  • from the 60s to the 2000s dave still jams this.... he hated playin syds stuff too

  • Best!

  • Syd was not concerned with sounding musical he was shooting for other shores - just listen to the "tonight we make love in london" three video YouTube - it shows he was more interested in event and intensity than being some hot-shot musician, sounds more than recognizable music - similar attitude to Ornette Coleman form the late 70s whereas Gilmour = just another good guitarist playing licks over chord changes

  • He's a fine guitarist.

But there is something with Syd's playing that can not be covered by technically proficient guitarists, they are too concerned with 'music' to get the out of control tenuous and tenebrous tones and energy of his sound

  • Nice shot of Dave's picks at 00:05, I think he plays the pear shaped ones most of the time.

  • not great

  • Time is evil.

  • Age of Syd

  • I think Syd would of liked this version.

  • Mammamiaaaa...i come....

  • Not psychedelic enough. Give me some Syd!

  • rastura covjek

  • Despite that i like alot Gilmour's usual sound and way of playing, and also like alot the sound of Telecaster , i find this sound very thin and weak. I wonder is it from the mixing guy or the fact that David seems to have the Tele on the bridge pickup...for some reason i feel a Tele sound is best with its neck pickup (full and juicy in the same time while keeping the primitive tin ring to it...)...wonder if anyone notices these

  • I don't give a shit if David doesn't do Yngwie Malemensteen shit. It's his fucking TONE that matters, shit. Musicians will know what I mean.

  • Iy will be perfect to watch david, roger, nick, richard and syd playing this song!!!!!

    Pink Floyd Forever!!!!1

  • Simply Horgasmic 8===D- - - - --

  • on dirait pas...mais le batteur est super bon..même s il a mis du temps à comprendre..

  • Dave played his guitar note for note and not forgetting syd into the bargain. Definately one of rocks gentlemen, and he could play guitar a little also lol

  • anyone notice he's playing a telecaster the same type of guitar sid played.............DG still give hime props nice!!!!!!!

  • DUUUDE GILMOUR PLAYING SYD BARRETT -> WONDERFUL

  • Wow!!!!!!

  • Best version of this song I've ever heard. Brilliant rendition by Gilmour. Does require numerous listens however, to really hear all of the subtle complexities of this piece and become more familiar with it's interesting structure. Once again, great piece!

  • that neck is gonna make my cry

  • telecaster... fuck yeah!!!

  • The original version by Ted Nugent I yhink is better.

  • With all due respect to Syd Barrett, I like David Gilmour's version of this guitar solo much better.

  • @PopExpo why dont you shut the fuck up and let other people enjoy true beutiful music wish you could even play like this fucker

  • @PopExpo go on you tell `em, then you can tell us how good New Kids On The Block sound on your hifi

  • @PopExpo tell me that in another 20 years

  • can I find the whole video from this abbey road concert?

  • Amazing good piece of music, remind me at the great ummagumma times.

  • @miamad ... what can i say but well done for making yourself look a complete ...cunt...yes, seriously it's a good British word we keep reserved for those special moments where people who make stupid comments whilst slipping their fingers down their pants in time with looking through the lingerie section of clothing catalogues.....people like yourself I suppose. So wear the badge of honour with pride I am sure many people on this page will support your most recent achievement.

  • Syd's playing homage to Syd's style here. Much of Syd's finest live guitar work was never recorded.

  • David gilmour simply doesn't fail

  • der alte Mann hats drauf

  • EPIC!

  • Syd wrote a monster and David knew how to feed it. Intense!

  • shut up.

  • Make me, faggot.

  • lol

  • What are you laughing about? The joke's in your hand.

  • ...

  • superlativo!!!!

  • Even if David had a relatively blah lick-session, it'd still be gold. He can do no wrong on the guitar.

  • woo sounds like some early floyd material..

    cool space rock!

  • IT is early floyd material.

  • SPLENDIDE, Génial, Virtuosissime.!!

    Waouhhhhh Gilmour the best..!!

    °IIIIII°

  • This guys are amazing.... God what kind of music ... it's perfect!!!!

  • What happened?You realised I was right????

  • what?:O

  • In high school David had taught Syd how to play guitar

  • @KarmicOmen Syd was playing guitar before he met Dave. Dave taught him some licks. He didn't outright teach him how to play.

  • @Adominae

True and you are correct. I should have further clarified my statement.

  • inpresionante

  • Thats 4 sure Rory Gallagher aint half as good.

  • i think both of them are great players and you shouldn't compare them because they are different

... though if you really wanna play that game - on a technical level there is no way in heck that David could keep up

    but they are different

Rory was always bending at the nut and using pinch harmonics and volume swells and all that

and david has some of the best most expressive bends ever

  • awesome ¡¡¡¡¡

  • Who's the kid on the drums? Where is Nick Mason ?

  • Steve DiStanislao, he'd played with 'Crosby, Stills & Nash' where Gilmour noticed him. And took along for the whole 'On and Island' tour.

Nick appears in the documentary from the DVD, and has played "Wish You Were Here" and "Comfortably Numb" for an encore at the Royal Albert Hall. Unfortunately, those aren't included... Nick's decision, supposedly...

  • @flojdtube Thank you Wikipedia.

  • @gaofule u can unofficially call them 'Half Floyd' as two prominent writers continued to perform Pink Floyd music, and write in such style, until the sad departure of Wright in 2008. the Pink Floyd franchise may have been abandoned, and perhaps they symbolically could've called themselves Floyd, but i'll always see Floyd as a rather long-lasting band being that artistically they lived over a decade after dropping Mason. truly amazing artists

  • for some reason this vid wont play for me

  • Have you tried switching to normal quality, and refreshing? The HQ versions sometimes won't work for me...

  • Just now realized how epic and majestic this solo is.

After all these listens... who knew.

  • just perfect

  • Fuckin' great!
