    All the Best.

  • To Continue:

I have no idea of what the company is or represents today but the period of Mary Kay's life and business that we filmed was one of great achievements, warmth and a genuine sense of affection for all.

    Quite the lady.

  • Yes, quite the lady. Thanks for coming back with your response. I have never seen this before, do you know how I can get a copy of this movie? Yes, I am a Mary Kay Consultant, and no, no one has called me pushy. Just to make a few comments, I am sure there are some cut-throats out there in this business, just as I am sure there are many who are not. I choose to honor Mary Kay's philosophies. I have customers' who call me when they need products, they use nothing else, this is their choosing.

  • Continued; My regular customers get discounts, and for special occasions, everyone may get a discount. Please don't be down on all Mary Kay Consultants, or Directors, this is a business, and all Mary Kay products have a 100% money back guarantee.

I have had alot of fun doing classes and getting together with the women. Now I will get down off of the soap box. Thanks thrasher1218 for responding to my comment and let me know if you know where I can get a copy of this movie, or film. Thanks.

  • When we started to make this film we researched as always and while I was at first skeptical I came to realize just how much this woman had accomplished.

While shooting, dressing sets and doing our general art department prep we were continually approached by women who said that Mary Kay had opened totally new door in their lives. She bolstered their self confidence, taught them how to meet and enjoy new friends and customers, and granted them a financial platform that stabilized their world.

  • I have only read a few comments so I am not sure if this is just for fun, or if you are making fun. You know, every company has it's good and bad, people who go by the rules, and people who make up their own rules. Mary Kay was a phenomenal woman. She worked very hard to make her empire, read her biography. She knew what hard work and long hours were, and meant. She cared about her employees and her customers. Mary Kay Skin Care and Cosmetics are great products.

  • I am sad that her empire has been so corrupted. i hardly believe that she really wanted it to be as cutthroat and deceptive as it is today

  • The company Mary Kay started is not the one of today. Credit card use has destroyed the Awards Seminar, made frauds of the so called winners, and rendered any real achievement by Court of Sales consultants, moot. Since MK Corporate makes money from wholesale orders..they do not care and continue to let this galatic fraud go on.

-20 Year Veteran Senior Sales Director

  • I heard that the average mary kay saleslady makes a real profit of $1800 a year - if she is lucky.

  • I'm a average mary kay consultant and I make that in about 2 months.

  • $1,800 every 2 months would give you a profit of $10,800 annually. How many hours weekly do you put in to earn this? Do you consider this a livable wage or merely a bit of extra income for incidentals?

  • Hhhmm... I am very impressed with Mary Kay's business strength. I am impressed that one woman conquered the corporate world so much. Where can I get this movie? Does anyone know when it came out? I know there is a DVD that Mary Kay puts out, but I have never seen it. Thanks for posting this intro to the movie. It looks interesting with that song and dance number.

  • We all have beauty products that we like. I sell MaryKay to family and friends who likes them also. Instead of us buying other expensive skin care program, I prefer using the products that I've been using for years. I'm just use to it. I'm not doing this to profit but only for personal use. I don't care about my director getting paid for commission. It's only a little bit she gets from my purchase.

  • I use the products because I like them. I sell them to make money to buy my own for free. I could shop at walmart or clinque but I like Mary Kay stuff better. I like knowing that my purchase helps my director drive a caddy......why would I be jealous of that? Better than walmart or Estee Lauder getting my money. Sheesh people. Chill.

  • Bare Escentuals is basically ground up mineral talc powder with no base. It settles in lines/wrinkles and practically takes a chisel and hammer to get it off. Not good for you skin AT ALL, but especially those with oily skin as it settles in pores and tends to discolor as the oil is not absorbed.

  • I have tried many other product lines and only the TimeWise keeps my face clear. MK has great products. I'm sorry if they don't work for you. You would probably be a much happier person if you didn't stress so much about this.

