This must be what Lance Henriksen calls one of his "alimony movies." Haha!! Peter Weller wanted to direct a sequel himself back in the late-90s. They should have let him do it then. Instead, they wait over a decade to make a crappy one, by which point general audiences have already (sadly) forgotten about the original.

at the start they say the guy from the first movie blew up his shuttle because the teddy bear was a screamer, but why didn't the teddy screamer just kill him and land the shuttle? don't tell a super advanced machine can't operate a space shuttle! in fact they mentioned the shuttle was automated didn't they? so the screamer could've killed him and let the shuttle land on earth... This might be nitpicking but it could've been interesting if they tried to adapt the short story Jon's world that actually follows Second Variety since Screamers already was a very good adaptation of that short. To make a sequel that was only based upon the first Screamers movie is not really adapting the Second Variety short again so referencing PKD seems even less important even considering how the original film had some differences from the source material, like calling the machines Screamers

I saw this movie, it don't have anywhere near the depth the first one had. The first screamers had alot of depth to it in the story, the war, the reason screamers were created, the evolution of a weapon, even the reason the screamers screamed was logical, not to scare it's victims, but to disrupt them to make it harder to shoot them, however as they evolved they used the screaming feature to terrorize its victims. Screamers 2 is just a "FAIL" sequel and they should of left the movie alone!

Peter Weller was the star back then, and just like Robocop, is now a classic.

I just had to login and post this, I'm watching Screamers 1 right now and it's just amazing, everything about the first one is fantastic. The story, the actors, this movie was totally great and stands out as one of the most imaginative sci-fi films of all time IMO. Sadly this sequel is much like that of Starship Troopers 2, basically it just stinks. I wouldn't expect much from a movie that tries imitating Tremors, they could've done so much else but they end up going back to the same planet!
