The background vocals of this belong to the Rayber Voices. The Supremes didn't join until 1961. Raynoma Liles Gordy (Berry's second wife) is the woman that is probably the one that "sounds like Florence".
marv is the don, but i reckon the bass vocalist steals the show here i reckon lol cantg help but sing bom bom-bom-bom-bom bom-bom-bom-bom-bom- bom lol fantastic song.
I like it, always have, it's okey and I haven't heard it since back when. Hearing it again today serves as a reminder all those song that I like that I can't do without. There is just so much better stuff to play that I don't care to hear all the rock& roll songs that I justt like, believe me. Back in the day uity was just doowop & Skip & Flip, so I had time for Marv, LaVerne & Clyde. THX
I'm writing an essay about the history of Motown for my pophistory class. This is the first song that was released on the Tamla label that later became the Motown label. So this is an important song! So cool to be able to listen to it here.
@IlonaTreuren what is pophistory class?if you get a compilation of the rock/pop history i'd like to see a final product.i'm invested in the music over the last 50 years.actually i'd just like to hear about the class.
@nomiclas I'm a student at a popmusic academy in The Netherlands. I have articles about pop history from our teacher, journalist Bert van de Kamp, and I wrote an essay about Motown, but it's all in Dutch :).
and I could still swear it's the primettes in the background 1.33 sounds really like florence ballard and on the "miss you baby" parts it sounds really like diane ross early voice
but it was recorded in 59 and one year before the supremes signed on motown ...
maybe this was at the time they pissed off berry and where sitting on the stairs in front of the building to get called for some handclaps or backing vocals :D
At first i thought it was Jackie Wilson til i know it was Marv Johnson singing Come to Me
