Laptop Thieves Beware! Select All New Core 2010® consumer laptops and enabled with Intel® Anti-Theft Technology are so smart they can automatically disable themselves if they are lost or stolen. Service available from partner Absolute Softwares Lojack for Laptops to show how a lost laptop can be locked down as well as display a custom recovery message on the locked screen to facilitate return by a Good Samaritan.
Notebook thieves work with local people around you. I found some notebook thief worked with a local janitor who pointed where the office was empty and opened. When my office mate went out some thief came into the office, he was shocked by my present and said he was lost in the building. My office door never looks like an exit or any emergency door. When he came out, he said what was happening in the office to local janitor who was saying "Then try next time."
I think how it works is the girl reports the notebook stolen online and then the manufacturer or retailer can disable the notebook once the notebook goes online.
If the thief never goes online with the notebook, then it won't get disabled.
Thats not true. This technology is in the hardware--with the proper hardware timer setting it can disable itself even if the thief never gets the notebook on the network
just stay offline.
