Steve Perry recently stated something in November of 2011 article about the band , " He is now glad Journey is doing what there doing now " and much more on his moving on.
I cannot express how badly I felt. I actually felt like I lost something in that moment. I never got the chance to see them together. I did get tickets to see Steve in Rochester about 5 years later and that concert was canceled at the last second to and I thought maybe it was not meant to be for me. But, that concert was rescheduled and I did get to see Steve in concert and Journey in Milwaukee in the '97-'98 years.
fly to Roanoke. I believe we were in a Holiday Inn right across the street from the Civic Center. I couldn't wait for Sunday morning (the next day) to come. I awoke early to take a glimpse out the window to see if the trucks had arrived (7am). No trucks. I couldn't get back to sleep so I ducked out w/o the gf hearing me. I figured I get some Dunkin Donuts which was nearby for breakfast for us. While I was waiting, I overheard two of the customers saying the concert had been canceled.
I could not believe what I was seeing at the 2:02 mark. I grew up on Perry and Journey in the 70's. After graduating from college in 1985, I starting working for Kodak in Rochester, NY. I was so dedicated to the work, that I had not heard about Journey getting back together for the Raised on Radio tour until it was already in progress. I found the closest to New York would be Roanoke, VA. I thought, finally this was my chance to see the band I grew up on in person. I paid for the gf and I to
@unlikeanyotherhuman, yes that's correct. It is a business. Steve Perry is a clever business man, besides the fact he is the hottest singer ever on the planet!! Missin him
I remember watching this show the first time it aired to this day his comment about not really feeling part of the band still puzzles me a little bit I mean if he wasn't really part of the band why was he allowed to Fire a founding member Ross Valory during the Raised on Radio sessions?? oh well I'm just hoping those rumors about him doing a new solo album are true I wan't him to record again :)

Really? :( I thought Journey was the happy, lovely, rock n' roll band never made it before... but it's right...Journey is Steve Perry's Soul... anything else.... Dude This Hurts...
I think that some of this sory is very sad. I saw Jurney way back 7 years ago, and I feel horrible because of it. When I saw Jurney in a side show at the concert, I wanted to cry. Litterlly. And still, I feel hurt and awful because I vever saw Perry with Jurney, and he went through hell, which sucks!

I Just feel that a lot of people got i all wrong about Steve Perry and his comment about not feelin part of the band. He is a sensitive guy that got really emotional about the songs he was singin and it was up to him really to get it all out there. Every night on stage he gave it all to you people and in many ways they were on diffrent levels in the band. Steve had problems being on stage and at the same time dealing with his personal problems and sadly the other guys took it the wong way.