  • Since you have no idea what my background/experiences are, would you care to be a teensy bit more specific about those "things that I supposedly know nothing about?" Thankies! :D

  • I had to comment about this one. BeautiControl doesn't lease out their mustangs. When you earn your mustang you get the title!!!

Just thought that I would share:)

  • What is sad is your mental attitude and lack of information, basically, ignorance. There are many women who have already and continue to earn that Cadillac, one, which happens to be a very good friend of mine without degradation or morals as you speak.

What makes you think that someone should not work to continue to earn a Pink Cadillac, personalized with the consultant's name? Or should it be given freely? A monthly quota is expected in any sales position. Please educate yourself.

  • Because that pink Cadillac can only be acquired by convincing others that they need to be in Mary Kay, and trust me, friend, that's where the buggery is. I have combed through hundreds of MK documents covering recruitment tactics, and every last one of them is about emotional manipulation and hot-button pushing. So let me ask you this: How can your friend sleep at night knowing that she followed/engaged in such manipulation just so she could drive a pink car?

  • My friend have a team of educated women who took the time to READ their agreement, and then they took the time to READ their consultant guide, and LEARNED the skills to sell their products. As a result, the TEAM is doing great and many have been promoted and continue to grow. It's a pity that you actually went through HUNDREDS of MK's documents to become a professional basher, yet you don't take that time to learn a skill in order to be successful.

  • Here, you're trying to place the blame on the recruit, who was bombarded with heavily-skewed information in the recruiting interview and more than likely told, "You now have all the information you need to make an educated decision for MK!" when you know that is a false statement.

Friend, commenting on the words of your own leaders doesn't make me a basher. I'm just telling you what they're teaching.

  • Sportica, I am sorry that you were misled by leaders who were not upfront and honest with you. They do not represent the entire Mary Kay.

  • Quota? Sales position? But Demetria, nearly every MK fact sheet (meant to be given to prospects) that I have seen has said 1. That there ARE no quotas in Mary Kay and 2. "We are not looking for sales people!"

Either the directors and NSDs who quote these things in those documents are wrong, or you are, in which case, it might be a wise move to "please educate yourself."

  • There are no quotas in Mary Kay on the Independent Beauty Consultant level. The quotas begin when you reach certain levels in the company. Each of us received a starter kit upon signing. In that starter kit, Sportica, is a consultant guide which tells the consultant EXACTLY what is expected at each level. It is possible to stay at the Beauty Consultant Level and never recruit and still make money. No one is REQUIRED to move up. It's a choice. Once again, please educate yourself.

  • Sportica has replied to your comment on Battle Of Mary Kay: It didn't work for me because I've never been in Mary Kay, Demetria. After I called out a director friend (and fellow churchgoer) on her half-truths in her recruiting interview with me, I started giving what your leaders teach a VERY close look. You should as well.

Sportica, sounds like your friend deceived you, not the company. Sorry you were misinformed. Everyone in MK is not out to manipulate and cheat.

  • I will admit that it would be poor logic to state, "EVERYONE in MK manipulates and cheats." And I'll also admit that if an IBC sticks to selling only, I feel she encounters considerably less "cross-the-line" tactics like emotional manipulation, husband bashing, and the twisting of religion. It is my belief that the manipulative behaviors cannot help but show themselves when recruiting is involved.

  • Are MKers maliciously meaning to be manipulative? I say no. But they're being TAUGHT to manipulate by their leaders because that's what it takes to recruit and move up.

For example, we know that carrying inventory is optional. However, NSD Pam Shaw is teaching her recruiters that "I know you can guide a person to a 3600 decision, but I am here for you as a support mentor!" If Shaw's followers are being told to "guide" new prospects into such high orders, whose needs are REALLY being met?

  • Ya know, if they are tired of busting their butt for someone else's cadillac, then they should bust their butt for their OWN CADILLAC!

  • I am really sorry that you feel like that about this incredible lady and opportunity. I have NEVER felt pressured, coerced, or lied to in the almost 10 years that I have been using these products. Oh and just FYI, Mary Kay has the best selling skin care and color cosmetics in the country for the 15th year in a row. I'm sorry your consultant didn't work with you to find the products that were best for you. I am glad that you have found a product line that is working for you

  • Mary Kay's best customers are the consultants. Pink Truth dot com

  • Pink Truth dot com seems to me just like a bunch of women just want to bitch. You will get that stuff from any company.

