  • Missing one thing: A Marcus Miller bass solo! That would've topped it off but that was unbelievably fantastic! So much power and passion!

  • So lame, who are these losers anyway?

NYAAAAAH Only joking, this is awesome.

  • man watever happened to D'angelo, what a talented vocalist

  • НИЧТЯК!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Kool and the Gang!!!!

  • look at the handshakes at the start

    @0:12 'hows it goin'

    @0:18 'hows it goin'

    @0:21 '....suuuuppp daaawwwwwwwg'

  • Damn What a band...

    This is a killer line-up...

  • Gadds timing is off the hook!

  • Is that Tito Puente on percussion?

  • WHEN DID THIS PERFORMANCE HAPPEN?

  • Cocaine!!

  • d'angelo jus put so much soul into this record lol....i wish i could buy this somewhere...

  • i didnt know D'Angelo played keys. Always thought he only sang. very nice!

  • @opuyu D'Angelo played the Fender Rhodes and piano on all of his joints. He also plays guitar and drums.

  • @MrMallymal68 Agree'd as a preacher's kid he played everything, Including bass.

  • @Thaapuse: Indeed and he was a member of the Soulquarians.

  • @opuyu he actually plays a mean guitar too. so much so that BB king heard him one time and swore he was some old seasoned cat. wen he was told that de'angelo (who was 19 at the time) was playing he refused to believe it was him playing. de'angelo had to play in front of him to convince BB that it was in fact him(de'angelo) playing.

  • superb!!!!!!!

  • Sì ma avere una band di super jazzisti come questi e fargli suonare un pezzo così banale e ripetitivo è come avere una Ferrari e usarla per fare il giro del cortile...

  • Wow Eric sounds great! Steve Gadd made that Ginger Baker groove really happen

Is that Dean Brown prancing around in the background on guitar?

  • @dowsemeister

yeah, thats dean brown. it's actually funny, that someone so good always stays in the background. dean kicks clapton's ass, but he doesn't even seem to play. that's what I call understatement

  • @CptChaos88 Dean is a great player. Him and Hiram comes from that Mike Stern bag which all comes from Miles.

I guess he had to fill Hiram Bullock's spot who really stands out.

I'm sure Clapton knows dean can kick his ass!

  • Totally awesome!

  • wow the awesome things you find on youtube one of the better solos by clapton i've heard- what's up with d is he comin back or what?

  • D'Angelo is the truth. He goes from funk, to soul, to jazz, to acid rock, to this. He has REAL talent and the desire to be appreciated for his music. This made me listen to Eric Clapton which I normally would not have done, but they all sound fantastic. Your folks in AZ love you. Can't wait till you start touring.

  • the world is waiting for d´angelo to come back!!!!!

  • Amazing

  • Love it. Thanks for posting.

  • que du beau monde ,quel grand plaisir de les voir sur scène

  • D'angelo: such a shame

  • @NickBalto1 are u insane or what ? he's the purest link between yesterday and today's music...

  • @gilbraque111

I know man, i jsut mean its such a shame whats happened to him. He could of really set a new standard.

  • love this

    ahahah great

  • again, I say--cmon BACK D'!

  • @putorodas

probably you're right, clapton has his style, but it's not in the jazz; it's bluesrock what he plays

  • they should have played a different song. something mor funky or jazzy. this is just a clapton show. not enough space for marcus, steve gadd and D'angelo

  • then Eric would Slop around xD

  • all the greats together... my man Steve Gadd on drum,, marcus miller on bass and the man eric clapton on guitar.. D'angelo is great to.. and of course Sanborn is wonderful ..

  • si....bravini..

  • FABULOUS! Thanks for sharing! I wish they would release a DVD of the whole Sanborn series!

  • awesome!!!!!!!!

  • awesome!!!

  • superb!

  • 2: 269 white racist group exist in america, a number that even shocked my south african buddy. sir, there are some people who are not going to go beyond what to then is a very basic connection, the likes of which settles the matter in their mind.intellect allows us to go beyond what is a very rudimentary connection between things that have no real connection at all. in spite of my spelling at times when i am in a hurry to respond to people like yourself, I think u are out of your place with me.

  • liveforfunk, u obviously don't live n the real world or know much about the human mind! we as humans think in dualistic terms, good-bad, right-wrong. phenomena works on us and we are off into judging. to use a good example, you try to come across as wise and you start your comment by using the word "degraded" to describe socialists. if you read my comment you would c that i love the idea of blacks and whites getting together. that said, barack obama is called a monkey n 269 white racists groups.

  • doesn't really matter if we can't all get along! go's foe everybody~

  • @bugsmed try making a point that I can "get". what are you saying?

