"Japan’s tsunami seems to have succeeded, where years of boycotts and protests & high-seas chases by Western environmentalists had failed, in knocking out a pillar of the nation’s whaling industry. Ayukawahama was one of only four communities in Japan that defiantly carried on whaling and eating whales as a part of the 'local culture', even as the rest of the nation loses interest in whale meat." japanprobe. com/2011/03/25/whaling-town-destroyed-by-tsunami/
A coastal whaling base in Miyagi Prefecture of Japan has been destroyed by the powerful tsunami triggered by 3/11/11's massive earthquake, which washed away their whale-processing facility. In Ishinomaki of Ayukawa on southern Oshika, the tsunami of 10 meters high traveled 600 meters inland. They prospered as a whaling base since opening there in 1906. Two of their vessels were scheduled to participate in Japan's research whaling in April. search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/nn20110318a7.html
"While Japan claims the hunt is purely for research purposes, they return to port with hundreds of tons of whale meat PACKAGED and ready for the country's commercial markets. This vividly shows Japan's determination to maintain a commercial whaling industry under the guise of science in an internationally protected sanctuary. (Antarctica, established through the efforts of U.S. Vice-President Gore). We can not allow them to continue to flout such international agreements." stopwhalingnow. com
Another example: Just a mere 100 years ago, the Great Plains Bison of North America numbered at least 60 million. Then humans started their typical overhunting when they found something they found to be of value. Now today they number less than 1000. Think about THAT! See the damage mankind can do? Today, whales are even more valuable moneywise. Plus, they breed even more slowly. To top that, the pollution in nature caused by industry is SO much worse
i was watching a show where American scientists wanted to do research on whales... so they used a dart gun that took a skin sample the size of a pencil eraser, and from that they knew everything about the whales' weight, age, health, diet, sex, growth rate, and most importantly, mercury levels! So if the japs need to kill 900 every year just to learn of ONE item (diet) then how skillful are their scientists? Paul and the Shepherds are real life Heroes! Remember: "Compassion is not terrorism"!
Problem... Man doesn't learn from history. Climate changes combined with man's overhunting is what made the mammoth extinct. Large animals just don't populate quickly enough to compensate. The whales are facing the same situation, but with an added bane... our world's oceans are being polluted. Mercury is becoming a big issue. So all this added up almost guarantees extinction of the whales!
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me. We pillage we plunder, we rifle and loot. Drink up me hearties, yo ho. We kidnap and we ravage and don't give a hoot. Drink up me hearties, yo ho. Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me. We extort and we pilfer, we filch and sack. Drink up me hearties, yo ho. Maraud and embezzle and even highjack. Drink up me hearties, yo ho. Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
just simply say..save the whale!it is goin to be extinct!
not bec they are intelligent or cute or the biggest!
and you may want to research the history of japans whaling..that way you may be able to understand the reason why they wanna conserve whale and their culture. Believe it or not ..it is not for food or money!
@yonaoimete Whales are proven to be endangered. They're struggling to survive. Cutting their numbers is not helping. There are other sources of food for people to go after. If the whale goes extinct it'll hurt the entire world's foodchain. So WE will be one step closer to extinction. Besides, whales are the second most intelligent animal in the history of the world. They're special and important. Deer and kangaroos are nowhere near endangerment. Pigs and cows are even systematically REPLENISHED
All three are excellent videos. Very well done. Paul Watson should be admired for his efforts. Truly great work is often maligned by the vile workings of more simple minds. Long live Ventura and long live Paul Watson and the whales.
Paul Watson is dedicated to saving whales and all other exploited and endangered marine life. He's been arrested, assaulted and is constantly threatened by those who benefit from destroying these beautiful creatures. I'm sure your opinion means as much to him as mine. He does not do this for admiration or adulation, he does it for the wildlife.

I've sent this video to Captain Paul Watson's myspace (not sure if it's the real Paul Watson) but I do hope that my 3 Whale War videos will make their way to Sea Shepherd's website :)
Thanks for watching! Please use the embed code or URL to spread the word about this illegal killing on myspace, facebook, twitter, ect....(if you use any) if we get the word out to enough people then maybe we could put an end to this case of eco-terrorism by Japan.

Look at the motivation behind each party's activities. That's where the full stories and explanations can be found.
A) Why do the Japanese whalers do what they do?
B) Why do the Sea Shepherds do what they do?
Answer these two questions unto yourself. Be truthful

In Australia they kill many pigs, cows, sheep, kangaroos, deers and other mammals everyday.
These mammals are intelligent.
But Australians say "It's OK to kill them because they are foods".
This is Australian double-standard.

pigs, cows, and sheep are raised in farms FOR FOOD but whales are illegal to hunt for food by the IWC.
whaling was banned by the IWC in 1986...

@yonaoimete kangaroos are marsupials... not mammals
