you know, kids react in very diferent ways. I remeber when I was a child, one of my classmates lost his father, and he didn't really show much emotion in public, except for one time when he said he was mad at him for living them, and you could tell how much that hurted him... I think Prince's reaction is very normal, he was probably still shocked and maybe a little out of it, imagine such private kids in such HUGE memorial for THEIR dad... none of us will never know the feeling

And also - during the memorial, I myself, went through 20 + kleenex, crying off and on from beginning to end. By the end of it I felt emotionally spent, and took a 3 hour nap. lol Seriously.

So honestly, the kids being able to hold it in (for the most part) during the memorial, seemed logical to me after that. I imagine they were "all cried out."

All three of them probably had already done most of their "ugly crying" at home behind closed doors. :-(

I feel like Prince had to hold it down for his siblings, and didn't want to cry in public...it is known for some kids not to cry during their parents funeral, but to cry after. I think him chewing gum was keeping him from crying, keeping his mind off the fact that his father is dead and his casket is right in front of him

& psycho-socially, it's a big deal for boys that age "not to cry"...they're at that vulnerable stage where they don't want to seem like children or "babies," so sometimes they end up acting the opposite (called "reaction formation")...but the feelings are buried within...some males never get over this stage (i.e. they never feel comfortable with showing their emotions sometimes they disassociate from them all together). Therapy for the kids would be very important at this time...wish em the best

There's also the religious issue, if they are in kathrine's custody ...which sometimes touches upon cultural differences, so one has to be careful, but spiritual-religious platitudes (especially JW) at a time of trauma are usually not very helpful (there are some okay pastoral counselors though)...it's not hard to see why michael had a few "issues"...

I know. Every time I see old interviews with him talking about his childhood I feel sad for him. He always mentioned how he cried (for a lot of different reasons) often. Gosh, what is with having a go about the kids? So Prince was chewing gum, if you watch Michael in a lot of footage so is he...maybe it was a way to pay homeage to his dad or at least a habbit he picked up.

I wish that there could've been such an out pouring of love for Michael before he was gone. It seems ironic that he strived his whole life to fit in and be loved and appriciated by the world and it's only in death that he can achieve such a thing. Hopefully he's watching!

Whatever but I think the Kids did great jobs in the memorial, especially Paris, they definitely broke down after their father's sudden death but they tried to control their emotions and consoled one another. About Prince, I also saw him chewing gums, but that's not the point, look into his eyes and u'll see how great the loss and the sorrow he was suffering. He was trying to control himself with the gums, that's all.