  • cool

  • Fantastic clip. That stage is overflowing with unquestionable talent.

  • As a black socialist, this almost brought me to tears. Music, look what it does for us both black and white!!!!!!!!!!

  • shit the band is soooo tight. what a teamwork from top musicians.

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!

  • Steve Gadd will never play this song like Ginger Baker. Why should he? Ginger also was stoned nearly every time, and i guess Steve stopped consuming drugs.

  • Damn. What a line-up. And I really dig Clapton's solo and tone here. Thanks for posting.

  • best version of this song, ever. Love gadd's playing

  • it's not a half time feel . . it's 1 and 3 accents .. just like ginger . . but he did in all on toms . . more tribal.

  • shame that d'angelos in the gutter :/

  • they should rly turn up D'angelo...i knw its a clapton song and stuff, but D'angelo is lyk a guest so he should b able 2 b heard....

  • It always amazes and saddens me to hear critiques from amateurs who could not carry any of these artists j...straps. Is it at all possible to celebrate genius without the grammar school arguments. Clapton, Miller, Gadd, Sanborn, et al long ago earned premier status. Go to your rooms without supper.

  • great!!!!!!!!!!!

  • man...that is cool!

  • I feel a Dean Brown in the background xD

  • tight

  • Comment removed

  • Gadd has been playing with Clapton for years now...I'm sure they changed the feel at the end to give something the whole band to groove on. You have all these r&b players up there doing one of the most famous rock/power trio songs of all time..what are they gonna do? Just copy Cream's version note for note?

  • AWESOME! Where you get that from?

  • verygroovyman!!

  • wow, don alias, marcus miller, d'angelo, eric clapton, and gadd on drum's!!!!! talk about an allstar band.

  • @marc777danielle

    I KNOW THAT'S RIGHT!

  • @marc777danielle ... and Dean Brown on second guitar ...

  • Can't even hear Sanborn.

  • Credits, please.

  • its wonderful

  • 5th year?? yeah right hahahaa

d'angelo is highly praised in the last 10 years by everyone. i dont even want to talk about clapton and marcus miller. what the hell are u talking about?

  • im saying: Its such a heave feel - it doesn't swing - the solo ain't really good, partly written, and playing the same 5 chords the same way throughout the song is zzzz - original version is alot better - so im saying = SHITPICK for these musicians. It sounds like crap, although i love clapton and marcus.

  • youre fucked man! this song is straight not swung maybe thats why it doesnt swing you faggot

  • It's not supposed to swing. It's an even 8th note tune, as it was originally played by Ginger Baker. Clapton always starts this solo off the same, in tribute to his original, and then takes off from there. Original version is more raw, but the playing on this is friggin' brilliant, and the vocals sound even better with D'Angelo on it. This version can't be beat.

  • d' is amazing!

  • Gadd is good!

    З.Ы.KEEP OUT!русские идут!)

  • marcus doenst sounds like marcus, they could have put any bassplayer there.

  • ridiculous song to play for these guys. Such a heavy feel - doesn't sound good, at all. Musicians on their 5th year could do the same thing - no joke.

  • why is the drummer doing a half-time feel?

  • far be it from me to say what's right or wrong, but i enjoy how the beat seems to really punctuate the riff.

no harm with a little experimentation...

  • headbanger623 'why is the drummer doing a half-time feel?'

Dunno mate, maybe he fucked up or just doesn't know any other grooves yeah???

His name's Steve Gadd, one of the most recorded drummers of all time. He's played with everyone because he's got great feel & I think he knows what he's doing by now - but you could probably do a better job right...yeah???

    Wake up boy!!!

  • Well, because Gadd is so good, it should actually be legal to criticize.

  • headbanger623

    1. credit to the original ginger baker performance

    2. just like that it makes the groove perfect

  • headbanger623 'why is the drummer doing a half-time feel

    1. credit to the original ginger baker performance

    2. just like that it makes the groove perfect

  • He's not "the drummer", he's Steve Gadd, and Steve Gadd can do whatever he pleases...

  • I hope even Steve Gadd cannot do whatever he pleases : )

  • Did you really just criticize steve gadd's feel? Really? Who do you play drums for? Oh nobody that's why you have time to make stupid comments on youtube.

  • Sorry? S.Gadd is great, but I mean that even he hopefully cannot do what ever he pleases.(answering a comment before) Do you understand that? This is for him, not against.

And:I do not play drums mainly, but I play it.

  • Not that I can hear. Same groove from the original. Steve Gadd can do no wrong.

  • Man, these guys are really having a good time. That's real talent and respect. What a gift!

  • Holy shit

  • when was this performance?

