great cd's yes :) hope you'll enjoy every piece of it. Stridepiano is something else too, it has to be jumpy but swinging at the same time too. Its hard to learn but if you can handle the pressure its all about fun !! :)
Yeah I knew the start chord was F, I don't know it just looked to me from the left hand that it was Bb. F of course makes sense too. I having trouble getting the rythm of the right hand down, as well as a few of the notes. Maybe you should do a lesson video :P
andrew, thanks :) yes stride is also one of my things Im trying to learn. Its hard but after long practising its fun to play. The only note and timing that was difficult for me is at 00:16, that one is really fast played hehe..
do you have a special recommandation how to practise esp. stride piano playing the most effecient way? I never really tried it. Any hint would be appreciated, Eeco. Thank you for answering.
Go slow at first, practice diferent rythms in all the keys. Gradually go fast. Start to play some rythms in the right hand and speed up. Eventually you'll be able to play it effortlessly.
All I can say is practice lol. I havn't really tried stride as such myself, mainly just ragtime, but the vamping bass is very similar, I tend to let it come as naturally as possible, similarly to Boogie where the left hand should be natural and second nature to the melody. Hope that helps! A good stretch can help also!
this is not the answer I was looking for - nevertheless: thanks for your effort. My question is: which method can be recommended to learn stride? when I know this I can start practicing. if you have an idea on that, this would be appreciated. thanks, Hans
I'm an ear player and never have been tought really formally (I do have taken few lessons as of late but me and my teacher both play by ear so ) so I can;t give you any advice on that really.
Wow!

Man, you're right there. The gritty, poignant, lovely sound of old Deep South piano blues. You've got it. Authentic.

No, only a very good piano player... and you are! So, I thought, maybe... know Garnett's music?

You're a boogie master, man!
I just would like you could do some zoom-in (or put the camera at the very top in 90 degrees' view) for me to be able to learnin' something. :-)=
By the way, I've just bought 2 new Little Brother's CDs: "1930-1936" (Document) and "No Special Rider" (Adelphi). Won-der-ful stuff!

Very good, nice mixing of a boogie and stride, sounds really great. Awesome, can't wait to see more.

Your stride /ragtim basses by the way has greatly improved from older videos! There is a very nice definition on the bass notes. Good work.