No Steve Smith, No Journey. Any musician or drummer can tell how great Steve Smith is. Why they fire one of the best drummers of all time? Unbelievable.
Journey Is Not Journey With Out Steve Perry! I Mean Come On They Prove It Everyday. They Sing The Same Songs They Wrote With Him. If They Could Make It Without Him..Would You Think They Would Have New Songs 2 Sing By Now?
@NoSteveNoJourney haha thats funny i can only imagine you would like Steve Perry to be doing you up the arse you seem to like him so much and his gay whiney voice.
I notice you didnt resond to those crappy songs i listed above that is because you know they are shite. You are proving yourself as a dumb American. Pleas
@NoSteveNoJourney and you are laughing about this shows your stupidity. Ok lets run it down Open Arms, Dont Stop Believin, Anyway You Want It, Suzanne, I'll Be Alright Without You, are you dumb enough to call those good songs are you dumb enough to say that is the best Journey has to offer. No what the best they have if from their first album. Those songs are sappy dribble that people like you eat with a spoon just face it man. This is getting old
@TheBeaugraham Hate to say this but was'nt Open Arms their biggest selling single,up until Don't stop believin overtook it years later on download sales. Journey were going nowhere til Steve Perry came into the band,& they've gone nowhere since he left. And as for your above comment about Steve having a gay whiney voice,i presume your indicating you think hes gay? He is'nt,Steve has lived with numerous women & was when all the above mentioned songs were recorded, with the exception of Suzanne.
@missbitch67 Why am i not suprised that a song as insipid as dont stop believin is their number one single. Almost every song of their first album from 1975 tops that one but only real Journey fans would know that. I happen to think that the song Seperate Ways was the best song that Steve did vocals on and it actually rocked. Journey went way to commercial when Steve joined and most of the songwriting was weak im sorry im not trying to offend you but that is how it is
@TheBeaugrahamJourney went way to commercial when Jon Cain joined. They could not carry on recording the sort of songs they did in75 in 1980,times change & so does music.I think you're probably one in a million when you say Don't stop believin' is insipid, its given a lot of people hope & bought happiness to a lot of people, sorry if thats a bit namby pamby for you but thats the way it is. If you don't like Journey with SP in the band the simple thing is not to watch or listen.
@missbitch67 For the most part i dont there are exceptions i have about 5 or 6 Journey songs that Steve sung lead on and they arent the cookie cutter songs that they mostly released. I gets on more nerves that only the true music fans can see that the first incarnation of Journey was clearly better. As far as Dont Stop Believin is concerned i see it for what it really is a song just to make money there is fake emotion behind it how many times can you sing the same song. Ya Know
@TheBeaugraham hahah man my spelling sucks what i meant was it gets on my nerves. Anyone with any musical ability and taste would totally get off on their first album 1975 self titled. Infinity was a decent album Greg was still singing on that one. Rased On Radio however is terrible so over prodced and clean and the album is full of meaningless ballad after ballad. That album does have one great song Be Good To Yourself
@missbitch67 : Actually, I've heard Journey is doing well these days... according to the Stern show, they recently drew 30,000 people to one of their concerts.
@DeepSouthWrestling1 Oooh 30,000 people!! What a fantastical amount of people at one concert,my god i never knew any group could pull in that many people to one concert. Silly me that was me being nice, when Journey can pul in 90,000 people plus night after night for nigh on a year thats when you & anyone else can tell me UnJourney are doing well.
@missbitch67 : Well, how many bands can pull in 90,000 people a night? Stones? Springsteen? Maybe... don't forget, we're talking about a band 20 years removed from their prime with a sound-alike singing for 'em... look at where all their contemporaries are playing these days... 1,000 seat casinos and outdoor festivals with other has-beens...
@DeepSouthWrestling1 You're right we are talking about 20yrs ago,but 1 thing i can guarantee is that if Steve Perry were to front Journey again those 90.000 seat arenas would be packed out again,& before anything is said about his voice there is nothing wrong with it,its got deeper its not out of tune!!
@missbitch67 : I don't know about that... sure, the initial tour would do well, but are you implying they could become relevant again? Like they were in the 80s? I think that's a little far-fetched. They are a nostalgia act at this point. They would have much more credibility if they didn't call it Journey and didn't play Perry's songs... as musicians, they're living in the past. BTW, most arenas only hold 20-30,000 seats. 90,000 is more like a football field...