  • Wow! Steve Gadd playing a china cymbal, never seen that before

  • clapton with Sanborn .... nah :P

  • i love the way D`angelo has proven he can work with any musician give him a musician 2work with he can look with them and make them look good at the same time he works very well with raphael saadiq i hope they both get there music careers back on track and come 2 london and perform

  • Raphael Saadiq get his career back on track?! You slept on 'The Way I See It'? Easily one of the albums of the year! Saw him at The Jazz Cafe in November and he killed it...

  • STEVE GADD MAN! TAG HIM!

  • no... Marcus can't do his thing here! Clapton song and singing is a little overaged! It's also not interesting to play for the sax! Poor boy!

  • You may be right, nevertheless it still rocks!

  • marcus miller is the best!!!!

  • Awesome!! What a combination!

  • wonderful

  • I loved Eric Clapton, and D'Angelo as well. I feel that D'Angelo's addition to this song brings a great, soulful edge to an already great song. Their voices and musical styles are different, yet they blend so well. I just wish I could get this on my ipod.

  • d'angelo is black. gg

  • really????? OMG! What was your first clue?

  • AMAZING!!!

  • Ah! This is AWESOME!

  • The problem is that this musicians plays different styles, what do you think=¿

  • but it needs more sanborn. whats with the volume on his horn?

  • you cant beat claptons voice. d-whatever sounds like he has vocal training, but he also sound like a cat getting humped. claptons voice aint perfect, but its got SEASONING...

  • your bias clouds your judgement -- clapwhatever is good, but vocal wise he's easily outclassed by d'angelo -- remember the name, you'll be better off.

  • totally agree, clapton is not a gud vocalist, thats why jack bruce did most of the vocals for cream,in fact clapton sounds even worse on this one !

  • I agree that Clapton's singing wasn't that good when he played in Cream, but on his newer blues stuff, like "Me and Mr. Johnson", I think he's great.

  • d'angelo is the most soulful musician ever. clapton is good at guitar but let's be real, he can't sing worth shit.

  • clapton goes hendrix style -_-

  • Why is it so popular to knock Clapton? Don't give me that shit that he isn't that good. Buddy, BB King, these guys here, Stevie Ray (when he was alive), etc, wouldn't play with him if he wasn't world class. All these armchair music assholes sit around and knock him.

  • And Buddy Guy, BB King says that Eric was best of them all...

  • Je suis désolé mais ici on voit que Clapton ne sait pas jouer avec d'autres musiciens. On n'entends que lui et son habituelle gamme blues et une strato avec un son bizarre.

  • marcus miller is one of the best bassists ever!

  • Damn!!! that sounded good.

  • i think that this is a nice song, but in my opinion you don't combine such great artists just to play a cover of sunshine of your love..

  • I remember seeing this show on tv. I have wanting to find the complete show for so long, but can't remember when it aired or even the shows name. I thought it was a New Years special. Anyone know?

  • ok i've got it

  • where can i get tabs of this song?!

  • Clapton is great but when Stevie ray vaughan was about I felt he was in the shadows. BB king once said Stevie is the best he has ever heard. Some wonderful albums to appreciate his surely missed blessing.

  • "cbtmale---Clapton is great but when Stevie ray vaughan was about..."

look, my sight, the younger ones in the shadow of the rooties. clapton was never that technical-one, but he was and is innovative genius. I presume, if you ask Stevie he would say same.

  • i just watch his older vids and he looks so much different without the damn fro!!!!

  • Of course its sanborn (it does look like Letterman though)

  • Can you believe that you even have to question whether Sanborn, or Miller is there? I mean, Clapton is a good guitar player player but Sanborn and Miller are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better musicians than he is, so why are they toned down? I hate that about "stars". Benson seems to do that as well. It's like they don't want to be out-done(which is weird in Bensons' case because he is incredible). Jean luc Ponty is the opposite. He basically says "check out my band". Perhaps the best ever, too!

  • Perhaps the set sound engineer was Clapton's relative LOL...I am a band leader myself and you can NEVER out shine our band. They are just as important to you as anyone on stage.

So yes I agree...D'angelo's vocals at about 2:15 sound better than Clapton's too LOL.. just my opinion. It sounded great over all...but the guest musicians could have been raised up volume wise...they might as well as not been on stage LOL...dont get me wrong I CLEARLY understand that he is the lead, but come on

  • I agree with you

  • amazing song but i dont see sanborn at all from what i know that guy up front next to clapton cant be sanborn(or is it)

  • Damn..eric clapton, d'angelo...i must be in heaven..

  • Gadd and Marcus Miller!!??!! hotdamn!