  • Is MK counting their sales to consultants to proove this point? Or actual sales to the end customer? There is a difference.

  • The mistake a lot of consultant make is thinking that MK is responsible for their personal sales. Just as a business owner purchase their goods from a supplier, the consultants purchase their products from MK. If the business owner does not sell his goods, he can not place blame with the supplier. Same thing with consultants. We are responsible for selling our own products, not MK. If our products is not selling, perhaps we should take a good look at ourselves and begin with personal development

  • The "personal development" line is pitifully weak. It's a hardcore fact that MK recruiters are taught to tell prospects that "they're not looking for sales people." So MKers are recruiting women who have NO sales experience or knowledge and loading them up with inventory that they - surprise, surprise - don't know how to sell.

And you wonder why Craigslist is chock-full of entries pleading, "MK makeup 4 sale - 60% off - I just want the stuff out of my house!"

  • Personal develop is very powerful in any person's life and is by no means weak. Purchasing inventory is a personal choice not a requirement. Who opens a store without inventory? Better yet, who opens a store with inventory and refuse to learn the skills requred to sell. No experience is necessary to become a MK consultant, HOWEVER, as in any field, you must be coachable. Our attitudes and thinking patterns form the very reality in our life.

  • I like the MK doublespeak, Demetria - you first say that purchasing inventory is a personal choice, and then you add, "Who opens a store without inventory?" You don't move one inch towards that caddy without "qualified recruits," so it's clear that you NEED new recruits to come in with at least $600, and if you can hook them with more, that's all the less production you have to worry about.

  • If you want to caddy then work for it and shut up with the complaining and bickering. If you don't like MK, then move on to something that you enjoy doing and do it. If you opened a beauty shop today, you will have to purchase beauty supples from a supplier if you are expecting to have any chance of success. Would you blame that supplier if you don't sell your products? If they didn't sell, ask yourself why or how can you improve, don't blame the supplier, they did their job!

  • "Would you blame that supplier if you don't sell your products?" ... Wrong example. If I opened a beauty supply store, I could easily find out how many were in my area.

I would not be under pressure to recruit my customers to get promoted. I could advertise as I wished. I would certainly be getting more than a paltry 50% gross margin.

  • If I wanted a caddy, I'd buy it outright instead of having to worry about meeting a lousy production quota every quarter to keep something I supposedly "won." And don't forget about the often-hefty co-pay the "winners" have to pay if their production falls short!

  • Sportica, I agree with you about the caddy and I am not trying to get the caddy nor achieve national sales director level. If I do end up qualifying for it, I would take the cash option and buy my own car. That way, I won't have to worry about losing it later due to production level falling short.

  • That's a very wise move and something I would have done if put in the same position - good job, woman!

  • Is that your education? Thats why your ID is this name? I'm a consultant, and doing very well and its sad that people like you cannot recognize what Mary Kay's intentions where for women. I would have not gone into this business if I had to be the pushy sales type. Shows how much you know. You probably work for Bare Escentuals.

  • Worth nothing: the strange behavior of how those in Mary Kay look down on anyone that dares to call the MK culture out on its deplorable practices and teachings. Anyone that's not in Mary Kay "can't find success" and are "destroying themselves."

Spare us the fake self-righteous pity, love; how do you know I am not successful in what I do for a living?

When one uses Mary Kay as a measuring stick for "success," one may realize that said stick will NEVER be long enough.

  • You don't have a be in MK to be successful. There are trillion of opportunities out there. I have never looked down on anyone who chose not to do MK because it's not for everybody. If you were truly successful in what you do for a living, you would not spend so much time complaining about something that for whatever reason did not work out for you. You would be too busy enjoying your success. It didn't work for you. Let it go already and be happy with what do work for you.