@NoSteveNoJourney For sure Steve helped them sell records to the mindless masses like yourself we have already covered that before. Sorry man the first Journey album was the best the most adventerous and it had great compostions. Can you understand that im serious its sad that im 10 years younger than you and can realize these things. Talk to a real Journey fan and they will same the same thing the Journey you like is what they call Your Mom's Journey the Pussy Journey pretty wimpy stuff
@NoSteveNoJourney haha you make me laugh man you are a fuckin idiot a 41 fuckin idiot with girly girl taste in music you would rather have the high sings like a bitch Steve Perry sing his gay little songs like Dont Stop Believin, Open Arms, Anyway You Want It, Faithfully. Im guessing you are American for one get some taste ok. Your Steve Perry Journey is SHIT its money making ballads for the masses and you fit right in there you are the head leader. PLEASE GET SOME GROWN UP MUSIC TASTE
@NoSteveNoJourney Then you shouldnt have an excuse for having this bad of taste in music. All im saying and this is a fact is Journey with Steve the music had no substance man im sorry it had nothing to offer. No Greg No Journey he was there first and is there real singer. There was a Journey before Steve and there is a Journey after him this man crush you have on Steve Perry is kind of funny. I like real music not crap and for the most part the 1980's was weak and you know it
@NoSteveNoJourney I love Foreigner but i would not call them corperate rock they wrote better songs than Journey and Lou Gramm could out sing anyone i will leave that one alone. How old are you im wondering yes there is a reason sales soared because people like crap i hate to tell you look at Michael Jackson's thriller those songs are terrible but it is the second biggest selling album ever. Brittany Spears sold lots of albums so what does that prove it proves people like mindless music.
@NoSteveNoJourney Open My Ears to what man how how and whiney Steve's voice is. How they sold out how cheesy their 1980's output was how every song almost was a sappy ballad. What more do you need. Greg Is a better singer and there music was better before Steve how many times do i hafto repeat myself what dont you understand. I bet you like the crappy Dennis Deyoung songs from Styx that would explain a lot
@NoSteveNoJourney Oh man Greg has a nicer tone and a way easier to listen to voice for one its more masculine that is just one point. Oh sorry he doesent have the range Steve has big Whoop Greg is not self indulgent he sings well. There music was fine before Steve Perry and can you be that stupid for not seeing the obvious. Steve took Journey and made them more MONEY key word there is money he didnt make there music on bit better. Open Your Eyes
@NoSteveNoJourney Mother Father from Escape not bad it it doesent touch Look Into The Future. Look Into The Future has everything great lyrics an awesome vocal from Greg Great playing from the rest of the band , Schon's smokin guitar, the instrumental sections the progressive edge that it has. Sorry i dont do opinions Opinions are for people that are afraid to lay out the facts. Opinions sometimes are no good because what is someone had bad taste are you gonna listen to their opinion. I wouldnt
@NoSteveNoJourney In My Opinion moron you say i feel sorry for ya man you obviously have pretty bad and generic taste in music. Can you even wrap your head around that song is maybe its to much music for you. That wasnt an opinion Look Into The Future is the best song in Journey's catalogue prove me wrong name me one better you cant can you. You arent gonna win a music argument with me my knowledge is through the roof and my taste impecable
@NoSteveNoJourney Infinity-1977 had its moments fact is Greg Rollie has a much more pleasant voice to listen to than Steve Perry. To bad because Journey's debut is their best the song writing is strong the musicianship is top notch not to mention Neal's guitar work is stellar. There isnt a better Steve Perry song that can touch In My Lonely Feeling/Conversations or Of A Lifetime. Not to mention the song Look Into The Future is Journey's best song in their catalogue period.
@NoSteveNoJourney some people just dont get it NO Gregg Rolie No Journey ok Steve Perry has a high pitched girly voice brought in to the band to sell more records to the mindless masses. Like it or not thats how it was that isnt my opinon that is exactly what happened. The first two Journey albums are musically better than any other commercial sell out Journey album. Please listen to their 1975 debut and 1976's Look Into The Future and you will realize that i know what im talking about.
1:46 - When he said he never really felt like he was ever a part of the band, I felt really bad. You would never really guess he felt like an "outside guy".
It is so sad that Steve doesn't realise he WAS Journey back then.Journey couldn't get played on the radio until Steve became lead singer. From then they suddenly got recognised by people and had hit songs. This was due to Steve's amazing vocals and also his song writing talent.Steve not being in Journey now is the reason why Journey is not the band it once was with Steve.Arnel has a 'good voice' but he will never be 'The Voice'.
Sable look on the new Journey website. It should be under Albums or News if there is.
For me Journey will never be the same without Steve. To me the band now is new Journey. I know there were others before Steve and have been others after him but for me Steve made the band what is was. He gave them the radio play they desperately needed. With his amazing vocals and co-writing talents Journey became noticed and loved.I don't think they will ever be again what they once were with Steve Perry.
Steve Perry was not Journey The Original Journey was and will always be Journey for many reasons. The Steve Perry era is the bubblegum sterile pop. To hear the real Journey get their first 3 albums to hear the good stuff without Steve Perry's over the top vocals.
I agree the Steve Perry is not Journey as I still enjoy them to this day, but it was because of Steve Perry that the band became a classic...It's too bad those band can't work things out I would love to see Journey with Perry, Rollie and Smith.
@007garok Damn right! HE is the true voice of Journey! Anybody else that they try to replace him with as lead singer has a huge shadow to walk in, some big shoes to fill! When you heard his voice on the radio, you KNEW who he AND Journey was!
Steve Perry recently stated something in November of 2011 article about the band , " He is now glad Journey is doing what there doing now " and much more on his moving on.

I doubt Steve thinks about performing live many times a day.
According to Herbie Herbert, by 1982, Steve didn't want to tour at all.
Who could blame him?
Herbie had Journey on the road for 200 shows/year the first 4 years Steve was with them.

There is much bitterness between him and the other members for Steve's not touring with them.

@2011Guitarshreder Steve is a 62-year old man.
Hardly likely he's going to do 50-show tours in front of huge crowds.
That takes a lot of energy and a totally intact voice, which I think Steve has neither in the year 2011.

-does that bother you?
The real problem with Journey today is that they have not created a viable post-Perry song catalogue/identity,
therefore, they are a glorified karaoke band.

