Mi"

  • Journey To The Line + God U teken lef Blong Me (somenthing like that)

  • amazing music..gives me chills everytime I listen to this.

  • wonderful, enchanting

  • a sound of light in dark times...

  • yeah me too. blew me away.

  • The film changed my life too.

  • HANS RULES!

  • Is Hans Zimmer a german man ?

  • ja he is