  • Awsome!Great artists together. I've been searching for this song. Does anybody know where i can download it? thank you

  • D'Angelo is way too talented to play backup to anyone, but dammit this is so good. Singing and keyboard is sick. Come back D!

  • He is talented but he's backing Clapton. And he's also sitting in with David Sanborn and Marcus Miller. All of these guys are all too talented.

  • bluesyboy1, don't get mad at Clapton cause he gets more credit than the Jazz fusion session guitarist that you have a boner for (see Dean Brown) Clapton has a fairly accredited list of people/bands that he's played with Yardbirds, cream, Derek and the Dominoes, and he's been sucessful in the mainstream for 40yrs, not easy

  • Well, the original "Sunshine" really wassn't that funky - not what the tune was about.

  • steve gadd is da bomb!!! o my godd or better: o my gadd!!! he is awsome, I love the guy!!

  • I don't know why Clapton would be nervous. Its his song their singing.

  • D'angelo is very talented, pleeeaaaassseee come back D!

  • Hendrix was great and Clapton was and still is great - duh!

  • Holy crap! Steve Gadd on the drums to boot! I was wondering who was stepping in and making Ginger Baker's version look sad.

  • clapton seems nervous.

perhaps it's because he's surrounded by jazz greats and is afraid he's gonna get cut?

  • He play with them before... but this is Sanborn's show..

  • D'Angelo is the man. Chicken Grease is the funkiest shit ever.

stop arguing bout Hendrix and Clapton. They were good friends and the two premier guitarists of their time.

  • I was about to say this video sucked ass cuz of clapton but then i realized marcus miller and dangelo were on the same fucking stage!

  • jeah jeah, hendrix hendrix. Fuck it.

Check that awesome clapton godlike note on 3.18-3.20

    Pure emotion brothers, pure emotion

  • Hendrix came in London in the sixties to play with allready famous eric clapton

  • Hendrix admitted that Clapton was a better guitarist than himself, just fyi.

  • when??? thats crazy!!! but hendrix was really humble... clapton is good tho

  • Fact is,they were both humble and fantastic. I prefer Hendrix, but that's a matter of taste.Strictly in terms of musical and artistic contribution,Hendrix is superior. But what's bugging me is the low quality of artists today and how commercialism has taken over...As for the artists in this clip, old or new, love them all,D'Angelo is underrated...

  • i agree wit everything u said. i prefer hendrix then clapton, but both were and is the best to me, commercial is killing everything... thats why im trying to stay away from it and d'angelo is very underrated. u make great sense:)

  • c ki le chanteur (dangelo) jamer vu cuila // CREAM c bien Tokio hotel c pas bien

  • wow

  • yeah, every electric guitarist stole from hendrix, it's a given really... but GADD AND MARCUS, oh god why don't they play more?!!? screw sanborn and his crappy smooth jazz sound

  • Haha! I agree with you completely! M2 is the man.

  • Go out & buy Sanborn's "Another Hand" - anything BUT smooth Jazz.

  • "Another Hand" is a FANTASTIC album... but beware... If you're expecting the usual Sanbornisms, you'll be disappointed.

  • did anyone else notice that d'angelo is happy to see david sanborn and clapton but could less bought marcus

  • The thing with sunshine of your love, is that the leadlines and solo must be played in D minor & D major mix style, that's the point with the hole song..

  • singing along with D'Angelo must be a pretty intimidating thing to do...Clapton pulled it off.

  • hendrix could not hold a candle to clapton & this is NOT a hendrix song jerk

  • WTF you are kidding.....right?

  • your a fool for that.every good guitarist has passed thru hendrix one point in their life..and being that hendrix died in 70, i'd say clapton cant be better than hendrix since hendrix influenced soo many people and showed a whole new style of musis...every1 knows hendrix is god...so get your facts dush

  • Clapton was a Guitar God in 1965. One of the reasons Hendrix moved to England was because of Clapton. Hendrix was a Clapton fan before Clapton even heard the name "Jimi Hendrix". Hendrix agreed to let Chas Chandler be his manager only if he could play with Eric Clapton at a Cream gig. It was after that that they inspired eachother mutually. But, Hendrix has cited Clapton as one of his influences.

  • hendrix owns this crapy david clapton piece of shit he looks like a nerd he aint no fukin rockstar what a bitch

  • i'm going to slap you. before you stay stupid things, know your stuff.

  • hahaha oh my god... stupid...

  • All-Star line-up ! Steve Gadd shines and delivers solid groove. Unfortunately E.C. needs to retire stale licks and take nap.

    - Wayne Newton

  • lol...wayne newton???

  • Nothing quite like Steve Gadd on drums....He's the man