TheBeaugraham 1 year ago
@NoSteveNoJourney and you are laughing about this shows your stupidity. Ok lets run it down Open Arms, Dont Stop Believin, Anyway You Want It, Suzanne, I'll Be Alright Without You, are you dumb enough to call those good songs are you dumb enough to say that is the best Journey has to offer. No what the best they have if from their first album. Those songs are sappy dribble that people like you eat with a spoon just face it man. This is getting old
TheBeaugraham 1 year ago
@TheBeaugraham Hate to say this but was'nt Open Arms their biggest selling single,up until Don't stop believin overtook it years later on download sales. Journey were going nowhere til Steve Perry came into the band,& they've gone nowhere since he left. And as for your above comment about Steve having a gay whiney voice,i presume your indicating you think hes gay? He is'nt,Steve has lived with numerous women & was when all the above mentioned songs were recorded, with the exception of Suzanne.
missbitch67 1 year ago
@missbitch67 Why am i not suprised that a song as insipid as dont stop believin is their number one single. Almost every song of their first album from 1975 tops that one but only real Journey fans would know that. I happen to think that the song Seperate Ways was the best song that Steve did vocals on and it actually rocked. Journey went way to commercial when Steve joined and most of the songwriting was weak im sorry im not trying to offend you but that is how it is
TheBeaugraham 1 year ago
@TheBeaugrahamJourney went way to commercial when Jon Cain joined. They could not carry on recording the sort of songs they did in75 in 1980,times change & so does music.I think you're probably one in a million when you say Don't stop believin' is insipid, its given a lot of people hope & bought happiness to a lot of people, sorry if thats a bit namby pamby for you but thats the way it is. If you don't like Journey with SP in the band the simple thing is not to watch or listen.
missbitch67 1 year ago
@missbitch67 For the most part i dont there are exceptions i have about 5 or 6 Journey songs that Steve sung lead on and they arent the cookie cutter songs that they mostly released. I gets on more nerves that only the true music fans can see that the first incarnation of Journey was clearly better. As far as Dont Stop Believin is concerned i see it for what it really is a song just to make money there is fake emotion behind it how many times can you sing the same song. Ya Know
TheBeaugraham 1 year ago
@TheBeaugraham hahah man my spelling sucks what i meant was it gets on my nerves. Anyone with any musical ability and taste would totally get off on their first album 1975 self titled. Infinity was a decent album Greg was still singing on that one. Rased On Radio however is terrible so over prodced and clean and the album is full of meaningless ballad after ballad. That album does have one great song Be Good To Yourself
TheBeaugraham 1 year ago
@missbitch67 : Actually, I've heard Journey is doing well these days... according to the Stern show, they recently drew 30,000 people to one of their concerts.
DeepSouthWrestling1 1 year ago
@DeepSouthWrestling1 Oooh 30,000 people!! What a fantastical amount of people at one concert,my god i never knew any group could pull in that many people to one concert. Silly me that was me being nice, when Journey can pul in 90,000 people plus night after night for nigh on a year thats when you & anyone else can tell me UnJourney are doing well.
missbitch67 1 year ago
@missbitch67 : Well, how many bands can pull in 90,000 people a night? Stones? Springsteen? Maybe... don't forget, we're talking about a band 20 years removed from their prime with a sound-alike singing for 'em... look at where all their contemporaries are playing these days... 1,000 seat casinos and outdoor festivals with other has-beens...
DeepSouthWrestling1 1 year ago

TheBeaugraham 1 year ago
@NoSteveNoJourney haha you make me laugh man you are a fuckin idiot a 41 fuckin idiot with girly girl taste in music you would rather have the high sings like a bitch Steve Perry sing his gay little songs like Dont Stop Believin, Open Arms, Anyway You Want It, Faithfully. Im guessing you are American for one get some taste ok. Your Steve Perry Journey is SHIT its money making ballads for the masses and you fit right in there you are the head leader. PLEASE GET SOME GROWN UP MUSIC TASTE
TheBeaugraham 1 year ago
@NoSteveNoJourney Then you shouldnt have an excuse for having this bad of taste in music. All im saying and this is a fact is Journey with Steve the music had no substance man im sorry it had nothing to offer. No Greg No Journey he was there first and is there real singer. There was a Journey before Steve and there is a Journey after him this man crush you have on Steve Perry is kind of funny. I like real music not crap and for the most part the 1980's was weak and you know it
TheBeaugraham 1 year ago
@NoSteveNoJourney I love Foreigner but i would not call them corperate rock they wrote better songs than Journey and Lou Gramm could out sing anyone i will leave that one alone. How old are you im wondering yes there is a reason sales soared because people like crap i hate to tell you look at Michael Jackson's thriller those songs are terrible but it is the second biggest selling album ever. Brittany Spears sold lots of albums so what does that prove it proves people like mindless music.
TheBeaugraham 1 year ago
@NoSteveNoJourney Open My Ears to what man how how and whiney Steve's voice is. How they sold out how cheesy their 1980's output was how every song almost was a sappy ballad. What more do you need. Greg Is a better singer and there music was better before Steve how many times do i hafto repeat myself what dont you understand. I bet you like the crappy Dennis Deyoung songs from Styx that would explain a lot
TheBeaugraham 1 year ago
@NoSteveNoJourney Oh man Greg has a nicer tone and a way easier to listen to voice for one its more masculine that is just one point. Oh sorry he doesent have the range Steve has big Whoop Greg is not self indulgent he sings well. There music was fine before Steve Perry and can you be that stupid for not seeing the obvious. Steve took Journey and made them more MONEY key word there is money he didnt make there music on bit better. Open Your Eyes
TheBeaugraham 1 year ago
@NoSteveNoJourney Mother Father from Escape not bad it it doesent touch Look Into The Future. Look Into The Future has everything great lyrics an awesome vocal from Greg Great playing from the rest of the band , Schon's smokin guitar, the instrumental sections the progressive edge that it has. Sorry i dont do opinions Opinions are for people that are afraid to lay out the facts. Opinions sometimes are no good because what is someone had bad taste are you gonna listen to their opinion. I wouldnt
TheBeaugraham 1 year ago
@NoSteveNoJourney In My Opinion moron you say i feel sorry for ya man you obviously have pretty bad and generic taste in music. Can you even wrap your head around that song is maybe its to much music for you. That wasnt an opinion Look Into The Future is the best song in Journey's catalogue prove me wrong name me one better you cant can you. You arent gonna win a music argument with me my knowledge is through the roof and my taste impecable
TheBeaugraham 1 year ago
@NoSteveNoJourney Infinity-1977 had its moments fact is Greg Rollie has a much more pleasant voice to listen to than Steve Perry. To bad because Journey's debut is their best the song writing is strong the musicianship is top notch not to mention Neal's guitar work is stellar. There isnt a better Steve Perry song that can touch In My Lonely Feeling/Conversations or Of A Lifetime. Not to mention the song Look Into The Future is Journey's best song in their catalogue period.
TheBeaugraham 1 year ago

SableWWEOriginalDiva 1 year ago 9
@SableWWEOriginalDiva I can't believe Steve felt that way either.
It is so sad that Steve doesn't realise he WAS Journey back then.Journey couldn't get played on the radio until Steve became lead singer. From then they suddenly got recognised by people and had hit songs. This was due to Steve's amazing vocals and also his song writing talent.Steve not being in Journey now is the reason why Journey is not the band it once was with Steve.Arnel has a 'good voice' but he will never be 'The Voice'.
eljay345 1 year ago
@eljay345 ~ Yes, Arnel has a very nice voice, and sounds a LOT like Steve! Do you know if they have any new material coming out?
SableWWEOriginalDiva 1 year ago
Sable look on the new Journey website. It should be under Albums or News if there is.
For me Journey will never be the same without Steve. To me the band now is new Journey. I know there were others before Steve and have been others after him but for me Steve made the band what is was. He gave them the radio play they desperately needed. With his amazing vocals and co-writing talents Journey became noticed and loved.I don't think they will ever be again what they once were with Steve Perry.
eljay345 1 year ago
@SableWWEOriginalDiva : Yeah, especially since he had one of the original members fired...

Steve Perry was not Journey The Original Journey was and will always be Journey for many reasons. The Steve Perry era is the bubblegum sterile pop. To hear the real Journey get their first 3 albums to hear the good stuff without Steve Perry's over the top vocals.
TheBeaugraham 1 year ago
@TheBeaugraham
I agree the Steve Perry is not Journey as I still enjoy them to this day, but it was because of Steve Perry that the band became a classic...It's too bad those band can't work things out I would love to see Journey with Perry, Rollie and Smith.

STEVE PERRY WAS IS and ALWAYS WILL BE- " JOURNEY "
007garok 1 year ago 27
@007garok Damn right! HE is the true voice of Journey! Anybody else that they try to replace him with as lead singer has a huge shadow to walk in, some big shoes to fill! When you heard his voice on the radio, you KNEW who he AND Journey was!
